I did PM a Moderator about this some days ago but i post to make it clear.

Now i fought that GTAF should have a system where when a new member registers they receive a automated PM that contains the forum rules (including signature rules) with a welcome note and also links to useful topics like miromiro's newbie guild and more. The reason for this is because the rules and topics like the newbie guild are somewhat obscure to the newbies (It took me around 14 days to find the forum rules and if it wasn't for MoSA [Master of San Andreas] i would of never found miromiro's newbie guild)

As this is such a advanced forum this features would benefit new comers so this will prevent topics like "hi im new here" etc... and help new members fit in better, this hopefully will prevent such topics as the one i mentioned and others.

Another suggestion

Also new topics should be completely unaccessible to members until a mod/admin approves it so porn topics won't get bumped up and can be removed so members wont see this stuff wink.gif as we know GTAF is open to all ages as porn isn't appropriate for the young one's

Sorry if i sound like a parent

I suppose it might help in introducing new members to our rules and policy, but on the other hand, I doubt it would do much good as many people tend to delete those generic e-mails from administrators.

Dunno if automatic PMs would help. New members don't read guides no matter if you receive a PM about doing it. It's kinda useless. Most members dislike reading (hence the GTA V section situation) so don't expect them to read the forum rules or guides. Most probably, under 10% of members who registered on this forum or are members have read the forum rules only, not even talking about any other kind of guide.

About the new topics thing, I said it some months ago, a lot of members register to post their ideas or are just spammers - yeah - but think of the members who register to open a topic to discuss something new or maybe they need help. You can't just the whole GTAForums' sections only because of the GTA V mess - that's what GTA V led-bys + the other staff are there for - to clean mess up. If new members wouldn't be able to create new topics when they register, and only after a period of time, they'll either high-jack other topics. I agree that approving topics would be nice, but think of the ton of work and time needed for it - to read every single topic that gets posted on a forum is an incredibly difficult job, even for a 25 staff members board and about 30 led-bys.

You're not the only one who suggests this thing, and if something was to be done, it'd have already have been done by now, but the only thing that can be done is to clear every single piece of mess. That's how I see things anyway.

@miromiro, Yeah your right, anyway there is a site that uses a "Automated PM" system (GTAGaming) so i fought maybe GTAF can use something simular smile.gif

But i understand the trouble needed to make this possible

GTAGaming uses vBulletin, which has the auto PM option incorporated. I doubt this (very modded and broken) version of IPB has it, and putting more mods in this is certain death. Besides, most people would just press cancel or skim through it, even though it could make some more people actually read them.

Your idea isn't terrible at all, it's good. I heard far worse ideas so don't worry about it. wink.gif The problem is that people who only come to the forum to troll will do it anyways and it wouldn't help so much I think. Sure, some people will read it but on the other side it could be risky because like Spider-Vice said, it's probably not even possible on this version of Invision Power Board. We can talk about features as such when V1.5 or V2 is around the corner and the staff will have to think about how useful it would be. The admins work on V2 since many years now and it seems that it still is far from being finished because it will use its own board instead of IPB. So we can say that the board is from GTANet for GTANet and then it will be not a probem to make significant changes but don't expect it anytime soon.

What about having it on the Index itself? In that way everyone would know about it.Just like it says 'Be Sure to check out the Grand Theft Auto V Forum' It should say:

'Need help with BB codes?want to know more about the forum?Check out the newbie guide by miromiro!'

'Please take a moment to check out the Forum Rules&Guidelines aswell'

The PM's would be useless to old members creating a new account or Spammers. smile.gif

As have been said, most of these generic automatic messages are overlooked or deleted.

I ignore them as they are always long and contains: Blah Blah Blah.

So IF this is done, I suggest it contains a short dot point list of the key rules with a link to all the rules.

Dude, I tried this a few years ago, I think I actually posted something about it a couple of times trying to get something going, but it never came to fruition. It contained links to forum help topics, welcome topics and all the rest.

I think the main problem was, if you are going to flaunt the rules, you are probably going to flaunt reading that PM, so it's pointless on the people that need it most.

The rules should be clearly placed in the main left side navigation pane as the rules are quite a job to find confused.gif
