While my first GTA i played was Vice city which I barely remember playing because it wasn't as interesting as it is to me now (mainly because I was a young kid and didn't really understand most things happening) I realized what GTA was all about when I started playing SA and was understanding the story and all that.

I'd say it really isn't the age more so the kid, some kids think differently than others & may gain bad influences from the game while others like myself just played without a problem having no influences at all because we ackowledged it's just a game and sh*t like that in the real world is messed up.

I think parents should decide. Once they recognise their son's/daughter's maturity and understanding and that they won't be inspired to cause massacres and crimes then they should allow them to play it.

As soon they're old enough to know how to actually play video games in my opinion. I first played GTA when I was 7 and there was nothing wrong with that. The 18 rating is just there to keep concerned parents content.

GTAO is a complete disgrace compared to GTA IV multiplayer.

Care to add a little more to your post? The only reason why I ask is because this is the Debates & Discussion board, and you've given everyone else absolutely nothing to discuss...

I am not a parent (yet), but I honestly wouldn't want to expose my child in video game violence from a young age, despite the fact that I did play those games at a young age.
I think 15-16 years old is a good age to let them play a GTA game, they are usually developed enough to put video game violence in the right context.

I would have been about 8 when I first played San Andreas at my cousin's house in late 2004, early 2005. All I really remember from that day was shooting up a restaurant in San Fierro, stealing a Fire Truck and trying to cross the Grant Bridge (LV was locked). Then stealing a cab and driving to Los Santos.

San Andreas was the first GTA I bought, and I would have been about 13-14.

That seems to be a good age to start playing GTA.

Well this is debates & discussion, y'know, where you actually put thought into your posts.

Anyhoo, I'd want to say it's up to the parents to decide on their child's maturity, but this relies on the parent - and we know how much they care.

A simple age rating is the best, as people generally mature as they age. I'd give the minimum to be 15, but to allow for leeway (both in maturity and legally) 18 seems appropriate, especially since it's where most things become legal that are depicted in GTA that can be legal.

Yep. The point I was trying to make is that in this sub-forum users are supposed to try and discuss stuff, not just give random numbers and then leave for ever more without being prepared to explain their choice to others...
