I replayed the V story... I said it before and I'm saying it again it really was not that good. There really was nothing to get you involved into the story, it was really all over the place. Most of all the antagonists (which is huge with GTA), it remained really unclear for a better part of the game who the antagonists were nor did they really come off as antagonists but rather douche bags we saw every now and then. We knew who the antagonist was in IV, it was perfectly clear that c*nt Demetri because that f*cker was hardcore, he swore blood vendetta out against Niko. Or Vice City with it being Sonny, that's an asshole who tried to have Tommy whacked but instead he went to prison for multiple murders (those of the hitmen out to get him) then sent down to VC to get whacked during a drug deal. In III it was first Leone (who you ice) but then the Cartel who is protecting Catalina (from SA) who betrayed you at the beginning. San Andreas it was Tenpenny (who was the primary) and a couple of secondaries such as Mike Torino and Big Smoke. With GTA V who are the antagonists? Devin Weston who is just a dickhead who wanted Franklin to kill Micheal, Steve Haynes who was just a tart making Micheal and the others do his dirty work with the threat of jail, Wai Cheng who really didn't play that big of a role at all but was just thrown in there near the end just so we'd have someone for Trevor to take out... and they also add in some hood ni**er we only see once called Stretch but that's only because he f*cked over Lamar who was also a really useless character that didn't impact the story at all.
Point being every other GTA has had a strong story that you could get involved with and characters that were good and well thought up plus an opposing force out to get the protagonist that played a pivotal role throughout the story... not just some ass who appears part way through the game and you do random sh*t for like in V.
There really wasn't all that much continuity in V either. Things that happened just kind of happened but with little to no affect or reason behind them and really had very little to do with the story.
