Why was this "murder" so special that it got all this attention? Just another kid that doesn't deserve anymore attention than other murder victim tbh.

Exactly!!

Because a big 'White Man' shoot an UN-armed 'Black Child'.

It got press in the beginning because Zimmerman didn't even get arrested and charged until a month or two after the shooting.

As far as I'm concerned, he deserves jail time.

I don't understand why you feel the need to place them in quotation marks as if to imply they aren't actually true. Zimmerman is both white and adult. Martin was black and a child according to the law when he died. It seems disingenuous to imply these things aren't factually correct when they are.

As for the question of whether people should riot if they don't get the verdict they want, of course the shouldn't. That's utterly idiotic. To be honest, it was utterly idiotic in the case of Rodney King and it's utterly idiotic in any case. The whole idea of a system that relies on trial by jury is that the most knowledgeable people in relation to the case are the jurors. To suggest they are "wrong", whilst, let's be fair, not actually having any understanding of the case even remotely nearing theirs in technical terms, is just...well, I've used the word several times before, so let's settle with idiotic. Given what's been released, it is difficult to argue reasonable grounds for self-defence. That implies manslaughter at the very least, but without knowing every detail of the evidence provided we can only give subjective and limited assessments. At the end of the day, an innocent verdict doesn't mean he didn't commit a crime- all it means is that he isn't criminally culpable in the eyes of 12 strangers. Culpability is very different from activity.

At least the Jury is making a good show. No turning around and coming to a conclusion in the Jury Box. icon14.gif Before they Hang'em High.

Got to 'protect & promote' the Political Creativeness of the 'modern judicial system'. They know if they don't find the 'correct' verdict they are toast. turn.gif

George Zimmerman was involved involved in a lawful activity, he confronted Trayvon Martin, which is also not illegal, for some reason a violent conflict ensued, Zimmerman fired one shot upon feeling threatened which killed Trayvon. He's not guilty, he's just an asshole. If the jury could release a "Not Guilty but a Complete f*ckface" verdict I'm sure they would do that. That's not how the law works. George Zimmerman is not guilty.

I agree with the first part, but don't think Zimmerman is an asshole. He is a person, he approached a sketchy guy who allegedly put his hood up when noticed Zimmerman would confront him. The kid for sure was suspicious and Zimmerman was doing his community protection duty. There was a confrontation as the kid hit Zimmerman and Zimmerman, as an individual, not a trained law-enforcement officer, struggled to take Trayvon down, firing a shot amidst the struggle and killing the kid.

He made a mistake anyone would, he doesn't deserve to be jailed.

As for the trial, glad to see the defense doing an excellent job. O'Mara and West are a fantastic team and I hope they win this case.

He should still be held accountable even if it was a 'mistake'. Maybe not second degree murder but most likely manslaughter.

"Oh let's not send him away for 25 years... something like 5, yea 5 years of his life down the drain sounds about right". People like you symbolize the main problem with the judicial system. Do you see anything wrong with this morbid process of deciding what arbitrary number is the right one to zap out of someones lifespan? Zimmerman going to jail doesn't stop Martin from being in the grave. It's a shame this trial is so widely known; there will be political ramifications no matter which way it's decided. Honestly, Zimmerman's day's in the neighborhood watch are over and that should be that. A kid died. That sucks. Why ruin another life just so we can pat ourselves on the back and say 'justice served'?

Kinda off-topic, but Zimmerman looks f*ckin' sad and pathetic. The guy has has no income, no assets, and no real prospects. He looked like a reasonably fit guy during the start of this, but now he has descended into an obese patient.

The guy's gotta be stressed out of his mind.

Gotta love armchair observers who think they're more qualified to speak on the issue than people who have had access to far more information on the case than themselves. That's proper ignorance, that is- "oh, these people have been provided with all the relevant information, and I've just heard a few snippets on the news, and got no detail, but I'm right and they're all wrong".

Some say his rapid weight gain is a tactic suggested by his defense team to make him look less threatening, he's also gotten rid of his facial hair since the trial began so that he looks more like a giant man-baby hybrid.

Terrible, truly terrible.

Can you believe Americans didn't throw the guy in prison just because they don't have any proof he did anything illegal?!?

If Zimmerman's head was being smashed into the ground he would have had far greater injuries than a broken nose.
