lift the size limit to unlimited but still keep the size limit of 500x150

its not the year 2002 any more, we all have faster internet to load the pages instantly.

and its a pain because if you save as png you have to polerize the image before saving it to get the actual KB's down to under 80.

anyone else have an opinion or think its a good or bad idea?

This has been brought up time and again, and the general consensus amongst staff is that the current limit is fine and is not going to be increased in the near future. We have to take into consideration that not all members have fast internet connections. Not to mention, many of us browse the site outside their homes, on their mobiles, etc. Pages will take longer to load and annoy people if we allow higher size signatures since sigs are turned on by default.

Unlimited is a bad idea, I don't want to wait 5-10 minutes before pages load (not because I have a bad internet connection, but most of the members would abuse it by using movies in the sig space)
Like I said some weeks back, balancing the sig limits with the avatar limits could work just fine.

And you just know that mad people will be putting up ridiculously huge animated sigs.

Get a page full of those and you may be rethinking that "load the pages instantly" comment.

Edit: Hey Narcis...

Read this old note from Tank. smile.gif

QUOTE (Tank @ Wednesday, Sep 24 2003, 19:17)
Remember, a talented sig maker doesn't need a huge amount of space to impress. Even so, 150x500 pixels is a large amount of space. If you're still bitchin' about lack of space, then assume I'm bitchin' at your lack of sig-making skills. Like many things in life, the real talent isn't the size of your sig, it's how you use it.

Well how about 150kb limit that would easily cover a png signiture. And would load on a phone?

And promethius im not talking about image size im talking about memory size. If you save it so its transparent it doesnt just work because its over 80kb you have to make the quality lower. And 500x150 is big enough im not even talking about size.

Nope. You're not seeing the bigger picture here. The forum default is 20 posts per page. That would mean having to load 3MB worth of just signatures.

Sorry, but there are going to be no further changes to the sig rules that we already have in place.
