Which GTA game was the better prequel for GTAIII?

I always go with GTA Advance. The game is may be the most underrated game in the series, but it has the best prequel story for GTAIII.

Advance is canon obviously, just because it was on game boy, it's not?

There are two reasons why i deem Advance non-canon
(1) It wasn't written by Dan Houser, the "god" of Grand Theft Auto
(2) Events, such as how 8-Ball sustained injury to his hands, are completely changed from the way it is stated in III and its viral media.

What you stated doesn't make any sense. Just because it wasn't written by the same man it doesn't automatically make the game non-canon. Also, how do you explain the fact that you meet many characters already met in GTA 3. As far as I know, it's like this:
2000 - Advance
2001 - GTA 3
Despite what I said, the game may be non-canon, but the possibilities you guys bring up don't make any sense.
Anyhoo, I voted SA. Just started playing again and having a lot of fun with it.

How does it not make any sense? If I were to deem the "Blood and a Four Leaf Clover" concept thread (as amazing as it is) on these forums as canon- I would be labeled an idiot because it wasn't written by Dan Houser or Rockstar. So what makes Advance so different?

Plus, the second point, about contradictory fact, is more so what I was talking about. E.g. In the Liberty Tree article or III, it states that 8-Ball got his injuries from having hot fat poured on his hands during a police raid. Yet in Advance he is injured by a Cartel goon with a flamethrower. There are a few things like this.

just because its not famous as LCS, it doesnt mean it cant be canon. no matter who wrote the story, it has GTA name on it, and its approved by R*. what would you do if the game was sooo popular, everybody was playing it and accepted as canon? could you say the same things you just did? i guess not.

We're talking about a game, not a concept thread for one thing. Second, just because what happened in GTA 3 and doesn't happen in Advance (8-ball's hand injury) doesn't automatically mate the game non-canon.

Another good reason why it could be labeled as canon.

There still needs to explain how Catalina becomes the boss of Colombian Cartel and why she choosed Claude as her boyfriend, which would be explained in GTA San Andreas Stories.

The most explained about GTA III prequel is GTA San Andreas for me. It explains why Claude doesn't speak during the mission called Wear Flowers in Your Hair by CJ's quote "Motherf*cker! That mute asshole!". It also explains how Salvatore Leone meets Maria, who was later married for him.

It says he's mute. So, it explains.

I think that Liberty City Stories is the best prequel for 3, followed by Advance.

R* have already confirmed that he is not mute:

I think GTA: San Andreas is the best prequel to GTA III. I think so even I don't have played GTA Advance, GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City Stories.

GTA: Vice City: It tells Phil's surname, shows his life 15 years ago and how he lost his left hand. It shows Donald Love's life 15 years ago. It also shows Forelli Mafia Family life 15 years ago.

GTA: San Andreas: It tells GTA III protagonist's name, shows his life 9 years ago and how he met Catalina. It shows Catalina's life 9 years ago and her cousin, Cesar Vialpando. It shows how Salvatore Leone met Maria and their life 9 years ago. It shows Leone Mafia Family and Forelli Mafia Family lifes 9 years ago. It also shows Liberty City 9 years ago.

GTA: San Andreas Stories: It would show Claude speaking and maybe some of his family members. And maybe it would show the other GTA III characters' lifes.
