Because we didn't see that coming. Team Bondi needs to go away, Brendan Mcnamara should find another line of work, where he isn't in charge.

I must admit that would be a pretty uncomfortable conversation with a video game store clerk.

"Do you have a Whore of the Orient left in stock?".

If the video store clerk is an asian woman, just turn around and leave. Or wink after asking the question if you're into that sort of thing. lol.gif

What the hell is $200,000 dollars going to do (seems like a drop in the ocean for a supposedly AA or AAA game) & is that AUS or US dollars? Is the Australian government trying to make up for all the years they treated adult gamers like children?

I would definitely like to see this game come to fruition, because Australia should have & needs to have more development houses. I'm not hopeful of a Getaway or LA Noire quality game though.

The first gameplay footage from Whore of the Orient.

It uses the facial capture technology from L.A. Noire. The details of the surroundings... Team Bondi, you've definitely made my day.

I actually like it, but it's still 2-4 years before the release.

Saddening to see and hear the L.A. Noire engine and sounds all over.

It still looks decent and ofcourse the facial animation top-notch, but you got to step up not stay in the same shape.

It looks interesting from that video and it's far from being finished, so no judgment should pass yet. Also, a lot of L.A.Noire assets are re-used such as the sound of pistol. As I remember, Team Bondi studio has been closed down. Because of this, the game may never see the light.

It was a nickname for Shanghai at the turn of the 19th Century, along with "Pearl of the Orient" and "Paris of the East". I think you can work out why it was called that.

It looks like they are developing the game backwards. The environment detail is incredible, but the gameplay mechanics & animation look awful. They did the same thing with LA Noire, spent all that time on making it look pretty, but they didn't have a lead animator for most of the development time.

I realize that It's just when leaks happen of real early gameplay it is always the worst possible looking
footage and just can really deter a lot of people.

First looks are everything. No matter what stage. You get an idea of what the devs are
going for. No matter how unpolished it is. You either like the direction they are taking or
you hate it.

That reminded me on Indiana Jones movies.

Funny you should say that. Remember this cancelled Indy game from the beginning of this gen (gameplay starts at 1:24):

They did end up using Euphoria in the Force Unleashed games. Not sure why more developers don't use it. I know it's not an off the shelf animation system, it's probably complex & difficult to implement and no doubt expensive to license. It is still the best contextual animation system on the market & Rockstar have made great use of it in their games. It needs to be used more next gen.

Wonder how old the footage is. The only thing going for it so far is the lighting and
some of the textures. Everything else is very PS2'ish. (yes, yes I know-as talked about above-very early
gameplay)

This is clearly footage that wasn't meant to leak out, so I won't pass judgement on the look of the mechanics. It could be proof-of-concept footage for publishers.

Anyway, to shove this game off just because of L.A. Noire is a bit ignorant. People can get better at their craft. Let's hope the guys at Team Bondi read the more common criticisms on L.A. Noire and work at evolving the cinematic genre even further. Let's also hope that the director of L.A. Noire learned to stop being such an assh*le.

I absolutely love this setting, and would kill to see how MotionScan looks in a next-gen title. Fingers crossed this is something special. I loved L.A. Noire, despite its flaws.
