Since the magazine said that planes will be flyable from the start "Thanks to trevor being a former military pilot" and since its been comfirm that is just los santo's do you think the whole map will be open from the start for the first time in a gta game? Or will they seperate the countryside and deserts and the city by river or block the road leading to them or something?

Being able to fly from the start would kill the point of road block so i'm guessing yes.
Otherwise there's always online free roam if you wanna fully explore.

Yes.
It's confirmed that we'll have access to planes from the start. Nothing can stop us from crossing over then

Yes, I think so.

Trevor lives out in the desert in his trailer. Michael lives up in Beverly Hills area (not sure of in game name). Franklin is from south of Los Santos.

We can switch between them at any time between missions so straight away that let's us access the the city, hills, desert area. Just doesn't make sense to restrict the map. This is a bold new direction and I think it's time to do away with the whole islands being locked at the start of the game.

I think that the series has matured enough that the map shouldn't be cut into the usual three pieces: It looks like it will be open from the start.

perhaps we will only be allowed to play as michael for a couple missions until we meet the other characters and then can switch between them? or did the GI say that the first mission involves all of them? we have to be introduced to them somehow

Open from the start is good.

It makes for a far more natural-looking game world. Besides, we're going to get that 'three-ness' from the three playable characters, each representing and occupying a different part/side of Southern California. Rockstar like the number 3.

So you want us to be restricted from where to go. In an OPEN WORLD GAME!

I remember playing GTA:SA and flying planes into other islands. Los Santos airport was it?

As soon as you go into another island, cops will have 5 stars on your ass.

Yeah that didn't make explorations too fun at times, that also was long before i knew the "Lock wanted level" code but by that time i had already explored all three islands.

Now at least this time around, with V, i won't have an army of FBI agents following me while i'm exploring. ph34r.gif

...maybe ;D

I can't see how the game can restrict you from going to other islands if we have planes from the start, other than military jets, which I hoped they revamped because in San Andreas, they were too easy to avoid and take down.

This is one concept that I wish R* didn't throw away.

It's not about limiting what the player can do. It's about keeping other areas of the map fresh. GTA V's map might become boring quickly if we are able to explore the entire damn thing within the first few days of the game's release. Also, "more freedom" is possibly the best gift one can get from progressing through the story.

The article, if I remember correctly, said since someone can just go free roam online there was no point in locking map. I think that's a cool new direction. Although, I will say with the map being locked, I felt like I learned that part of it pretty well before moving on to the next part.

I think what he's trying to say is that GTA V doesn't seem like all the other GTA's, and it's lost that "GTA feeling".
If they give you the freedom to explore the map from the start, it's completely the opposite of all the other GTA's that we've had.

I would really like it if we can explore the entire map from the start.
A lot of people are going on about how GTA is changing and it's getting "worse" or whatever, but to be honest it's time for change. Rockstar is great at making games, so whatever they felt needed to change, I'm 100% sure it will be better than the other GTA's.

Well, if we can fly aircraft right from the start, roadblocks aren't going to stop us venturing into 'locked' territory. If we fly/swim/walk/jog to areas we haven't unlocked yet, I wouldn't be surprised if we get an instant wanted level as in previous games.

I think the main point of having to unlock areas of the map was that you kept having new places to discover, at least until you opened up the whole map. Perhaps this time they feel like they have a big enough map that will take us much more time to discover on our own even if that's the player's main goal, so that it won't get repetitive or boring for a long time. The challenge this presents is how to avoid overwhelming the player, given the (supposedly) increased number of activities, side-missions and random events plus the huge map at our disposal.

I think the fact that multiplayer allows you to explore the whole map from day one would defeat the object of "hiding" parts of the map until a further stage in the game, I thought that about GTA IV too.

Only places with potential possibility of blocks will be the those leading to outer map boundaries, if map wil be landlocked that is and may be achieved with a VC style to always turn you around or make your vehicle explode/player die.

Although, given the map will be so "huge" it may just be fully explorable and surrounded by endless sea like SA biggrin.gif

GTA maps are always open form, aren't they? The interiors had a load time in older games, that was all.

Only logical thing I can think of is the FIB being on your back in the beginning and wanting you to stay put. Leading you to get an instant 4 star wanted level upon leaving your safe zone. Otherwise there will be no restrictions I'm guessing.
