It's a simple equasion, really, the desert needs more cows.

Because:
More cows = more cowbell.

Let's face it, GTA needs more cowbell.

Go listen to Missisipi Queen if you want cowbells.

Okay, here we go...

- A small gathering of alien afficianados in the desert. Gathered around a makeshift trailer park, they have tables where they sell various UFO paraphernalia. Nothing else to see, just weirdos who believe in that kind of stuff.

- John Martson's hat hanging on a tree. Just a cool Easter Egg.

- A 'mass grave'. If you look close enough in the mound of sand, you'll see copies of GTA III sticking out. This would be a little riff on the myth about the ET game on the Atari.

I'm expecting the desert to look and play like RDR, maybe won't look as good but definitely will be close.

I know it wont be possible, but just imagine if they had the sand effects of uncharted 3.

Would be incredible. Either way, i want the desert o look very deserted with the random cabin or something located somewhere and with at-least 2 or 3 oasis around.

It did get frustrating though being attacked by a random cougar while trying to complete a certain objective.

I hear that lol

lol, thats my favourite scene together with the plane flying over the Vinewood sign, but that doesn't confim a big/huge desert.

Well there is the wind farm scene andthe liquor store/hooker scene which looks like a desert environment to me. I don't know maybe there wont be a desert but given that Los Santos is probably the only city is seems weird to me that R* wouldn't take advantage of LAs fairly close proximity to a desert.

Yeah I love the idea of a desert but sadly no one confirmed it. It could be something they'll show in the upcoming trailers but if they would unveil a huge desert, who can really that they won't unveil other towns?
I'm 90% that there is a quite big part of the map we haven't seen yet. Be it a desert, Countryside or other towns. The map just doesn't seem that big, especially not if there are planes in the game.

How about some old, abandoned factories or very small towns? What about a random shack here and there?

Topography
- Some desert-plants, cacti and other
- Atleast one interstate/freeway/paved road to passing through, like seen in several movies.
- Canyons, heightdifferences, sanddunes in specific areas.
- Tumbleweed/Hayballs rolling around with wind.
- Windier than in suburbs/midtown/downtown , as desert is plain.
- Animals, deers, racoons etc.

People
- Hillybillys/rednecks
- Not very populated, a bit isolated from surronding regions
- "Wierd" people, gun-crazys, moonshine brewers etc.
- Hitchikers on the road, as random characters

Mystical
- Chupacabra biggrin.gif
- Shady people with hoods and sunglasses.
- anything related to urban legends,
- Atari videogame burial (E.T) sly.gif

I'd love like a massive cave, we could travel through it, tunnels and stuff.

It'd be great to find a massive underground sort of pool or something, like make it look stunning. If anyone has ever seen 127 Hours - this is what I mean:

Something similar to that, I think it'd be great to find it if you're travelling underground through caves under the desert and stuff.

Would be great and a fantastic contrast to the rest of the map but I'd still prefer a bigger scale than underground places.

First post! Been reading this forum for a while now, some fantastic ideas being put forward.

Someone earlier mentioned a little Easter Egg, John Marston's hat being hung from a tree, this would be excellent along with a few other RDR references (provided of course it is in an area where RDR was set).

I'd love a top secret base, more detailed and expansive than the SA one. You can get in unnoticed and explore but you have to do very difficult side missions for corrupt guards who in exchange give you special uniform, ID and whatever that mean you can go look at some top secret weaponry, aliens etc.

Underground caves sound fun.

Loads of people have mentioned one, long, boring, desolate road. This is a must, it wouldn't be the American desert without one, some lost hitchhikers (as people have mentioned) would be good as a version of taxi missions or random encounters.

Animals.

Tiredness, very slow loss of health after a while, only replenished if shade is found.

Gypsy parks, the gypsy's are represented as hatable characters, one of the random encounters you come across in the desert has a vendetta against these gypsy's and wants you to steal a caravan/kill a couple/take someone ransom. Would be a fun little encounter.

Little oasis' where you can take a swim or drink, this can replenish health.

Loads more ideas, will come back when I can remember them!

I love the idea of a Breaking Bad (New Mexico) desert with RV biggrin.gif Sounds awesome, hopefully the desert would be enough big to make a Machinima based on Breaking Bad tounge.gif

If they were to bring back the BF Injection or Bandito (or vehicles like them), I would like to have some sand dunes.
Pismo Beach type sand dunes.

I think that RDR was light years better as far as a desert environment. I expect something similar to that.

A little off topic but as for animals, which I reallyyyy hope they put in, I want to hear them a little more. Imagine walking around the desert and hearing a coyote howl but not seeing any. Same goes for bears/cougars/whatever other animals they put in. I think it would make you pay more attention. In RDR if you heard a cougar or bear you already knew they were around you and about to attack. But if all you did was hear them it would definitely add a more spooky atmosphere.
