How the f*ck are you getting car meets already? I'm missing out.

First of the year. Was short sleeve weather even. If the rest of the winter is like this, I'll be extremely happy. f*ck the cold.

The talon was a piece of sh*t. I mean it was an AWD turbo TSI but it couldn't stay running to save its life. I'm guessing it had megasquirt or something and the owner couldn't get it set up right.

That's a damn shame, Talon's are probably my favorite AWD car and I can never find a good example around here. Sure they run great, but look like some 17 year old took a spray bomb to it.

The owner had to keep it around 4 grand for about 10 minutes straight til it was properly warmed up (and it was a warm 65 degree day). No car with EFI should be that temperamental.

Nice Cars!

Especially the fact that you live in a state/country where you don't need front license plates ! That can really f*ck up a cars design sometimes!

So here's some of the images from my couple days at the Canadian International Auto Show. I'll post a link to the gallery that has all of the decent photos I took in the last post.

Nice group of cars.

One question though, do you get to hear any of them? I've grown to dislike indoor car shows around here these days because you never get to hear them start or rev up.

I didn't which I was kinda bummed about. No doubt because of by-laws and regulations about emissions indoors and such, but I would have certainly risked my health to hear the Zonda R.

There was a Fisker Karma there too but I didn't get any good shots of it. Damn good looking thing that is though.

The Fisker looks ok, but beyond that (like a new Jag and Maserati hooked up), it seems pretty stupid. Not to mention incredibly heavy. A Bentley-like 5300 lbs. in a car that size is retarded. Just another reason why hybrids suck. Until you can get rid of the literal ton worth of batteries (like Porsche did with the GT3 Hybrid flywheel system), they'll always be overweight pigs.

I'd also never spend 6 figures on something with an engine from a cobalt (unless it was a fully carbon fibered-out Ariel Atom).

No, that's a 2002, but there was a 1600 there (with a 2002 motor, trans, and rear end swapped in) that I for some reason forgot to snap a photo of.

But I did get a pic of it at a show a few months back.

edit: found a better one from this show that someone else took.

I really like the late Sportspack models. Just a shame that 13" wheels take away from handling characteristics. The interior in that one looks especially gorgeous. With a big lottery win I think I'd buy a MK1 from the 60's, a Clubman (Possibly an estate/van) and one of the 2000/2001 models.

I don't understand, from the picture it looks like its in a pretty good condition..how come it can be so cheap...?

I've never really been to a car show but is it normal for people to be selling their cars there?

I'm really not big on the late minis like that. It's like they did away with every little quircky mini trademark trying to modernize it and made it a bit souless. The 13's just look like dubs on a mini. And seems just overly heavy packed full of electronics and safety equipment (airbags. wtf?). I didn't even hear this thing leave it was so quiet.

I was much more into the buzzy little early mark 3 there. Still had the sidemount rad, carbs, 10x5 minilites, etc. cool.gif

That being said, I probably wouldn't mind an ERA turbo engine shoehorned into a mark 1 or 2.

Speaking of turbos, found out that 308 GTSi is as well. Just all stealthy hidden.

A lot of that was done in the 70's and 80's (External door hinges, sliding windows, centre binnacles, 10" to 12" wheels) when they were still marketing it as a cheap everyday car. By the 90's it was just sold as a style icon. The airbags, ECU, quieter engine etc were all done to meet boring health and safety and emissions laws. 13" wheels do look oversized for the car though.

I'm not sure on how common Mini's are over in the US. I'm guessing not very (Aren't there strict import laws based on age?). That MK3 you liked is quite a common sight over here. Quite often I'll see four or five 80's Minis a day over here (Usually in the same rough looking condition as the one you've photographed tounge.gif). As standard cars I see the 80's models as probably the most dull looking ones. Especially when they introduced plastic grilles and things.

I'm not really sure what the regs are over here on minis. That blue one is a 99 which is by far the newest Mini I've ever seen in person. Then you see various Mark I, II, III, and IV's and various clubman and traveller versions of them. Probably some V's and VI's as well. But they're all fairly rare and most were specially imported. There's probably a good 2 or 3 dozen in Knoxville though so they're probably the most common grey import car around here. Possibly more Minis in Knoxville than E28's. The local Mini clubs typically does rallies, mountain runs, and cruises and I've randomly spotted them doing so several times.

The Delorean was seriously mint. Also, according to the owner, it was all original aside from a new dashpad. He even went on a Gap run after the show.

The Renault V6 sounded pretty bad though to be honest. That's one thing I would not have left stock if I had it. Would have at least ditched the cats and crammed some decent mufflers in there.

That right there is a thing of beauty for me. And it did? Imagine it had a hard time keeping up with all those light, adequately powered cars. tounge.gif

Heard he ran at the back and had cooling issues. Sounds about like any 70's-80's water-cooled rear-engined car.
