You guys are mistaking 'renders' for 'cutouts.'

Again, seriously. biggrin.gif

A render is basically to generate an image out of a model, what you guys are doing ar simply transparent cutouts.

I just don't want people confusing over the terms, just to clear things out. smile.gif

Actually, blitz. They're renders.. considering that most that use them will alter them in several ways making them, "renders." So we call them renders because that's what they're to be used for. To each his own, no bitching, just sharing my opinon as well. Render is used all over the graphics world, in computer graphics, 2D and 3D. icon14.gif

I have some friends in SCAD who go for Graphics & Design and call them renders as well. I guess it's just personal opinion as what you want to call it. Some of the art that is on here will be cut-outs because noone will add any effects.. which makes them simple cut-outs, but if ANY effect is added, it's a render.. therefore the majority of 2D graphic designers or anyone who cut-outs out a simple image to be used with effects will call it render, it's an analogy by alot of GFX Artists.

No need to keep reminding everyone, we saw your first comment about it.. we just chose to ignore it, because it's your personal opinion. icon14.gif

A rendered image (2D,3D)can be understood in terms of a number of visible features. Rendering research and development has been largely motivated by finding ways to simulate these efficiently. Some relate directly to particular algorithms and techniques, while others are produced together.

shading how the color and brightness of a surface varies with lighting
texture-mapping a method of applying detail to surfaces
bump-mapping a method of simulating small-scale bumpiness on surfaces
fogging/participating medium how light dims when passing through non-clear atmosphere or air
shadows the effect of obstructing light
soft shadows varying darkness caused by partially obscured light sources
reflection mirror-like or highly glossy reflection
transparency (optics), transparency (graphic) or opacity sharp transmission of light through solid objects
translucency highly scattered transmission of light through solid objects
refraction bending of light associated with transparency
diffraction bending, spreading and interference of light passing by an object or aperture that disrupts the ray
indirect illumination surfaces illuminated by light reflected off other surfaces, rather than directly from a light source (also known as global illumination)
caustics (a form of indirect illumination) reflection of light off a shiny object, or focusing of light through a transparent object, to produce bright highlights on another object
depth of field objects appear blurry or out of focus when too far in front of or behind the object in focus
motion blur objects appear blurry due to high-speed motion, or the motion of the camera
non-photorealistic rendering rendering of scenes in an artistic style, intended to look like a painting or drawing

Edit: Btw, that last render was niceeee. We need more of those kind biggrin.gif devil.gif

Nah, son.

This isn't 'my opinion,' it's an actual definition. Read up.

You can alter them all you want, they're still just cutouts. They could otherwise be resources that may be used by other aspiring designers as well, but not renders.

QUOTE

You can't have an opinion on a term, it's just the way it is. Refer to the dictionary if you don't understand.

QUOTE

Educate them then, that doesn't tell me much.

QUOTE
I guess it's just personal opinion as what you want to call it.

Again, they're two different things. It's as if you rendomly started calling orange juice, a lamp. Well, because it's your opinion on what it is.

It's a wrong analogy.

I don't intend to turn this topic into the 'definition-of-renders' thread, again, just clearing things out.

Why? Because if you continue using these terms, you can confuse people. It's like, you go ahead and tell someone to render a picture, they won't cut it out necessarily but turn it into a completely different thing. Or again, if you order for orange juice and get a lamp instead.

I'm out.

@Togrul that is great exactly the sort of quality needed smile.gif i added it

@blitz ok blitz i see what you mean mate smile.gif i only called them renders because i came from the planet renders website where they would call them renders and i dont plan on changing the name because i think they are renders icon14.gif so blitz are you going to post any "cut outs"?

also i just thought this is probably the biggest resource on the net for gta renders lol.gif and i also like seeing them used all over gta forums, i know a lot of people use this resource smile.gif

blitz got asshurt. blush.gif

It's render no matter how you look it bro and I did look it up, that paste I put in my other post is from a definition. Anyways, Nic, sorry about the BS in your topic bro.. some people can't seem to take truth or opinions it seems??

Instead of an indepth preach and quotes and other facts stating that what we have are renders, I'll just continue with the topic and say, well maybe one;
QUOTE
Because if you continue using these terms, you can confuse people.

Confuse those who possibly don't know, sure.. because someone decided to bounce in and try to stir the pot whilst it was already calm. Perhaps you want to start a render word crusade and visit every website that uses renders, gives out renders or has the word render and tell them what you have told us? But alot aren't confused because it what's they decide to call them as well, "Renders", or they're not confused because they just don't care. Which we didn't until you had to try and be the hero just to make what point? That you like to call it something else? Haha.... oh and.... yeah, son.

It's render, blitz. Enjoy yourself, back to topic.

@Togrul, mercie_blink.gif Niceeeee. GW wants moreeeee.

Sorry, for not taking it to the pm, because gotta clear something for other peoples.
Blitz have a point. I actually mistaken this to a 3d-related topic. With the name being changed to cut-out, it'll clear some confusion about it.

Gunwrath and nic, just act calm, man. Blitz has a valid point, you should take it into consideration.

@Narcis:
Actually you could extract those from the .wtd files of GTA IV, and with much bigger resolution and already have transparency, if im not wrong.
Can't check it, since i don't have IV at the moment.

@Togrul:
Never seen those artwork before. Is it taken from a fan art, or something ?
