Hello everybody. I am new to this forum and I have problem I need help with.
So , last month my Windows 7 crashed and a friend of mine installed me Windows 8. Now I have problems running EVERY single game.
I tried new ones ,tried old ones (cs 1.6, gta 3 , san andreas ,cod ) and none of them seem to work . I have HP Elitebook 8540w with 4 gb ram and its a great laptop ,this has nothing to do with performance.

All of these games that I tried ,and that worked on Windows 7 , now give similar error :

GTA 3 : user posted image

CS 1.6 (irellevant for this topic ,just trying to show connection ,same error with screen resolution appears in details)

I tried many "solutions" but none of them seem to work. Replacing gta3 set file to my User files removed this error ,but when I try to start the game nothing happens.

I would appreciate some help,

Thank you. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

You could right-click and open the Properties in the .exe located in the main directory, go to the Compatibility tab, and "tick" the "Run in 640x480 video resolution".

Same here with my 8 laptop. Even running in compatibility mode, 3, VC and SA all do not work. What a terrible OS. Good thing my gaming PC has Windows 7.

I suggest OP you go out and buy Windows 7 on disk and install over that crap heap 8. Nothing works right, metro is so cluttered, and the new features are horribly done.

Have you installed or updated your GPU driver?

I personaly have Windows 8 Pro with latest updates and I don't have such problem. I don't even run the application under compatibility mode. So that means that you shouldn'y blame Windows 8. Try updating your video drivers, audio drivers and install the latest DirectX 9 updates.
