Are we ditching polls entirely? I'd honestly be all for that, even if it would narrow down the sample group by a ton. While I agree with "simpler is better", the really sh*tty posts have got to be weeded out. "I vote for The Godfather because it's awesome", "Scarface is the best movie ever" and so on won't fly, right? Some minimum level of justification should be decided upon, "Scarface is the best movie ever because it captures the Miami of 1980s and Tony's rise to power is [whatever]" for instance. Past that minimum, a small blurb should be worth just as much as a hundred-page thesis.

How about May 1st, rather than the fourth? Should be enough to spread the word around a bit. We just need to decide on something.

May 2nd? May 2nd I would prefer because I was planning on doing some sigs tonight.

Oh and right, stuff like "I vote for The Godfather because it's awesome" will not count; a minimum of 50 words is required. Polls are gone.

If we start on May 4th I demand that Star Wars be included in that day's poll.

E: Woah. I just assumed at least one of the Star Wars films would be in there. Don't think I've ever seen a list like this without Empire Strikes Back in it somewhere. Not that I'm bothered, I've always thought they were just "good" rather than great.

Empire Strikes Back is nominated.

Ah so it is. I just Ctrl+f'ed for "Star Wars" and got no results. I assumed the full title would be there. Sloppy Indi, sloppy tounge.gif .

I guess the world is back to normal.

@Robinski: Sorry dude tounge.gif , when the voting starts I'll insert "Star Wars."

May 4th is defnitely now when the voting starts, I have decided that.

May 4th.

It'll give me time to prepare the signatures for people to wear.

so how is this thing going to work exactly? I understand the voting process, but in terms of the overall organization of the films that will compete against each other, will there be some kind of predetermined bracket? I'm curious to know on which two films we'll be voting first so I can watch them if need be.

oh and if y'all want some custom made sigs, holla at ya boy.

Random, I'll copy paste all of the films; put it into a generator. First 2 films that pop up the top, get chosen.

How long are the threads going to remain open? 24 hours? Seems like enough time to catch a movie.

Also, personally, I think it's more interesting if the films stay a mystery until we're due for voting, but this way people might watch them ahead of time.

Ouch, I feel very sorry for Lock Stock. The others are hard choices at just a glance. Gonna have to contemplate over Indiana Jones and Fight Club, both great but for completely different reasons.

Ah, all right. I misunderstood. I thought there would be one topic. 48 hours seems reasonable, since most of us have seen a fair amount of the films in the competition.

EDIT: ninja'd

Bam! I see 2 of mine falling out early here. Fight Club vs Raiders is a damn good match up though.

You know it has just occurred to me that we're gonna need more than 100 nominations?

f*ck sake.

We're gonna need about another 50 films for nomination.

Sorry guys, such a clutz! We're going to continue as normal on May 4th, but in the meantime people can also nominate another 50 films.

I am probably missing something but why need the extra 50 ? Surely you just take each loser of the first round and put them against each other and the same with the winners and it just continues on so forth. Surly you not planning on matching them all, that gain the closest response but require far to many rounds

Well damn, I haven't seen about half those films and less than 48 hours till the voting commences. I'll be lucky to get in a film tonight and tomorrow, otherwise I'll be mostly a spectator of this first round.

Why did you feel a need for an extra 50 films, Indi? Surely 100 films is sufficient for a top 100 list.

I hate double posting, but we are actually 10 films short after going through them all and making signatures I noticed that.

So anyone who has already nominated can nominate another 2 films if they wish to get this up by tomorrow.

I got one question regarding the voting. How are we gonna choose the winner of the round? By the number of the votes or simply by the binary way (better - worse). If we are going to use the first way we may end up having not the top 100 movies, but most popular 100, because great, but unpopular movies will end up on the lower parts of the list.

See the thing is, a better movie to some might not be better to others, a worse movie to others might be a greater movie to others.

The whole thing is unjustified, the way it is now is probably the best way.
