The canonicity of GTA Advance is debateable - not only is it the only GTA game to not be primarily developed by a Rockstar studio, it does not feature on Rockstar's Official Grand Theft Auto Website, it is also the only top-down game in the GTA III Era and is the only avaliable GameBoy Advance game in the GTA III Era.

So guys, what you you think? Do you reckon GTA Advance is canon to the GTA III Era or not?

8-Ball exists in the game, so I think that's proof of its canon-icity.

Yes. 8-Ball, King Courtney, Asuka and Misty were in the game and those characters appeared in GTA III. When you play GTA Advance you will also see many similarities to GTA III because the games are set in the same area.

It's as canon to III as Chinatown Wars is to IV.

Yes, III-era. It was released after Vice City, so it's in the same time area. And as others said, the characters and area.

Depends..

By the way: the fact that he same characters appear doesn't mean that it's canon.

By the way: I hate the word "canon". I think they should let the fans decide what they consider as canon or not.

Didn't the accident with 8-Ball's hands happen in GTA Advance?

If I remember right, then GTA Advance was supposed to be an exact copy of GTA III but just in 2D. That was the case until Rockstar decided to create new characters and create a new story for the game! The game nevertheless has some characters from III so I would say it's a canon to GTA III.

Yes, and this is canon. As proof of the old Liberty Tree website for III. It says he burned his hands from hot grease during a police raid. (before the events of III)

Almost every character in CW was in the police database in IV.

Umm, yeah. I know. I was just pointing out that characters from IV don't physically appear in CW (or the other way around), despite that they're both in the same canon. Unlike some III characters appearing in Advance (which are also in the same canon).

Game is 2D, but some characters from GTA III are in GTA Advance, so GTA Advance is member of GTA III era.

It's not. Liberty City in GTA Advance looks too different. I also don't think the story fits between LCS and III.

I consider it a spinoff.
