The new vehicles were ones that were devised for Agent. It would also explain why the vehicles are listed as "depreciated": they are for a project the code is no longer used for.

Some GTA vehicles are rough caricatures of real life counterparts. Some are even mixes of several different vehicles. This goes for aircraft as well. They are listed as "deprecated" because they were only used for testing. But the rest of it might be right. The "new" vehicles don't have to be from V. Some could have came in from other projects.

Alright, I'm done with again reading through all 101 pages for relevant info and have compiled the links and added some explanations.

Now I'll just have to add some sort of summary and the different lists (vehicles, weapons etc).

Then finally, we'll have that "pure info" thread people were asking for.

Here's what happened after I saw this.



After seeing this, my mind was substantially blown. Why would GTA files be in Max Payne 3? Eventually, my curiosity had gotten the better of me, and I attempted to discuss with anyone at GTWiki why is a topic from a forum used as substantial proof and what makes it so real? My friend spaceeinstein replied with this.

Doing a bit more research into the topic, I decided to search up in GTA IV's Content Changes. Here's what I found.

My theory is that the snow vehicles could have been canceled for IV. Further evidence can prove this by an article I read up on a while back that stated GTA IV was originally going to planned up as Liberty State, but was cut very early in development (I wish I bookmarked it).

Hmm It makes sense, but who really knows what its based on. V could use files from IV...

It's possible assuming that the Liberty State version of IV ever got past the planning stages. There's no real indication of that. Snow could've been intended as a weather effect without a snowy environment actually being included.

But it's impossible to know for sure. It'll be interesting to see how all this pans out when we get actual info in the future.

First of all, let's get the basics right.

THE STORY OF THE THREAD

On May 15th, GTAForums member zzcool started the infamous "GTA V vehicles.ide lines found in mp3 files" thread.
He posted some text from the vehicles.ide file found within common.rpf of the Max Payne 3 Xbox 360 version.
This text contained references to GTA, which one(s) is up for debate.

People started finding vehicle names and other things that don't seem to belong to IV, meaning they might have been taken from V.
At some point, forum members Fantaseb and twisted89 joined in, declaring they were the ones who actually found the data.
They started supplying us with screenshots and text excerpts as proof they weren't faking it, but nobody was quite sure.

Then, Fantaseb posted an E-Mail he believed to have gotten from Gary Foreman at Rockstar, however the E-Mail was clearly fake (the mail address belongs to a domain owned by Nokia, there are grammatical problems, Foreman apparently hasn't worked at Rockstar for some time etc.).
That's why everbody jumped to the conlusion that everything Fantaseb, twisted89 and zzcool posted had to be fake, and the thread was (probably) almost closed.

But then GooD-NTS (the coder of OpenIV) uploaded a video of himself opening the Max Payne 3 files in OpenIV's internal developer version to Youtube, proving the files the three guys claimed to have gotten from Max Payne 3 were really on there, and that the file contents they posted were real as well.

GooD-NTS later came to the thread and declared he didn't think much of Fantaseb, but what he claimed to have found was indeed real.

Ever since then we've been looking over these files (manually), then I coded a little tool to make searching the files easier.

That's where we are now.


WHY ARE THERE FILES FROM (MAYBE) GTA V ON THE MAX PAYNE 3 DISC(S)?

Rockstar uses the RAGE engine for their games, and it updates it as it sees fit, meaning: often times, code that they have already written for a certain game can just be copied to another game, and then edited from there.
That's usually way faster and easier than writing everything from the start again.
So apparently what happened is that someone at Rockstar copied some files from GTA:SA, GTA IV and apparently even an early version of GTA V to Max Payne 3 and just edited those files to work with Max Payne; however, he/she did NOT delete the old data, but instead usually just commented it out (by using ";" or "#" at the start of lines), which meant the code can still be read, but the program that's supposed to read those files will just ignore the lines marked as comments.


HOW DID THEY GET THOSE FILES OFF THE DISC(S)?

Max Payne 3 for Xbox 360 was leaked to the web on 2012/05/10 by P2P "group" XPG, in the meantime it's gone on sale in the US as well.
People downloaded that and started looking through the files in order to mod the game.
To do that, they had to extract the .iso file an xbox disc usually comes in when it's downloaded, there are multiple tools that you can use for that; within they found (mostly) .rpf (Rage Package Format) files.
Forum member twisted89 wrote his own tool (or possibly modified SparkIV or OpenIV) to extract those .rpf files and was able to see what files were contained within.
One of those files was "vehicles.ide", another one was "handling.dat" and by now we've (apparently) seen most files from common.rpf.


HOW DO WE KNOW THESE FILES HAVE ANY RELATION TO GTA V?

In those files, there are mentions of the "Andromeda", "Dodo", "Rhino", many vehicles that were in IV ("Infernus") but also some that have not been seen in a GTA game yet; this is NOT definitive proof they belong to V, but it makes it seem the most likely option.
First of all, we KNOW the vehicles are not from Max Payne 3 but at least some GTA (many who played the entire game confirmed this, also many of the car names make it a dead giveaway).
Then we know, thanks to another member, that the definitions for the "Andromeda" differ between GTA:SA and what is in the "new" files; according to that member, the definitions (like speed etc.) for that vehicle seem reminiscent of a "HD era" (IV, V) GTA, not an "SD era" GTA, and apparently was also found in the IV files.
So all in all, we can't be quite sure where they came from yet (some files might even be from Agent), but at least some of them seem to best fit V.


HOW CAN I HELP? I WANT TO FIND SOMETHING COOL TOO!

First of all, download the "data.rar" file Fantaseb posted (post, download), extract the file to a new folder (using either WinRAR or 7-zip on Windows).
If you have some time to spare, the best thing you can do is to just look through all of the files, opening them with a text editor (like "Notepad", formerly known as "Editor" on Windows).
Just look through them and see if you can find something that has not been mentioned yet, or more proof for something that was mentioned.

However, if you don't have much time to spare, you can just download findInTXT (post, download), a little tool I quickly whipped up.
Using that, you can open all of the files and search through them automatically.
All you need to do is to start the program, click "Open directory...", select the directory you extracted the data.rar to, enter a search term (like "claude") and then click "Save to .txt file...".
The program will create a new text file there that contains a list of all files that were searched and, if the search term was found, where and how often it was found.
Just read through that .txt file and report any interesting finds.

Alright, now that we got that out of the way, let's get down to the new finds.

CHARACTERS

What it comes down to is:
- there are vehicles (that were neither in MP3 nor GTAIV) listed as "Jimmy vehicles" in handling.dat, right next to "Max Payne vehicles"
- these vehicles seem to almost scream "we belong in GTA"
- we do not know who Jimmy is; I like to believe he is V's protagonist. But he might be a mission giver (in V), or the main character from Bully (doesn't make much sense) or the main character of Agent (which I believe is dead, but even if it's not, I doubt a car named "farting", another one named "69" and a bobsleigh would fit what we know about Agent).
Also, in one mission in GTA IV ("Final Interview") Francis McReary greeted Niko Bellic with "Hey, uh, Jimmy". This doesn't explain any of the vehicles either, so it's most likely just coincidence (or, Rockstar having some fun with us by calling GTA IV's protagonist by GTA V's protagonist's name... or, maybe Niko was actually known as "Jimmy" before they decided his real name, and the vehicles are beta vehicles from IV).
- my own personal unproven entirely made up theory is that Jimmy is "Jimmy the Gent" crossed with "Henry Hill" (the main characters in Goodfellas) and we start where Goodfellas left off, after "Jimmy Hill" tried to start a new life after snitching on his old mob buddies; he requested to be transferred "somewhere warm" when talking to the feds.
- If you remember Trailer 1, this *might* fit pretty well (voice similar to Henry Hill/Ray Liotta [apparently Ned Luke iirc], "Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather", "be a good guy for once", "but you know how it is"...)

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS MATTER:

- The "Jimmy" thing is very weird, I think we can all agree on that, why would they have two sections in handling.dat - one named "Max Payne vehicles" with... you guessed it, Max Payne vehicles - and one named "Jimmy vehicles" with vehicles that clearly belong to a GTA game?
I think this is a hint at "Jimmy" actually being the protagonist's name, what other reason could there be to refer to GTA vehicles as his?
Someone suggested he might be a mission giver but that doesn't make too much sense to me personally, see the last sentence.
Maybe (and I'm aware this is wishful thinking) we'll play as "Jimmy Hill" who is a mix of "Jimmy the Gent" and "Henry Hill", the two main characters of Goodfellas (which has always been an inspiration for GTA).
The voice in the Trailer reminds me of Henry Hill/Ray Liotta (yes I know this was discussed before and isn't him but probably Ned Luke who imho sounds almost exactly the same).
Maybe we'll continue where Goodfellas ended, with Jimmy just having fled/being relocated by the Feds to a sunny place (like "Henry Hill" asked for in the movie).
Remember... "Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather... be a good guy for once... play ball, sit in the sun... but you know how it is."
Sounds to me exactly like "Goodfellas 2 - No way out" or a good next storyline for GTA wink.gif
But of course, there isn't much proof for that right now, again, this is just my wishful thinking.

A lot of the files that aren't used in MP3 seem to be an edited version of IV's. For instance in handling.dat:

Also in that you can see the ANNHIL, or Annihilator, which uses the HIND_GUN (my guess to that is its a 4-barrel machine gun), but in GTA IV it uses a dummy set to be a minigun.
There's also other examples like the cargrp.dat which isn't used by MP3 at all, and yet it has been changed: All the cars have been removed, and replaced by just the seinove, and it's been edited to a more organized layout.

So, while I'm not sure what this code was/is used for, I don't think it was used for GTA IV, but after it.

why not ask me and i'll put it at the front page is it really needed with another thread about the same thing?
