Sorry if already posted.

GTA 5 is built on a new Rockstar engine

Grand Theft Auto 5 is being built on a new engine developed specifically for the upcoming open worlder, Rockstar Games has revealed.
"The scale of GTA is very different to LA Noire and even to RDR, so managing the team and keeping a clear creative direction becomes more difficult," Rockstar North boss Leslie Benzies told IGN.
"We had a lot of the North team working on RDR and LA Noire, which allowed us to gain experience of other projects and how to solve problems and use them within the new game engine we've created for V."
Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser has previously discussed the benefits the new engine brings to GTA 5.
The engine now allows for a much greater draw distance over previous GTAs, letting Rockstar "render the most distant mountains at the other end of the world many, many miles away", with further advances made to the lighting and shader model.
It's not known whether GTA 5's "new engine" is an updated version of Rockstar's RAGE, which was used to develop GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption, or an entirely new engine.
GTA 5's second trailer is expected to go live at 4pm GMT today.

GTA 5 release date is perfect, says Houser

GTA 5's release at the end of the current console cycle is perfect timing, Grand Theft Auto writer and Rockstar vice president for creative Dan Houser has told Japanese magazine Famitsu.
"Rockstar is a content company, not a hardware company," Houser explained (translated by Polygon). "We use the technology we have to create content, and we try not to let ourselves get beholden to the hardware.
"The fact that hardware's so mature right now is exactly why we're able to go on to the next level. GTA 4 was our first attempt at a new platform and HD visuals, so the first part of development was seriously difficult. Now we know what the hardware's capable of, so it's become a lot easier to move things along and a lot more fun, too.
"GTA: San Andreas came out at the peak of the PlayStation 2's cycle, and we put out a really good game thanks to that. All the best games for a console come out at the end of the lifecycle, right? So now's the best timing of all."

No way, it's not like we could tell that by looking in the corner of the screen or anything .....

Smart. Instead of getting used to the new gen, make the best game you can possibly make on the gen you've mastered. I bet GTA V will be way better than the first couple of PS4/XBOX720 games to come out.

It's not actually a new engine it's a new version of RAGE they said so in the interview.

And it's not surprising either. More often than not developers will make changes to the engine before releasing a sequel game, but almost never will they start over from scratch with a brand new engine.

The reason why Gta v was released on current~gen was because of money. Think about it if gta v was released on next gens a lot of people wouldnt have money to buy next gen because they would cost like 500 600

GTA V is the best that this generation of consoles is going to get. If they made GTA V an early next-gen release it would quickly be outdone by other next-gen games in terms of graphics and size.

They would also not be able to start development until they received specifications from console manufacturers. We would still be several years from even the announcement of GTA V if that were the case.

And they would have to start all over with a new engine, which would take a lot more effort and produce mediocre results since R* now knows its way around the RAGE engine forwards and back.

So no, it's hardly about money.

I'm not really interested in draw distance I just want the playable characters to move more freely. In GTA IV there was a slight delay when rolling.

I wonder if they are using RAGE 2.0 or something different. Hopefully cryengine 3 if anything.

Well I think R* (who have years of experience in the gaming industry) are a better judge than you (who has no experience)...

I wasn't agreeing with him.
