Hello all. Now I know what some of you are thinking "IT ARE A NEW MYTH THREAD RANT RANT RANT". So before you start your rant. Hear this out. So I know that the whole myths of GTA 4 are dying as GTA 5 looms close on the horizon. I have made this thread to re-inspire people to go out looking for myths once more. So I will make a log of each what I would call mainstream myths and add evidence people find from going on investigations to add to the list. This is basically a place to talk about investigations and find other people who like to find myths from going on daily and weekly investigations by themselves or with others. Now the last order of business. The Investigation log, a list of how many investigations that have been done along with evidence collected. Basically if you have something to add you put it into a format like so and I will put it in the log:

EXAMPLE Format
myth (insert name of myth here)
Description (insert description of investigation here)
Evidence (enter an evidence here)

(Please keep it in this format, no "Myth Busted" or such. We are gathering evidence about these locations, not proving or disproving the myths.)

Names of myths with their investigation logs:
Total investigations: 26
Total myths: 11

Myth Investigators
In order to give recognition to those who actively go out in the field to investigate myths, and gather evidence, I have made a list of the myth investigators who have contributed to the thread by adding investigation reports. Names that are Gold have made significant contributions to the thread.

CrowBarZ , AlexGTAGamer , Dr-Mayhem111 , BirdieBeater , MikeMyth, Jasper Petrol, GTASAIDEAMASTER, GTAMythsexplained

Count me in, could be an interesting distraction while I work up the courage to play the second to last, and some might argue, terminal mission of The Ballard of Gay Tony ... just that one to run and I've finished all three games in GTA-IV for the fifth time this year. I'll take a poke around the places mentioned, but to be honest, I reckon the ratman is a myth, but if he does exist, it certainly explains all the missing loose change and the sudden increase in the cost of burgers and dogs closeby Middle Park. * UPDATE * My god, miracles do happen! I actually did Party's Over this afternoon, and in my first attempt survived it -- so will be reworking my guide to surviving the episode when I get a chance, using video taken during the game to demonstrate the best tactics for taking out the Russian hit squad and then walking out of there a smiling muther.

Well I am going to add the first investigation report to put in the log.

"Haunted Sprunk Factory"
I arrived at the Sprunk factory in my landstalker at 19:00. It was getting dark so I decided to do a quick lookaround of the building. I was doing the standard full night investigation (20:00-5:00) and was having no luck around the entire factory. I did hear the bouncers from honkers but paid no attention. It was around 3:00 when I went outside to investigate. Standing near the front of the factory in a little alleyway between the part of the factories you can and can't enter. I went idle and started to listen for any noises, I was loosing hope until I heard a loud crash, like a mix between a oil drum falling and a car crash. It immediatley got my attention. Thinking it was cars around the factory. I went back inside the factory to the second floor and I heard the noise once more and was just as loud. I walked around some more with the 30 [game] minutes I still had and left, satisfied with my findings.
Evidence: 2 distinct loud bangs

Count me in on this topic, I have developed a penchant for Myth Hunting over the last past months. Also this is the only Myth Hunting/Investigation topic I've ever seen that has been presented in an orderly manner, not just "OMG I found Ratman!!! nervous.gif " or "Knw any knew myths?"

You get where I'm coming from.

I must warn you though that I will investigate these myths in order that they have been laid out. So first would be Ratman, the Liberty City Whale and so on. (Also there are myths here that I've never heard of before, like the growler on Happiness Island or the creature in the Westdyke woods).

But before I start I'd like to include two more myths that I've ran into:
- A growling noise on the Beachwood City beach.
- A strange ice cream truck chime/songs playing around Funland at night.

I will return after I have investigated the first myth. cool.gif

By the way you don't have to investigate each myth only once. You can keep going back to them if you feel like it. andhoping to see some investigation reports soon. I cannot do an investigation tonight but next week I will be able to do a multiple person investigation everyday. But I will have to soon go back to in activity for two months. So if you have an xbox360 and want to do an investigation add my GT "AceOfSpades996" and send me a message regarding it. That's it for now!

obviously you don't know why some of us investigate myths. Whether myths are real or not it is about the hunt. Myths may not be true but it is fun to investigate them anyways. So that's why we myth investigators do what we do.

Indeed, CrowBarZ, although some of these 'myths' are invented by the community to explain away glitches, bugs or oddities of programming in games (not just in GTA-IV) there is evidence to suggest that from time to time a game engine has elements added to it by the programmers just to make it more interesting. These are often "undocumented" which sometimes prove to be real, or sometimes can only be reproduced under certain conditions or when a player accidentally (or intentionally) interacts with the game engine in a specific way which sets off a sub-routine which in turn generates the appropriate response.

The point is, myths of this nature, what I like to call GHOSTS IN THE MACHINE are sometimes a fiction created to generate interest in a product; sometimes they are real but elusive and sometimes they do not exist at all but rumors persist which makes people think that they are real, or maybe they want them to be real so badly that ... well, the rest is really open to interpretation. But in the case of the myth is outlined at the beginning of this most excellent thread, there is every possibility that they may well be real ... so let's be bad guys and along the way see if one of us can bring back a photograph of the elusive ratman.

Sorry everyone for not getting up my report sooner. So, here it is.

"Creature in Westdyke woods"
I drove up in my black landstalker to the abandoned house in the woods around 18:00 to look around a little bit to find out the full entirety of the Westdyke woods. I waited until the sun went down to start my investigation. I was plan to have this as a standard investigation as usual so it was going to be a long night. I looked around the house and garage and saw nothing. I go back towards the dirt roads and I spot what looks like movement so I rush over to investigate the main part of the woods. Walking around there is actually kind of creepy. I make it to the fence line and I turn around to find that I think I saw movement again so I rushed back toward it. By the way, it looks like a black silhouette is jogging in the bushes when I say movement. Anyways I find nothing again and I find my precious landstalker was gone. So I took a Sultan RS and pulled around and broke the light and sat there and watched for anymore movement. I didn't notice any more movement and the sun was rising so I left in the sultan RS and found a pure black Patriot with no exaughst pipe {basically a black form of Playboy's patriot} and decided it was as good as the investigation vans (Black landcasters) and I went to the SH in alderney to sleep.
Evidence: No definitive evidence

Also I will be doing team investigations starting as early as tomorrow to investigate these myths and to share them with you. It will also produce more results and a better investigation. That's it for now!

Sorry it's taken me so long to write up a report but I had to build up the courage to do this first myth as it is a myth that has always given me a bit of a chill. So here is my report.

Myth name: "Ratman".

Investigators: AlexGTAGamer, Niko and two of Dwayne's boys in-game.

What happened: I drove a Habanero that I had taken after getting into a police chase after completing the Vigilante Most Wanted side missions over to the subway maintenance area by Grand Easton Terminal, and called up Dwayne to send over some backup as I never search the subways on my own as I get too creeped out down there.

Anyway it was early morning (well 9:00am in-game time) when me/Niko and Dwayne's backup entered the subway maintenance area, gun in hand, we were first met by three subway workers chatting by the enterance/exit, two of whom walked away after I broke up their conversation. We proceeded down into the lower parts of the maintenance area, still shotgun in hand, looking in every dark corner and every room, finding nothing, not even a subway worker.

When we came to the train tracks a train passed by and I fired one shot from my shotgun to see if anything would attack me, nothing. So we went back up to ground level, hopped into their car and drove to the nearest subway station to investigate the subway track interchange where all of the homeless people hang around in.

It was 12:00pm then and we were first met by three homeless people around a burning trashcan, one of who aproached Niko and asked him for some money, and I complyed. We carried on searching meeting three more homeless people who wanted money. Now the third one approached Niko and as soon as Niko stuck his hand into his pocket to give him some money, the homeless guy disappeared into thin air ( notify.gif ), another homeless man then walked up to Niko for money instantly.

The time was now 15:00pm and I was getting bored. I fired a single shot in this area to see again if anything would attack me, nothing again. Eventually Niko sent Dwayne's backup home and I left the subway.

Strange things that happened/were heard: A homeless man that disappeared into thin air infront of my very eyes, two times I heard a weird, high pitched squeak when I was standing next to three homeless people crowded around a burning trashcan (probably just the wheel screech from the passing trains).

Myth Confirmed/Plausible/Busted: Myth Busted.

Hey guys and gals I am back to report another myth investigation but only this time I had a friend.
Myths: Ratman/Haunted abandoned hospital
Me and my friend "The Family Guy 123" decided to check out the abandoned hospital for our search. We got there a bit early, around 17:00. We showed up in a black admiral (sadly we couldn't find any landstalkers) and did a little day search of the building to see how many rooms and such. After nightfall came we took a look around we looked and looked around the bottom floor of the building and found nothing out of the ordinary. Though my partner did blow himself up after reportedly seeing a shadow run across one of the back rooms. We stayed until 3:00 which was unusual for me. We still did find anything except what he said was a shadow figure run across on of the back rooms. I will have to do a follow-up investigation later on the building to see what other evidence I can find. The figure backed up the claims of shadows moving around in the building. I did not tell him about the claims either.
Evidence: A shadow figure

Also as an endnote thank you AlexGTAGamer for your imput to the thread and your name has now been underlined. I would love to see more investigations from all of you soon. and Dr-Mayhem I have put this myth into the database for my fellow investigators to investigate. And do you want to be put into the active investigators list? Thank you all for your imput....thanks.

Investigation of the Growler of Happiness Island, Liberty City
I had agreed to investigate the long held myth that a growler lurked amongst the trees on Happiness Island. I wanted to take a growler expert on the trip but they are not easy to find so instead took my cousin, Roman. He is a bit of a coward but agreed under the pretence that we were really visiting a strip club. We arrived on the island by helicopter at 22:15. The rain lashed down against us as we began our search for the mythical growler. The first oddity, noticed by Roman, the number of tourist on the Island at such a late hour. Perhaps they were also trying to gather evidence of the growler! A thick fog descended upon the entire island. If there were to be anywhere for a growler to hide in Liberty City this would be the ideal place.

Roman suggested that when searching for a growler you should always go south. This is where we began the investigation. Roman accidentally bumped into one of the tourist whilst we were looking around the island. She accused him of pushing her and feeling her bottom. It all seemed to be a misunderstanding but you never know with Roman. The rain stopped and the fog cleared to reveal a bright star lit sky. We must have covered every inch of the island, looking around the buildings and the jagged rocks. We saw nothing of interest.

Some individuals on the island did not take kindly to being asked questions about growlers. When I asked this security guard if he thought the growler would be hairy or not, he seemed reluctant to answer. When Roman suggested that the security guard looked like a growler himself, a fight broke out between them. Luckily I had brought a growler detection device which helped settle the dispute.

After coming all this way, we were determined not to give up hope and decided to climb the base of the Statue of Happiness. During our tour of the monument a girl in a short skirt headed towards us on the stairs. Our hopes of seeing a growler were briefly re-kindled.
user posted image

At the top of the monument there were no signs of any ghouls or monsters. Roman seemed very pleased about this and asked if we could leave for the strip club. On the way back down, we found this Police Officer asleep next to a wall.
user posted image

Roman kept wittering about needing the toilet and not being able to go the strip club. Whilst he disappeared behind a tree to relieve his bladder, I spotted a lovers tiff between two lesbians taking place next to a hot dog stand. Certainly entertaining but it did nothing to dispel the myth that there is a growler on Happiness Island in Liberty City.

Myth - Investigated, no conclusive evidence!

Also checked game audio sfx folders - no growling found there either.

Dr-Mayhem111, if you are using the PC version of the game then find and install FRAPS on your machine - which has a handy snapshot feature which while the game is running allows you to save an image to a folder on your machine at the press of a key. If you are using a console, well, than I'm sorry that the only advice I can offer is a steady hand or tri-pod and a digital camera.

Hello and here is my next IP!

Myth Being Investigated: "Haunted Casino"

The Investigation
I rolled up to the old casino entrance with, of course, my black landstalker. I arrived around 17:00 and patiently wait inside until the sun set. I decided to idle and see what noises and such I might pick up. While going around every two game hours to inspect the top of the building. I sat idle most of the time facing niko away from the two story structure inside the casino while positioning the camera to face the structure, the main part of the myth has to do with a figure that supposedly walks around inside of it, not to be mistaken for the mysterious light on the second floor of it. The first time I did my sweep upstairs to the roof there was a creepy random hobo laying down in the middle of the floor, I quickly got him up and continued my search. Around 1:30 I was going up the stairs to the roof and all of a sudden I hear what sounds to be a woman talking. I tried to debunk it as someone frightened by me pointing the guns at hobos in the casino or just some random lady outside, and guess what? Nobody was outside and no body was in the building, remember I am not next to any doors except the one to the roof which is another floor above me. I honestly could not explain the weird woman talking. I continued with my investigation and had nothing else happen while I was there, and ended up killing a guy in a taxi. I will have to definitely have to do a follow-up investigation.

The Wrap-up
I heard an unexplainable woman's voice while exploring around. Oddly enough it was also when it was raining outside. It was also the standard (19:00 to 5:00) investigation so I don't think I overlooked anything. BUT before I put the womans voice as evidence for the myth being true.

Evidence: A woman's voice.

Hey guys,

I used to be really big on GTA IV myth hunting and I made a couple of videos on YouTube that garnered over 500,000+ views in total a while ago that you've probably watched:

Episode 1: Ghost of Sprunk Factory

Episode 2: Ratman Hunt

I'm sure you're also all aware of David186edgey who is a good friend of mine and created a video about growling near the beach in IV.

Now, I will always be a myth hunter in GTA games. Hell, I even still believe that there has to be something in the woods of San Andreas, but I just want to explain to you my myths as they're still, even today, causing myth hunts and believers.

Episode 1: Behind the Scenes

Episode 1, the ghost was in fact all real. Nothing was faked or intentionally done.
The reason why it's structured the way it is was because my friend who joined me in myth hunting back in San Andreas didn't own a next-gen console at the time and wanted to see some myths in GTA IV...so I tried to make it like a documentary or a video log. That's why there's a Day investigation, and night investigation.

When I recorded it, I played on full volume, alone in my basement in the dark, so I was already scared beyond belief. When I heard the car blow up, I ran as fast as I could to leave. What you see after that was me freaking out as I didn't know what caused it.

People say it was a flaming barrel but that's easily disproven in my opinion because of the fact that the barrel WASN'T moving when I exited the car.
Even if it was the barrel, SOMETHING had to have moved it.

Also, I can confirm it's the bouncer that says something and starts shooting at you, not a ghost icon14.gif .

Episode 2: Behind the Scenes

Episode 2 was my most controversial and I think it's the first time I'm admitting this.
After Episode 1 got me 100K views however much it was, I decided it was time to look for the famous Ratman.

I sh*t you not, I spent 2 hours in those goddamn subways exhausting every think I could to try to find at least a damn clue.
Nothing.
Ratman is not real

The video, not wanting to disappoint all of my new subscribers (and hits to my website), was thought of right before I was about to give up. I quickly ran upstairs, past the orange goop, threw a taxi driver out and made him follow me into the subways where I killed him in that spot with a shot gun.

Boom, I loaded up my capture device, did a little "investigation", found his body, and that's all!
This was almost given away by the fact that my capture card "died" midway through the video, and the fact that you can hear people screaming after my gun shots.

Sorry to disappoint, although, I do have a feeling that something is lurking in those subways moto_whistle.gif .

I no longer do GTA IV myth videos but I do plan on bringing them back for GTA V.
Especially since the addition to the new country side and mountains, who knows whats out there.

I also do plan on launching a website dedicated to myths similar to a social networking site and YouTube where users can create myth hunting groups, real or faked (depending how you sign up), and the one that earns the most points wins a special prize or something (depending on how big the site is).

I full on endorse GTA myths, even if they're real or not.
It's just fun to spend time looking and having your imagination go wild when you're in the countryside or in an abandoned factory.

Thanks for reading and I hope this contributed something to your thread!
Feel free to add the videos to your main post, OP!

- Nigel xD
aka Kreepman.

PS. If you want proof it's me, watch Episode 1 and read the description.
Also, watch my last video uploaded to the Kreepman account. I point you to my newest YouTube account "nigeleckzdee"

Thanks for your contribution Nigel. Out of my time looking on you tube I have actually seen those, and it is weird to know some one else has had weird experiences go on in the sprunk factory! If you want I can put your name on the active investigator list if you want to investigate some myths along with us. Just say so if you want your name on the list and good luck with your website!

I've been busy recently, so here are two myths that I have investigated. cool.gif

Myth name: "Liberty City Whale".

Investigators: AlexGTAGamer (on multiplayer), Niko (in singleplayer), Luis (TBOGT).

What happened: I'll start with Luis.
I had just taken the APC that Yusuf gives to you in TBOGT after shooting all seagulls in Liberty City and I drove over to Middle Park. I drove over the grassy hills and avoided hitting pedestrians whilst glancing at Middle Park Lake.

I noticed a small cliff that almost looked like a natural stunt jump that could send any vehicle into Middle Park Lake easily. So, I hit this natural stunt ramp and my APC landed in the lake. I was surprised that I was still able to drive the APC in the lake at first thinking that it was aquatical, but it turned out that the lake was just very shallow, so shallow that you could drive a truck or a bus around in the lake and not drown (I've put this to the test).

I later parked the APC on the small island in the lake and fired a few shots around the place to see if I could stir up trouble, nothing. I eventually drove back in and then out of the lake via a boat launch-ramp at the boathouse and left Middle Park.

That's it from Luis. The same has come back from investigating the lake in multiplayer.

Now to Niko.

After searching the lake in other games I thought I'd look at the waters of L.C. The first place I thought I saw a whale was in the waters by Beachwood City beach, but it was nothing more than the reflection of a plane flying overhead.

I'm no stranger to water in IV or the episodes and all of the other times I've been in the waters around L.C I've seen no whale or sea creature of any type.

Strange things that happened/were heard: N/A.

Myth Confirmed/Plausible/Busted: The waters of Middle Park Lake are too shallow for a whale to swim in, and the waters of L.C may be vast, but from the waters I've checked, nothing lives beneath the waves except dumped bodies thanks to the mafia.

Myth Busted.

Myth name: "Haunted Sprunk Factory".

Investigators: AlexGTAGamer, Niko, two of Dwayne's boys in-game.

What happened: I booted up IV on my PS3 and when it loaded it was 6:00am (in-game time). So, I took two naps to pass the time to 19:00pm (in-game time). I ran outside, hailed a cab, and got him to chauffeur me over to the old abandoned Sprunk Factory in Tudor.

I passed the time whilst I waited until 21:00pm (yes in-game time) by looking around the warrehouses and buildings of Tudor. When the time came, I phoned Dwayne to send over some of his boys. When they arrived, we entered the Sprunk Factory via the tunnel.

Carbine Rifle in hand we slowly made our way to the top floor. I heard a scream that scared the hell out of me, but it turned out to just be one of the boys who had fallen through a hole in the floor. We headed to the last room in the factory (the one by the glass windows that can be shot out) and I went idle to hear the sounds, nothing but the usual dripping pipes, sparking cables, running water from the ground floor burst water main, and the creaks of the building in the wind (amongst the sounds of the traffic outside). I fired a few shots around the place and the usual thing happened, the bouncer at Honkers down the road yelled out and ran to the factory to try and attack me, I put a bullet to his head.

Time passed by whilst wondering from room to room and the time eventually hit 3:00am, at that point Niko told the boys to go home so I left at the same time.

Strange things that happened/were heard: No sounds out of the ordinary, however at certain two seperate times the lighting went all blue in the factory and all green in the tunnel. Probably just a light render issue.

Myth Confirmed/Plausible/Busted: Myth Busted.

AlexGTAGamer, will you be investigating and finding Locations of interests too? The thread has had an update so I was just curious.

Also, I will have another Investigation report up in a couple of hours. As long as one more Locations of interests, so make sure you don't miss it! --- CrowBarZ

Here is One of the locations of interest. The facility at the right edge of Bohan. The one that Roman was kidnapped and held hostage in.

Of course I will, it'll give me more things to do in-game. cool.gif But i will finish my myth investigations first before I move onto places of interest.

Myth name: Half-sunken ship
Investigators: Dr-Mayhem111, Niko.

What happened: I decided to do what I always do in GTA and just randomly fly around LC and jump out into the waters. I managed to jump out and reach the waters near the ship, so started to swim towards it and made a change of plans. I began investigating at 09:30 pm and started with the front part, I found nothing and heard nothing for a while. I then made my way towards the back but I was interrupted by a scream that sounded near by, knowing that the ship is close to land I assume it was a random pedestrian. I heard the scream again at the same location, the middle part, so I decided to "chill" there for a while. Finally at 01:45 I heard a growl that got me scared, I further investigated this growl and found no evidence, exactly two minutes later I could have sworn I saw a man just standing at the far end of ship. I rushed over to him but he was gone when I got there and then I heard the scream again, it sounded near by again but this time it sounded like it was right in front of me. It was almost daytime and I wanted more evidence, the time was 05:50 and I shot one bullet at the location where the mysterious figure was then I heard footsteps coming towards me and then stopped, I tried to see if I can see this thing that was walking towards me but nothing. I left soon after that in my Annihilator, I stare at the ship as I flew away, what an experience. The myth still remains a mystery.

Strange things that happened/were heard: Three female screams, one growl, and footsteps.

Myth Confirmed/Plausible/Busted: I tried to debunk the screams but the growl and the footsteps were unexplainable. I want to return and see if I can get more activity.

Wow Dr-Mayhem, you just scared me with your investigation of the half-sunken ship. blush.gif

Last time I investigated there a homless man spontaneously combusted, I kid you not.

-EDIT-

Regarding the objective on MITSUB.

There are two ways to get into buildings with interiors in L.C. One way is to enter it in TBOGT multiplayer or you can enter it using a spawn vehicle glitch. For this glitch simply dial in a cheat code for any vehicle (cars, bikes or even the helicopter) and stand close to the front of the building or doorway, if done correctly your chosen vehicle should now be half in and half out of the front of the building/doorway. Now just jump at the vehicle or get in and it should glitch you inside of the building.

-EDIT 2-

If anyone wants me to re-investigate any myths, please don't be afraid to ask. If there is anything you want me to do in the re-investigation, do tell. cool.gif
