@ ddyoung

No worries mate.

I figured if we couldn't spot it on street-view, then there wasn't much chance of seeing it in person.

Thanks for looking anyway mate, & I hope you enjoyed your holiday.

@ Mr.Killa

Cheers mate.  Yeah, only a couple more to go.

I found another 2 IRL buildings last night.  They're used 3 times in Downtown & once in Vinewood.  I'll post them later today.

There are also 2 or 3 medium sized Downtown buildings that aren't on the map at all, so I'll try to get some IG pics of them & add them to the unidentified map.

This building is used twice in Downtown.

Once as a corner office building with shops below & once as an apartment building which has been modified in shape but still has the same features.

Real life.  Office building & shops, 1060 S Broadway, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Office Building & shops, Strawberry Ave & San Andreas Ave, Downtown.

In game 2.  Apartment building, Vespucci Blvd, Downtown.

We're getting really close in terms of all the downtown finds, but here are some specific finds from Pershing Square I found today (Legion Square in GTA V):

Shallow Pond:

Purple Tower:

Purple Windows:

Should we add any of these to the map?

Nice work by everyone, but am I the only one that feels slightly saddened by the fact that R* focused so much on recreating this stuff, its impressive and all but its also a huge Misuse of time imo and completely un-needed.

I just think it is one of those things about GTA4 and GTA5 that make them feel as though they are lacking something - they dont have the love/magic anymore.

The environment while very impressive feels boring and lacking in someway. - Kinda like a game that have brilliant graphics/small details but isnt very fun.

Like GTA SA Los Santos is a pritty good recreation of LA but it is fairly loose in its recreation, each building isnt exact same as real life but it has a strong LA vibe.

I think it is better to just get a general feel of the place - not worry about recreating buildings and focus more on making the environment play as good as it can - have a good layout/map, cool places to go and do stuff etc... while still keeping the LA feel.

Like for me personally Vice City is my fav - the city just feels right, has a good fibe and is fun - they did this in 9 months.

Now say GTA6 is VC again and they follow the same path as GTA4 and GTA5 with the recreating buildings to make it as close to real as possible - First off it will take ages to do and I think it will also be missing the magic.

It just seems like R* are doing it just for the sake of it being as real as possible and are not focusing on making it fun as much anymore.

@ Blennerville

Yeah, I get what you're saying & sort of agree, but the map & building details would be done by the map designers & artists.  I think they've done an outstanding job.

The magic probably needs to come from the mission designers & script writers.  They should've made better use of the map that was created for them.

I don't think moving resources from the artists to the writers would improve things that much tbh.

I think the old GTA magic comes from the fact that the games used to be new, exciting & mind-blowing back then.

We've all played dozens of similar style, open world games since then, & quite frankly they're all pretty similar in their concept.  I think that's why the magic is probably missing.

New find.

Real life.  MIJU Textiles (formerly), 1360 E 15th St, Los Angeles.

In game.  TGSA Textile Gallery, Little Bighorn Ave, Downtown.

In terms of the tram station at the top of Mount Chiliad, this was the clearest image I could find of the real-life version:

upper%20tram%20station.jpg

Comparing it to the in-game version, it seems rockstar only put the top of it in the game, and left out the rest.

I think I've found one of the stages at the Movie Studio, because of the roof and the Xes next to the doors.

We're (obviously) done with mapping out what the map will be like, so now we're mapping out the real life equivilants to nearly every building in San Andreas.

this thread is amazing

i had no idea so much was real

but i can see now the proof about how Rockstar said they spent 100 days or more actually mapping out and photographing all over LA area starting around 2009 or 2010 through to 2013.

When looking around the Vinewood Sign, I found a water tank next to it, so I looked around google maps, and found this:

@ edwardjeria

Do you need in-game or real life images, or both?

I've just updated most of the Vinewood Blvd images, so it's no hassle for me to post them here.

@ Harryhenry

I've added the water tank, but not the studio sound stages.

I just had a quick look & there are a couple other stages that look like they could be a better match.

You probably need to use Trevor & get in a chopper or the blimp to get some good aerial shots so we can compare to IRL.

I can't access the PS3 atm, so it's up to you mate.   :^:

@ Fido

When I was updating the Vinewood Blvd images, I noticed the Miss T building & the Whirligig Theatre didn't seem to match IRL.

Not sure if you've put the wrong pics & address in, or maybe I'm just missing something.

There was also this missing building next to the Wax Museum.

It's probably just an oversight, but I can't remember if it was ever posted or not, so here it is anyway.

Real life.  City Breads Bakery, 6759 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles.

In game.  24/7 Supermarket, Vinewood Blvd, Vinewood.

yVdP9TH.png

AC2WWeN.jpg

EDIT.

I've also added Clappers/Cinegrill.

Even though it's part of the Roosevelt Hotel complex, it probably deserves it's own coloured dot on the map.   :)

I don't really remember about the Whirligig building. I think we found it back in the day, when we only had a few stills from trailer 2.

I guess we forgot about it when we moved on to other buildings.

It's true that they're not that alike but at least the top of the windows match :D

Maybe there's another one that's better. I'll have a quick look later.

Yeah, the top of those windows are spot on.

It seems like the IG building has the Security Pacific top windows with the El Capitan Theatre entrance & sign.

However, the main part of the building & the street level section might actually come from another 1 or even 2 different IRL buildings.

That building will probably have 3 or 4 coloured dots on it by the time we're finished with it.

Any idea what the Miss T building is based on?

It sort of looks similar to the Doppler/Pacific Theatre building but with a different street level.

This building was marked as unidentified on the map, but I'm pretty sure someone (maybe MrThingus) pointed it out a few months ago.
It has no name in the game but I labelled it as the LSPD Motor Transport Division because that's what it is IRL & it's right next to the LSPD Station in Downtown.

Does anyone know whether Blaine County leads to San Fierro or Las Venturas? Because in real life, I don't see any resemblance of Blaine County / Alamo Sea in between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. I usually take the 15 and 2-15 to get there.

Here are the buildings on the North side of Vinewood Blvd.  (I'll do the South side tomorrow)

I already had pics of the IRL buildings, so I've posted them as well, just in case you need them.   ;)
