Regarding random encounters, do you think the tasks given to you will actually vary from large combat scenes (large reward) to small things like driving them around (small reward)? I ask because in GTA IV all the tasks were rather small, and in regards to money earned, not really worth it. Also, how many random encounters do you think there will be in the game?

rather than how many and terms of compensation, or lack thereof I'd like to see the random encounters basicallhy be like a karma system, if you're faced with "help the junkie get clean" or "sell the junkie more drugs" it would kind of foster a sense of who you want Trevor, Michael, or Franklin to be in the world, and maybe the way pedestrians react to your presence, sell enough drugs to random encounter peds or do them wrong, you get a bad rep, or a toughguy rep, or a good deed slash sucker/sap rep.

In terms of achievements etc. it'd be sweet. Especially if those things carry over to multiplayer, like if you do all the random peds wrong in the singole player, it unlocks a "Dirty deeds" perk that gives shooting people in the back extra damage, or "guardian angel" perk for doing all good deeds that gives you extra ammo from looted enemies, dorky stuff like that.

Sick idea, but I doubt there will be a karma system in GTA. Would hold back from the blood lust that all of us play the game with wink.gif

I just like the idea of bigger rewards for bigger tasks. Like new phones, cars, etc that you can't buy or find within the world.

I think this is going to be awesome. Just encountering random people that bring you to different side missions, hitchikers, people broken down on the side of the road, etc. Even what IGN said about coming across a drug deal gone bad with bodies everywhere, No Country For Old Men esque.

I think you're talking about dynamic missions. Random encounters are much more scripted, usually more elaborate. Dont think there were enough of them in IV. Really were loads of fun, although if the dynamic missions can also be elaborate and well thought out I'm sure it'll be great.

Ahh you're right. I think they will both be awesome.

I'm excited in how they will incorporate the map in this. People in IV just stood around, in RDR the random 'run up' was ok. I think this time it going to be way more incorporated in the map and effects the story.

Would certainly make it interesting if the random encounters didn't just stand in one spot, but moved around the city. That way all of the 100% completion guys would actually have to find them, instead of just referring to a game guide (which could only help by telling you what he/she looks like). Affecting the story is a good idea in prospect, but what if the player doesn't find the random encounter guy before he actually completes the whole narrative? I say you can string together a loose plot based on the random encounters themselves, just like with the serial killer in IV who you heard about on the radio, NPC chatter, and online, and then actually met him.

Lots of random encounters. Far more than in GTA IV. The encounters will be way more dynamic.

be cool if there were some random characters that could be done by any 3 of the playable characters and they each play out a different way. like the junkie example, Franklin could see the crackhead and recognize them as someone from the old hood, and escort them to rehab. Trevor could see a chance to exand on business and take the junkie to a dealer, jump the deal and make off with the buy money and the product. Michael on the other hand would take the junkie to score and on the way make conversation on how juxtaposed the two really are and encourage the junkie to get clean

I like that Idea Claude4catalina. I think that there should be a certain amount of events, randomly scattered throughout the game in each play through, and all 3 characters could interact with them jus have different consequences. There would be alot of playability in that.

That's a cool idea. Also, depending on your actions you get a different reward. If you help a junkie get clean with Franklin a couple game weeks later he sends you an e-mail with the location of his car which you can now have, or if you just sell him stuff with Trevor he gives the money immediately. Would add so much replay-ability within the game. Also, each character experiences random dynamic events. Like Trevor gets attacked by bikers etc

More dangerous things need to happen in the hood. I think If you are in the hood there should be a strong chance that you will be mugged or a strong chanse that you may be ganged up on and beat up.

Actually I kind of liked the way it was in GTA IV. Maybe a tiny bit more spontaneous and dangerous, but just a tiny bit. In SA when you couldn't go in any hood without getting attacked in the beginning of the game was so annoying

Yes, in SA and III it was absolutely awful. But I am not at all sugesting that. Im talking a 40% or 30% chance that something happens to you in the hood, like a mugging or just a beatdown. Not random indiscriminate gunfire while you drive a car in the ghetto.
