Its hardly worth fighting about. Clearly it will look epic on both. Doesn't really matter what console you have. It's just a troll topic at this point. LA Noire, Max Payne, all fine and dandy on the PS3. Clearly R* releasing info pics rendered on PS3 just showcases they have good control over the sony coding.

If one where to go out and buy a console based on biased dumb trolls than they deserve the console they will enjoy least.
Personally from my point of view, GTAV and The Last of Us as well as watching my bluray movies seals the deal.
For others Xbox live would be more important and the neat ways Xbox's are cross communicating with other devices.

If you buy a console because some clown makes a youtube video showing (biasedly) that one has better colour or is some how visually superior you are a retard.

By a good LED LCD 1080p TV with HDMI and never look back.

The ps3 is notoriously hard to work with that's why you have seen playstation exclusive franchises like final fantasy and tekken go multi-platform. Only in house studios make playstation exclusives anymore.

I wouldn't trust rockstar with the playstation 3. They've proven 2 times this generation that they can't work with it. GTA IV has a lower resolution than the 360 version, framerate that dipped and was overall a blurry mess, same with red dead redemption, which also became notorious for starting the "no grass" meme.

The internal resolution of GTA IV on the ps3 was 630p while on the 360 it was true 720p, not only that but the ps3 version was also more prone to framedips, spikes and overall lag. Red Dead Redemption wasn't quite as inferior on the ps3, but the lack of grass and a few framerate problems here and there didn't exactly make it better.

That's 2 examples from the same damn developer, there are hundreds of other examples of multi-platform titles looking and playing worse, on the ps3 the most notorious one being bayonetta.

You know, i don't care about this whole console war thing, it's been over for years, we're enterting the 8th year of this generation. Both consoles have their ups and downs, multi-platform titles being one of the ups of the 360.

Well, I don't care either way, I would much rather prefer playing GTA V on my pc and not on some 8 year old hardware than can bearly run 720p and 30fps.

GTA V is dead on arrival in my book. You can't have this "huge, revolutionary beautiful world" running on hardware that was even outdated back when it was released. The equivalent would be san andreas for the dreamcast.

This topic was created as a response to a gentleman who send me a somewhat angry PM not believing my claims and then blocked me because he couldn't handle the truth.

I have a ps3 myself I totally agree. R* did a poor job with the both GTAIV and RDR for the ps3 platform. I really noticed it when i would play it at my mates on his 360 and thought it looked different when i played at home. Turns out I wasnt the only one.
Honestly I could care less about those saying well its only a slight reso difference and graphics dont matter but to me i notice it and if im paying full price for a product i dont want an inferior copy.
Contrast and colour change is futile aswell as it is a resolution problem that can not be fixed by adjusting your tv.

I really do hope R* do a better job this time around with GTAV and anything less is pretty damn unacceptable imho for a game thats been in development for as long as it has and on platforms they now have years of experience programming on.

The GTAV demo is on PS3. Meaning all screenshots and trailers are from the PS3. So if you're satisfied with the screenshots, then you'll be happy with the game

Screenshots and gameplay are very different...

Consoles actually made the series popular, even though the first GTA was on PC, without III, VC or especially SA, people would care less about GTA. Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

Explain how consoles ruined GTA when we so many of the sales are consoles, if anything, consoles actually helped GTA quite alot. dozingoff.gif dozingoff.gif

to compare the PS3 version to Dreamcast is f*cking stupid.

That's not what I did. GTA V being developed for the 360, a 8 year old piece of hardware by the time GTA V comes out, is equivalent to San Andreas being developed for the dreamcast, a console that was only 5 years old by the time san andreas was released. So a better example would've been san andreas on the original playstation.

Point is, GTA V can never be as mind blowing and revolutionary as rockstar makes it out to be because of simple hardware limitations. This generation has been very long for various reasons ranging from the economy to special interest groups. Artists, designers, programmers and everyone involved in any development team is being limited by old hardware and corporatist pressure. This is everything but an ideal environment you want developers and the industry in general to be in.

You make a good point. The length of this console generation, and the VRAM limits that it has imposed, are hurting blockbuster titles like GTA V in terms of visual fidelity.

However, people said the same thing about San Andreas before it launched. The scope of that game should have been too big for the PS2 to handle. It wasn't, and San An is regarded by some as the greatest GTA ever.

GTA V will push the current gen to the absolute limit. This is the final hurrah for PS3 and 360.

GTA VI in 2018. See ya then. wink.gif

What about LA Noire and Max Payne 3 then? Those look fantastic on Ps3. Rockstar Games (that damned developer) as you disrespectfully put it, was at the time working with a new engine which is why IV looked as it did on the Ps3. They did the best they could do. Now 5 years on and they fully understand how to use what they have, so V will be far more advanced than from 5 years ago.
Have you not seen the screenshots? They are all from Ps3. Hell, even if V had SA graphics I'd still buy it because it's Grand Theft Auto.
If all you are worried about is graphics then maybe buy yourself a HDMI cable dude

L.A. Noire is not RAGE. L.A. Noire is a PS3-led development given it was originally announced as a PS3 exclusive. It's Team Bondi's engine (although R* San Diego's RAGE group did credited work on the game).

Max Payne 3 is RAGE and showed enormous improvement of PS3 performance compared to RDR and GTA IV, specifically in having a full 720p frame buffer which was compromised on earlier titles. However it was noted that the PS3 version still lacked a few lighting effects in certain scenes that were present in the 360 version. This suggests the PS3 version still had to be slightly simplified at times to achieve frame rate.

I don't have expert knowledge but I guess it has to do with the fact that the PS3 has its 512MB memory physically separated into 256MB for CPU and 256MB for GPU. The 360 has 512MB memory shared by CPU and GPU, which might make it possible to load a little more stuff on the screen by adjusting the balance of memory usage as needed.

He is right in some points. GTA V should be for next gen consols. They can not achieve what they really want to at present.

Moron.

I started playing GTA with GTA2 on PC.

It was incredible. I told everyone I knew about it. But it didn't matter. Nobody I knew was gaming on a PC.

Then GTA 3 came along for consoles. It established the GTA that we know and love today.

GTA wouldn't be as incredible as it is today, without the profits from being on console.

From a gamers point of view, who gives a sh*t that Sony's coding is harder to work with? I sure don't. It been out for nearly a decade for developers to get a handle on it. Shut up already.

Cross platforming games is about money, not Sony code. You are a tard. You can make twice as much money selling a game on both platforms.

And GTA is what it is because of console sales alone. If it stayed PC there would be no 3D or HD GTA. It would have died. R* would not be the business or developer it is today.

The words "PS3" or "Xbox" sure does bring out the stupid in people with pitch forks.

I think the main thing we are talking about here is the draw distance, how it was all blurry in IV and even if you changed it to 1080p it would still upscale it to 720p. Just leave it at 720p and IV would look nicer but not perfect.
Remember that was a whole FIVE years ago.
Rockstar have had more than five years now working with RAGE. I think games like RDR show as an example how the draw distance has improved and the screenshots of V is proof

We know the demo was on a PS3. We DON'T know that all screenshots and trailers are from the PS3. It's not logical to think the PS3 has suddenly become the lead platform when it wasn't with this engine before.

I don't understand, why would Rockstar play it on the PS3 then?

They probably did it to begin the end of discussions like this. They're well aware that the inequality of RAGE's performance was noticed in the past. Doing yet another prerelease demo on the 360 would perpetuate the narrative. Letting people see their confidence in the PS3 version of GTA V should, and does, suggest that the gains seen in Max Payne 3 are even greater in GTA V and that even the most anal-retentive pixel-counting graphics nerd won't be able to find anything but subjective differences between the PS3 and 360 versions of GTA V.

PS3 and xbox will be near identical, RDR and MP3 stand testament to that.

I really doubt the 360 version will be better. I've actually been worried that the PS3 version will be better. Now that I've purchased a 360 so I can game with a buddy of mine. I guess I'll have to convince him to get a PS3, which he should anyways.

My details are that the PS3 has had plenty of development time and R* obviously has it worked out (MP3 for example). If anything, it may even be better because of the fact that it has much more capacity on the disc.

Also, there are many games out there that are on both consoles that actually look better on the PS3. Sure, there are a lot more examples where the 360 has better graphics, but the same is true the other way around in some instances. Not only that, but don't some games have much better cinematics because they are able to fit on the disc for the PS3 where they simply can not with the 360?

Although, even when it comes to disc space, there will probably be a disc dedicated to installing textures/cinematics for the xbox which will make them equal even in that aspect.

So in conclusion, I doubt there will be much of a difference at all. Although if there is, I think it will favor the PS3 this time around. why you ask? Because Houser did A LOT of talking about the PS3 exclusively back when he talked about the future of GTA. So maybe they have always favored the PS3, just have not always been able to take it to it's potential?

If that's the case, then why would R* show GI the PS3 version for their cover story, rather than the 360 version? Seems to me the PS3 version might end up being better. Or virtually identical.

PS3 is likely the lead development platform, so I assume the PS3 version may look or run better than the 360 but time and time again this entire generation the PS3 has had multi platform games be lead development for it only for the 360 version to be just as good, so maybe we'll get an on par GTA this time.

360 having multiple discs won't matter if R* North implement the same system of disc use as we've seen in Forza Motorsport 4 and now Halo 4 for example, with Microsoft up sizing the size of USB thumb drives from 16GB to 32GB with the latest dashboard update, I see no reason why many people who are GTA enthusiasts would miss out on such an install system.

PS3 version will most definitely have a mandatory install again.

Wrong. RDR was rendered in 640p, and had a lower frame rate on PS3, same as IV.

Max Payne 3 was very similar between the consoles. Kudos to R* for that.

He did that on purpose, because he is a 360 fanboy, V will be identical on both consoles, f*ck fanboys, of every console.

A few years ago this post would be valid, now it's not, rockstar has fixed up the issues on ps3 and la noire and max Payne 3 looked beautiful on the Playstation, the only problem for this year is the x-box will need extra disks but that doesn't actually matter tbh

I have both 360 and PS3 I've had more problems with my 360 than my PS3 and my PS3 is more visually appealing in terms of graphics. I played GTA IV on both consoles an PS3 easily wins it for me so I'm sticking with that.

That's just my opinion and whoever likes 360 better then that's their opinion

And for that reason, the 360 is the lead platform.

If they developed it on ps3, and it turned out the map, radio stations, peds, vehicles and weapons go beyond 8gb they would be in big trouble, as they have to remove content to fit on 360.

I'm a proud owner of both consoles, seen the many flaws from both sides, and from my experience with many games (Rockstar games specifically), V will run better on 360 than the PS3. Of course that's my personal opinion, hell it could look great on both systems.

But I must say, some PS3 exclusive games look and perform great. I don't care for console wars, both are great and it only comes down to peoples opinion on how well their games perform.
