Does anyone know if this is real-time open world combat, or is it just some birds'-eye view turn-based crap?

Real time open world combat.
The developers have never made a birds eye view game.
The release date is still estimated 2015.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a "true RPG," definitely not a multiplayer shooter

Sorry for double post/bump.

Some (non) news on Cyberpunk 2077:

Don’t expect any news soon, though; Iwinski said that CD Projekt wants to keep quiet on Cyberpunk until it can announce a release date, as Bethesda did with Fallout 4.

That’ll probably sometime in 2017, according to an earlier interview on IGN; 2015 and 2016 are “years of The Witcher”.

That's so far away but I'm glad they ruled out 2016 and we aren't just optimistically guessing.  Besides, we have Fallout, Deus Ex and a heap of other games to play until then. I'm thinking Cyberpunk will one of the highlights of current-gen. An open-world future sci-fi is very welcomed. We know how good the worlds they make are from The Witcher series.

Back in pen and paper, I always hated Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun was corny, but was such a more interesting world, awful mechanics though.

So is this somehow got a tie in with the old game? I mean, the date's been moved forward 57 years (47 if you go by later edition rules), and it's got the same font as the old game?

I'm curious. I'm into the idea, and wary of the execution. Still, with no release date other than, "someday" I'm not getting my hopes up... There's 16 months between now and 2017, and there's alot that can happen between then and now to make me lose interest.

2077 could be the release date. Keeping true to the game. Huehuehue.

Don't expect Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 - or any time soon
link

It might happen that we will be at E3 and we will show something at E3, but I just want to make it clear it's not Cyberpunk. We still have a lot of work to do with Cyberpunk. I cannot talk about plans but we have to adjust to it and also adjust our own ambitions. Assuming that we could have something out this year, if it will not be better than Witcher 3, people [will say], 'Hmm, wow, why is it not better?' Witcher 3 set a certain bar and we definitely cannot go lower. It's always about improving and making new, pretty stuff, [and] storytelling games and mechanics and what not. This is a tricky part here because we shouldn't really talk about Cyberpunk, but I'll give you one reason why. Every single time I say something like this, like 'yes we can invest...' - which is true, essentially - it makes big news. And I think this big news is sort of becoming, first of all, repetitive, and second, maybe a bit too bloated. We are not spinning it into big news, and we really want to expose anything to be perceived like a big ego. Right now it's the end of talking about Cyberpunk until we can go out there and show stuff and say, 'Hey, here it is,' because that's how we do games. There is too much talking about what it possibly could be, and how big, and... When we show it, we should show it and explain it. So I'm going to have people not read anything about Cyberpunk probably for the next... time, said Iwinski, choosing his words carefully, "whatever the time will be."

I'm excited to see what they show off this year at E3. I'll probably buy the game because I love CDPR.

Cyberpunk 2077 development in full swing, possibly feature "planes, bikes and robots" that you can pilot.
Development for the next big RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, is well underway, according to a post from developers CD Projekt RED.
Spotted and translated by NeoGAF, one poster asked the developers how many people were working on Cyberpunk 2077.
"In your recent presentation you have mentioned that there are over 100 people working on Gwent," said the poster. "I understand that the remaining employees work on CP2077 (minus tech support for TW3)."
A reply from the studio said: "There are currently more game developers working on Cyberpunk 2077 than on The Witcher 3 in its most intensive month."

That's good news. CDPR are quite honest with setting expectations with customers. My only gripe is that I think they announced it's development too soon. When it was announced they still hadn't or just had released The Witcher 3 and they said they wouldn't talk about CP77 while they were still promoting The Witcher 3 + DLC dev and release time - then why announce it? lol Maybe it was something to do with shares or to garner interest in the company from investors while on a high of wave of success of TW3.

It's one of the games I'm really looking forward to. I'm hoping it can be as good as Fallout.

The fact that they announced Cyberpunk in 2012 is screwy as hell, remember The Witcher 3 wasn't announced until February 2013.

Like they knew in 2012 that it wasn't gonna be ready for at least 5 years because The Witcher 3 was likely in mid-development cycle.

Can we expect the combat system to be similar to The Witcher 3's combat system?

Sometimes it's better to release a sequel (The Witcher 4) even if it's not gonna be so good, still better than this.

Well since it's the future, you'd expect a lot of guns and sh*t where as Witcher is obviously very melee focused, but who knows.

Don't count on it. 2018 seems like the optimistic date, 2019 seems more likely to me.

Is that just a rehash? Not sure, as I haven't really been keeping up... Proper classes/roles? Storyline meaningfully tied to classes? Silent protagonist(s)? Multiplayer more like Dark Souls? 'Braindance'? Gunplay? Vehicles? Potatoes & vodka? ..

Wonder if they'll reduce the scope at some point, or have already...I'd say cut MP regardless, as I'm afraid main development will be too stretched. Yeah, the budget and team are bigger (new people for engine upgrades, vehicles, etc.) and hopefully the OG CDPR people are itching to try new stuff after witchering for so long, as they were limited by that and resources etc. Still, W3 regressed in a few ways and has some other objective problems, as great as I think it is generally, which is why I'm rambling with so little info..

Another thing is the "low-level story", meaning no world/universe saving; I do prefer when they focus elsewhere or subvert, or simply good writing. For the classes, not expecting full non-lethal, but hopefully many multi-solution quests with stealth/hacking/dialogue/etc. anyway. Loads of possibilities with classes relating to the storyline, but again, it may be too much work, so I'm not too hyped.

Edit: Misread something. But yeah, it's a long way off...and as said, that's fine by me.

All right, I'm a little late to the party...what the heck is this game about? Can't find anything on it...apart from the fact it's open world or something like that.

Well it's based on and old game called Cyberpunk 2020. It's developed by the devs behind Witcher 3 and it's gonna be like some open-world RPG.

7 million US dollars granted to CD Projek RED

In recent news, CD Projekt RED's application for a government grant from the Polish GameINN progamme, which aims to research City Creation, Animation Excellence, Cinematic Feel, and Seamless Multiplayer for its video games (that was presumed to be implemented to "Cyberpunk 2077"), was recently granted, VG24/7 reported....

Interesting. I hope this grant doesn't influence the game in a negative way, such as having honour certain stipulations of the grant and veering off the original concepts.

Or even just a sudden focus on multiplayer. f*ck all things multiplayer in an RPG.
