Honestly, it sort of reminds when you get the message on GTA SA about being too fat and at risk of 'having a heart attack'. People want realism, well the truth is Ned Luke* doesn't look like it he's in shape, which would either A) Take away from gameplay elements like running and jumping B) Be unrealistic by having him capable of these things despite not being REAL.

If the old guy is a protagonist, I'm hoping for multi-protagonists.

*I'm refering to Ned Luke the Character in the trailer, not Ned Luke the actor.

i love this guy, HydraulicWaRiOr. i really do!
funny motherf*cker lol.gif My money goes to Ned Luke on being the protag. (sigh)
but i'd prefer a younger and ignorant to the system protag, rather than an experienced
ol' chap. viddy_pirate.gif

a middleaged protag would suit the fan base.  many gta fans have been playing the series since the 90's.  many will be middle aged themselves.  a mature teen who played gta iii when it came out will be knocking 30yrs old now.

r* are thinking of the fans.   cool.gif

Exactly. Rockstar said they wanted to make age-appropiate games. They said they know their fanbase is getting older as are they so that will be reflected in the games.

I like middle-aged but then again middle-aged guys can be brilliant. You guys have seen Goodfellas, Casino, The Sopranos? Loads of middle-aged crazy feckers in those films.

I played GTA since I'm 6 years old. THINK ABOUT ME PLEASE!

I started playing at 7, but I can still appreciate a middle aged protag. with wisdom over some young thug who looks 'cool' (and I'm still not clear on what people mean by a 'cool' protag.).

There will be no difference in the protag's physical abilities so I don't see the big deal.

I'm tired of you and your affection for this f*cking stereotype. I'm tired of these bullsh*t ass greaseball GTA characters. If we were going play as a white guy, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't make him look like those annoying ass LCS, Vice City, and III assholes, so stop with your f*cking stupid ass soprano bullsh*t, your f*cking stupid ass Breaking Bad bullsh*t, and your retarded ass Heat bullsh*t. None of it should be relevant. I'm not saying we should go back to gangbanging, but I am most definitely tired of you and your sh*tty stereotype trailer idol. Go back and play VC if you and your buddies want a "Tommy Vercetti" protag, you ignorant bastards.

From the balcony scene he looked a lot more heavey and he didn't carry himself well, sort of hunched over. But you're picture is right, more in shape than I thought. But at the end of the day, a 50 year old may not run as fast as a 20 something ghetto raised kid.

The guy carrying a silenced AK47 [or something] looks more in shape though than Ned.

Yeah almost as if he was leaning over the Balcony looking over it.

Then why don't you answer me? I am exposing the fact that the constant use of the mob stereotype is quite old, and yet, you don't acknowledge that. Why? Maybe because you're racist and you find the idea of playing a minority distasteful, but nevermind, I think it's pretty clear that you, along with everybody else who thinks the hispanic man is a gang member, are too ignorant to acknowledge someone with dark skin and short hair as intelligent, so I think I'm done here. And no sir, you eat a dick.

C to the J - I'm having a simple conversation with another board member - I don't need you to start posting internet meme's. If you have something to say - be respectful and act your age and join in the conversation. We have enough of the 12 year olds posting unnecessary things here.

Canttakemyid - His age just doesn't look consistant. Even his hair doesn't look as gray in the robbery scene you posted.

Yeah I even admit that was noob like of me, and I apologize like that, I rarely if ever do that.

Anyhow, I think Ned Luke (or his look alike in the game at lease) looks fit enough to me, and he dosen't seem much older than 40-45 tops in that balcony shot (I know the real Luke is in his 50's though but dosen't mean the protag will) which isn't that old, so he'd still be in good shape if he took care of his body well enough over his life time.

I can agree that the mafia protag is an exhausted idea. However, I have never once advocated a mafioso protag so I don't see what you're tryin to get at. I would like a minority protag (preferably college educated military veteran minority because that is certainly not an exhausted GTA protag idea).

Also, you can't really call me racist because you don't even know my race, nor have I ever reflected my personal view on other any race on here in the form of disparaging comments. You are desperately jumping to conclusions here.

I appreciate your apology, and respect you for that. I wish we had more members like you.

As for Ned Luke the character. His age depends on the age of his kids. I know some have said that they think one of the guys getting out of the van is his son. If so, he'd probably be around 50. To me, the team robbery really makes it seem like they are going to tie together all these 'band of thieves' and use each one to their advantage. Which I'd have no problem with, it may make the game more enjoyable. But with that said, Ned doing the missions in other games like SA wouldn't fit very well. The multi-protag thing is what I'm looking forward to.

I don't know, to me it sounded as if he didn't have any kids, as if he was going to settle down and have them, but he hadn't gotten there yet before sh*t hit the fan and he had to go back into crime.

Though if one of those people in the van scene is his son, then he'd easily be in his 50s, seeing as the other two men with him look to be at least 20-25 easily.

I guess it’s open for interpretation then, so he could be anywhere from 40-50 something at this point.

Possibly, it is quite vague. GTA V's trailers seems to be to most vague of all the first GTA trailers that I remember.

If he's the protagonist then he's going to be awesome to play as. I've said this before, but I find older protagonists more interesting as they're usually a lot wiser and less likely to be someone's whipping boy (aka CJ).

I get a lot of Tommy's vibe about him and everyone knows Tommy was ruthless with his decision making and refused to be a bitch.

He seems like a leader and someone with ambition.

This I like!

He's not that old really. I think he's just a bit older than Max Payne.
And nobody seems to dislike Max for his age.

I think he might be a very great character.

just want a young dude, don't know why people would be ok with an old dude when they can have a young dude like tommy. and niko wasn't old so i dont know why people keep saying he's old

I'm not fussed about his physical attributes. Johnny would have to be the most unfit protagonist to date with his limp yet it didnt't affect TLAD and he could still run and jump things to a degree.

As long as he (Ned Luke) can point, aim and shoot and move around in the heat of battle that's all I want. He doesn't need to be an olympic track star IMO.

No problem with the age at all. Some of my favorite actors working today are relatively old. I'm not that familiar with his work thought. People's assumption that he's playing the protagonist is mildly irritating to me as there's no evidence to support it.

I'm sure he's talented though so I have nothing against the idea of him doing the voice.

A middleaged protag would add some realism to the franchise, since i didn't found CJs success trustworthy (because of his age).

Btw, Niko wasn't that extremely young either, probably in the mid 30's, towards 40.
