Haha, Waddy this sentence right here made my day.

On-topic:

Full development in the game world means crunching time. Everyone is in full force adding the final bits and testing different aspects of the game, making it reading for an official annoucement and possible release day. I'd say within 6 months time they will reach gold status.

And what experience, study or specific knowledge do you have to be certain of your description of what 'in full development' means?

In the trailer, it seems 70-80% finished so i think they started with gta 5 around 2010.

And they've made the whole city, new cars, planes, characters in just a year (and a half)? Ne verujem... smile.gif

i bet the majority of the things we see in V would have been copied directly from IV.

Things like cars, buildings, texture ect. would have been just copied and changed a little. This is why sequels are released so much quicker, they have most of the content needed.

Making the map, new content, story and side missions would be what they probably only have left.

( i know V is not a sequel, but i mean its using the same engine and most of the other stuff)

Well, apparently GTA V was being made before IV's release but I'm not that really sure about that. Although, I do believe this game is most likely finished. Rockstar Games just want Max Payne 3 out there first..

like IV started development a year before SA's release (2003)!

GTA V would have been in its early developments around in November 2007 to about March/April 2008. And the scripts, the content of the game etc would have started straight after GTA IV to get an early start of making GTA V. So GTA V would have been near completion about Mid 2011 with mini games etc being thought and completed, also roundabout mid to late 2011 R* would have been 90 to 100 percent completed with the final testing of the game to be done.

So GTA V by now would have been completed and now waiting to go out of R* North doors anytime now i think

I think Agent was going to be Rockstar North's next game after GTA IV but the plans changed and it's why GTA V has been a long time coming.

Agent got announced in 2009? Looks more likely that this game is dead in place for gta5.

To me, yes.

The trailer was released to:

- let us know GTA V is coming
- let us check R* news daily

Also:

Check past announcements of game releases by R*

Between RDR's, GTA IV's, Agent's or Max Payne 3's first info and release AT LEAST ONE YEAR passed.

It sucks, sure. I'd love to play GTA V today, but R* release history speaks for itself.
2013 I still assume, earliest October 2012.

Development on GTA V was started no later than 2009 IMHO. They were starting the final run on it a few months back.

It is in the final stages, they hired people to test the game out for bugs and tweaks a few months ago. Be patient and good things will come.

I hope not. Agent looked like it had the potential to be a great game with it's late 70's cold war espionage setting. I hope that project is still alive.

When they said in full develoment I hope they meant they were working on it and that now they added their "A team " That trailer looked so awsome just looks like they have to tune it up with the shadows, adding cars and voice and environment sounds

People don't know the work that goes into a game such as GTA IV.

By the time they released a trailer, the environment, the script, the voice acting, and just about everything else would have been finished.

In fact there would have been a playable beta available to them for months.

90% of the work would have been done, BUT its the last 10% that is the most detailed and difficult.

It takes time to go through all the animations and perfect them, both in-game and cut-scene rendering. The modelling/ rendering is far more difficult now in this gaming era given the characters facial expressions and mouth movement need to be exactly correct for the dialogue in the scene.

The final stages are frustrating and time consuming on these type of projects, while I unfortunately am not a video game animator I know their trade as it is similar to mine and I know theirs is far more difficult.

The sequence is:

Chose a location and write a story. This will have been started in 2007, before even IV was released.

Write the story. The writers would have written thousands of ideas and concepts, a large portion of which will not have made it to the final game.

Survey on the city and renders of the proposed locations drawn up.

Design work begins on the city (2009ish?)

Renders are drawn up for the proposed characters and the preferable images are chosen from many, to best suit the characters personality.

The finalised story is brushed up, and they begin looking for the voices of their new characters. The profiles of the characters are now complete and the audio part of the process begins simultaneously with the graphic design.

The game is now in full production.

It takes some time to produce the first "beta" copies of the game.

When they are happy with a beta copy, they hire testers to find bugs and problems, of which there are always many, It is then the task of removing these glitches from the game while testing continues.

I'd say this is when they would release a trailer at the earliest.

Some wait untill the game is complete but my best guess is R* have released it at some point prior to testing to gain hype for Max Payne or increase take-two's stock before release.

I do rather wish they had held out till later to release the trailer.

We can either assume the game is undergoing final alterations or it is finished and waiting on a realease window that suits T2.

I hope that this will make the process clearer and no-body will accuse me of being some kind of wannabe insider who works for R*N because I only wish i'd ever get such an opportunity, I'm just trying to explain how things work, given a few comments on here have the process wrong.

nice to see someone else who's considering logic while talking about game timelines.

Anyways, I can't see GTA V taking as long to develop as IV did, considering the grunt work of Iv was building the RAGE engine.

V already has the RAGE engine set up, they just needed tweaks like flying mechanics for planes for the big engine updates, maybe some other engine overhauls for content we don't know about yet.

Also think about how long ago R* went to SoCal,

with the time they have had, they probably started work on Agent, but then got told to go back to GTA. (also assisting with LA Noir.)

Judging by the trailer, most of the map looks finished, they probably just have missions and gameplay tweaks/bug fixes to work on, some music and voicing. I want to say they are approaching 70-80% complete, maybe even close to 90% but I could be wrong.

Well, we know that big chunk of city featured in the map is pretty much finished. So they were definitely working on it before they announced "full development".
