I think the wrong way to look at this game is "FPS with skill trees". The right way would be "EvE Online: The FPS".

If you die in EvE you lose your ship, the guns you had on it, all the shiny modules and whatever you were hauling. If you die in Dust, same applies. You lose your sh*t. The big showpiece here isn't the skills or the top tier gear. It is New Eden. And once Dust is finally plugged into that universe it's gonna get cuh'ray'zay.

Corps transporting their mercs across galaxy. Docking into a player owned station. Fighting on board the station and taking controll of it. Fighting inside a titan. Not just some random map but someone else's spaceship.

The link between EvE and Dust is going to be amazing.

Exactly, everything you do in this game matters, not so much in the game's current state but there are battles being fought already that do directly influence EvE.

Even if you don't care about joining a corporation and accepting contracts to capture or defend planets, and what not, once we see the integration of DUST's economy into the one of EvE's, then yes, everything you do will have an impact, every weapon, every piece of gear you buy, has been previously manufactured by an EvE pilot (with resources that may have been extracted from the planets you have defend ed or captured, or obtained them yourself and sold it.).

That's what's awesome about this game, you're not fighting in alternating teams of Americans and Russians in the middle of Times Square for whatever reason, you're fighting in a virtual, persistent war, with a living economy, politics, everything man. That's what's awesome about DUST.

Here's an interview with the developers, a lot of interesting stuff discussed:

Here's the transcript:

QUOTE
Cast514 #9 details

Orbital Bombardments
Potentially give eve players killmails for the stuff they kill
Maybe allow people outside of FW to participate in the OBs
Improving in-game tools for finding requests for OB support ahead of time.
Larger varieties planned (with more risk for the eve pilots required. i.e. bigger hull required).
New OB ideas: missiles that can lock onto larger vehicles
AOE weapons that change the map dynamic
Leading to Dreadnought nuke-from-orbit strikes, but requires larger game modes to make sense.
New ways to earn OBs aside from WPs, possibly (but needs to be unexploitable).
Deploy beacons that need to charge up before the larger strikes can be made. Be able to move this target/bomb.
Eve players in the skybox (just tags, not models/shadows). Coming with the next MAJOR update. Intention is to let both teams know about impendending strikes.
Internal discussions about orbital installations that can provide a benefit without an eve player needing to be there. Related to 'TEST Ion Cannon'? Probably more related to nullsec warfare as this is for when war is being ramped up.

Faction Warfare
Not yet finished.
Lack of locational awareness for Dust players with their battles; unable to steer ware effort. Solutions being designed. Revamped Starmap coming.
Making the battles more fair and accessible. Experimenting with changes coming.
Shift away from consentual battle for an isk wager to a something a bit more like a war between all the factions.
Eve players to be able to direct where the war effort should be focused.
Looking at offering SP outside of Instant Battles! So you can play the hardcore modes fulltime.
The design will remain that mercs do not 'sign up' for a faction. But instead they will design rewards that incentivise you to stick with a particular militia and reap the rewards.
Unique faction loot possible.

Planetary Conquest
Corp owned Districts being implemented right now (lowsec only).
Benefits to both dust and merc players.
'Planetary Soveriegnty'.
The wealth you wil gain from districts is not yet decided yet. Will be iterated (isk, resources, etc).
You'll want dust AND eve players to keep control.

Orbital Artillery
Probably coming AFTER planetary conquest, once there is a reason for eve players to hang out above districts.
Need to work out how to inform eve player that he is being targetted!
Probably a bit like POS guns.

Nullsec and WH space
They are thinking about the features for here. The steps they do now are about ironing our the kinks and making stepping stones before they affect nullsec SOV space.
Will still be optional with regards to achieving sov.
Extend to more mechanics that just sov capture/defense. How about infrastructure that will defend assessts in space. Industry on planets. Bonuses to in-space activities (scanning, ratting etc). Lots of options and possibilities. Always listening to player ideas.

Skill Points
Looking at a weekly cap with a rollover (details not actually explained).
Will still listen to alternatives if you have them and people have issues.
They don't want to incentivise people creating a 1000 chars right now, if the cap is related to birthdate of the char.

Training Mode
Not any time soon as it will take a while to do right and they want to develop other aspects of the game first

MCc
Once we're in nullsec and having larger battles then the MCCs will be player controllable.

War Barge
Will be involved with District Conquest.
Intended as a corp assest.
In first rollout of district conquest these will be NPC controlled. Later on, will give control to players (probably nullsec)

Secondary market
Dust secondary market in development.
Once eve and dust players can trade isk, they'll all them to trade items too.
Dust in-game trade window probably coming first (inb4 trade window scams).

Corp Hangers
Ability for corps to own assets and allows dust players to deploy/refit from there.

Corp Management
Roles going to be implemented properly.
They are working on a design that does no repeat eve's mistakes.

CREST
This is what allows Dust to work.
No real details available right now.

Manufacturing/Industry
No info available right now. But the long term goal is that players will create the suits/mods/etc.

Next MAJOR release
Robustness
Accessibility
Context of battles improved (revamped starmap)
Iterations to FW
Planetary Conquest v1
Fixes to spawnpoint problems
New dropsuits (factions variants)
New weapons (faction variants)

Fully-customisable controls
No work has started on this yet, focussing on other problematic UI aspects right now.
Intend to start on it SoonTM.

Rouge Drones
Playable internally right not, but it's not a main focus.
More info coming at fanfest about the roadmap.
Intend to not make it an instanced 'horde mode' game, but actual districts being overrun.

Dropsuits
Big change to system in the next release/expansion.
New roles.
Skill and suit progression is changing drastically.
Much more closer to eve ship roles (unlock suits and then racial variants).
Crusader. Pilot. Covert Ops.

Playercounts
48 players. 24 vehicles.
Eventually plan to expanded further and further.

Battlefield Commander Role
A layer of the game that will be developed later on, once the pre-requisite layers of the game have been developed.
But will fly/move the MCC. Will drop installation and apply objectives.

New Weapons
Big set of nova knives
Many more racial variants of weapons.

Graphics
Still being upgraded. Big stuff for next release, especially for the map textures.
News shaders for guns, suits, environments.
Improved loading time

New planerary types
High level plans for lava, gas, ocean planets.
Internal cloud city demo created.
Not anytime soon, at all.

Map layouts
Maps are sewn together from 'recipes' with socket types
Sockets can contain different infrastructure.
Each district will contain it's own unique 'recipe', so returning to the same district it should look the same each time.
Environment shaders, terrain types, etc give more variation across planets/districts.

You're asking for new game modes when you've played a grand total of 10 matches so far confused.gif

I heard CoD has like 20 generic game modes, maybe you'd enjoy that.

There will be new modes down the line, but for now, they are still testing Skirmish. A game mode where loosing will cost you millions of ISK (blowing up the MCC) isn't something to just slap into the game like that.

It is "out", you can download it on the ps store. They just haven't reached the level of content they plan on in order to remove the Beta tag.

It's not going to release on disc. The game is essentially out already, except they have the beta tag on because they will be adding new content over time and there won't be a "finished" version for a long time.

Why am I complaining about it not being out?
That just means that the beta will stay for a longer time!

Also, there's a new update. Update 5.0. f*ck the update, it keeps restarting. angry.gif
Oh wait, it's supposed to do that, it goes back to 0 but the file decreases.

EDIT: When the full game comes out, will it be free?

I hate the new Uprising update. No more Militia Logistics, now you're stuck with a sh*tty basic dropsuit and the only useful thing you can do is repair other people, because you'll lose every gunfight. Now to unlock a better dropsuit, you'd have to play 24/7 just to get enough skill points. Newbie unfriendly.

Being useful in the MAG Trial was so much easier. I spent 400 hours on it before getting the full game.

I agree, it's hard for newcomers. Fortunately, they are integrating a server for people below X amount of skill points, so you shouldn't have to deal with prototype gear mercs for a while. This feature will come next Tuesday.
