Fido, the map in general is working fine for me too, but for some reason it's not loading the new images I'm trying to put in.

I just remember the other day you thought lxr or I were messing around with the map while you were trying to add images too.

There's a couple of finds without images now, but I'll fix them up again soon.

About the older street-view images.  I've been playing around with it for a bit.  It's really handy.

When you select a year for the older images, it displays it in a little inset while still keeping the current image on the main screen.

Like this.

lv5qEuB.png

The cool thing is, when you scroll along the street, the little inset scrolls along with you.

So when you come up to a newish looking building or a construction site, you simply glance up at the inset to see what was there before.

Also good for when there's a friggin bus or truck in the way of that perfect shot.

I'm going around now trying to spot some older buildings.  You never know.

BTW, Purple = Restaurant  :p

Edit.  @ Harry.

What Fido said is right.  Most of the IG streets are made up from several IRL ones, or they might start off as one IRL street but end up as a completely different one at the other end.  It'll start getting too complicated & messy.

I agree about the colour legend on the map though.  A few people have asked about it.

Lxr will have to sort that out though, but we haven't seen him for a while.  Probably sitting on a beach somewhere with his feet up.

Yeah I tried the new streetview earlier this morning and it is truly great!
Now if only Google could put Birds eye view back in the new Maps, that would be perfect.

^^ Hit this little button here.

It's sort of an active version of Birds-Eye View.  Things tilt & move as you scroll past.

Not sure if it works in all the same areas as the older version though.

EDIT.

A couple months ago I posted this find from Chumash/Malibu.

Even though their was a bit of doubt about the right hand part of the building looking a bit different to IG, we were pretty sure it was the right one.

1sWLSvq.png

Sometime prior to 2011, the building looked exactly like the IG one.

This is what it looked like when Rockstar went through Malibu on their recon trip.

As a bonus, it used to be Spic & Span Cleaners instead of No Marks Cleaners.

Check out the older street-view image.

EaeOAnz.png

smw55rJ.jpg

I'm loving the new Google Maps features.

I seriously think it will help us make a few new finds.  Just wish it ran as quick as the old version.

Here are some specific parts of the Abandoned Motel in Blaine County:

The Swimming Pool:

94_1Salton_Sea_7.jpg

The Sign (Sorry for the watermark in the RL lmage):

0_0.jpg

39f488f810b44f9fa8c8b16718822d7e.jpg

Also, whilst looking around google images, I found this image at this address, which looks very similar to a small building right next to the motel:

58825403.jpg

0_0.jpg

There are some differences, but it does look very similar, right down to the area surrounding it.

Btw, with all the pictures I'm taking, I'm thinking of deleting some of the images. But I'm not sure if I should, because I'm not sure how the grandtheftdata site uses images.

Nice work.

Always good to add some details to the interactive map.

I think Wayne found that abandonned structure a while back though. Maybe he forgot to add it to the map ;)

The one he found was in a different place on the map. I think the one I found is a slightly altered (specificaly at the left windows) duplicate of the same building. And he did add the other version of the building. (The one at the shore of the Alamo Sea.)

@ Harry.

Yeah I think it's a duplicate of the abandoned bait shop next to the yacht club.

I'll put it on the map.   :^:

About deleting images.  Are you talking about deleting them from your hosting site like Imgur?

If so, then they'll disappear from this thread once you delete them.

You might have to sign up to some other hosting sites or pay for one of the premium packages your site offers.

Here are a few more details from Del Perro & Vespucci Beach.

Shade umbrellas.

0LKaYYa.png

kV2lpnb.png

There is a 4th set of these umbrellas in the game, near the Vespucci Beach police station, but it's a playground IRL.

The playground looks fairly new, so it's possible there used to be a set of umbrellas there a few years ago.  I can't find any pics of them though.

Bike path tunnel under the pier.

q75ZB93.png

Graffiti boat.  I believe the boat was removed a few years ago so I don't know the IRL address.

Judging by the buildings in the background of some photos, it looks like it used to be in a similar spot to IG.

hi guys, sorry for disappearing, back and disappear again, but it's been busy in the editing of the buildings that you find in gtaenclopedia, which is why they ask, it's like wikipedia but on gta and Spanish, and I just started writing information about the buildings you are. I would like to return to the old days of searching buildings but I think I'm not competitive, I wish you luck.

fido and wayne: greetings, you are amazing  .
Harryhenry: good photos, you have motivation, kid

ps: it would be too much to ask to recognize buildings by those who discovered it, but idk if I think it would explain jenial see our names and we discovered buildings

Hey Edward.  Good to see you back.  Great work on the GTAencyclopedia.   :cookie:  :cookie:  :cookie:

It's ok.  I don't think it's necessary to credit the people who found the buildings.  Too much work to worry about that.

Can't quite remember, but I think someone might've mentioned this roller a few months ago.

Real life.  "Walk On L.A." sculpture by Carl Cheng, 1988.

In game.  Beach roller, Del Perro Beach, Del Perro.

Not sure if this one has been mentioned before, sorry if it has.

In fact, I only noticed this for the first time the other day when I crashed into it.

At first I thought it was just a pile of building material from the beach maintenance depot nearby.

Real life.  "Ocean Park Segue" sculpture by Joyce Kohl, 1988.  (There's two of them IRL)

In game.  Beach sculpture, Del Perro Beach, Del Perro.

@ LowiPL & one55

I agree 100%.

A lot of people complain about certain issues with the map, like not enough interiors, too much wasted space or no reason to visit certain areas.

They're all valid complaints but they're also very subjective, but surely nobody can complain about the attention to detail Rockstar have put into the landmarks & buildings.

It's pretty staggering when you think about all the thousands of little details.

New find!

This one was trying really hard not to be found.

It's possible to see every detail from street-view, but not in the same image because of all the trees.

Also, the front entrance is located at the back of the IG building.

Real life.  Apartment building, 305 San Vincente Blvd, Santa Monica.

In game.  Apartment building, Cougar Ave & Prosperity St, Del Perro.

Hi all, great finds here!   :^: :^: :^:  Especially the buildings around LSC, and the sculptures on the beach (I had never seen them either).

And a few reminders regarding the interactive map:

- To find out what the colors mean, move your mouse over the colored icons in the list of landmarks, on the right side of the screen.

- To deal with addresses that Google Maps doesn't understand, you can write "Address [Address for Google Maps]". For example "United Independent Taxi, 900 N Alvarado St, Los Angeles [900 N Alvarado St, Los Angeles]" or "Ferris Wheel, Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica [34.008331,-118.497841]".

- Once you have added an screenshot or photo, you can delete it from its original source (Imgur, Snapmatic etc.) -- it will stay on the map.

- This helps with managing Snapmatic photos, especially with making backups before deleting pictures from your gallery.

Hey stranger.  Welcome back.

That's a handy tip about the Google address.  I didn't know you could do that.

I'll go into the map over the next few days & update the addresses that need it.   :^:

Nope.  Just you & me.

I keep checking a few times a day to see if anybody has found anything, but pickings are slim out there.

We've found most of the easy & obvious ones, so the remaining hard ones are going to be slow going.

Haven't done alot of searching as I've been fairly busy with work lately, but managed to stumble across 3 new IRL finds that match 5 IG buildings in the last couple of days.

Haven't had a chance to put all the pics together yet, but I'll try to get them up later on today or tomorrow.

Edit.

Also, I haven't updated any of the google addresses on the map yet.

I'll just slowly get to them over the next couple of weeks or so.

I love all the little details in this one.

The vents under the window, the spiral detail either side of the door, the darker paint on the lower half etc.

Real life.  Empty store, 1010 S Olive St, Los Angeles.

In game.  Empty store, Sinner St, Downtown.

Edit.

@ MightyMax

We might get around to putting the higher res/next gen pictures on the map.

That'll be a lot of work though & we'll probably still be too busy looking for the unidentified buildings.

This building was marked as unidentified on the map, but I'm pretty sure someone (maybe MrThingus) pointed it out a few months ago.

It has no name in the game but I labelled it as the LSPD Motor Transport Division because that's what it is IRL & it's right next to the LSPD Station in Downtown.

Every building that we've found in the seedy section of Vinewood is a duplicate of another IG building that's located in the correct place.

This one is a bit out of place because it comes from the Fashion District of LA, but I can't remember seeing it anywhere else in the game.

Real life.  Via Metro Importers, 201 E 12th St, Los Angeles.

In game.  F.T. Pawn Shop, Clinton Ave & Power St, Vinewood.

This one was a bit tricky because it's on two different streets, just like in the game, but it's not actually on the corner.

The lofts building basically surrounds the old Farmers & Merchants National Bank.
