Excellent find!  :^:

And yes, no worries, still here!  :colgate: I've been busy adding lots of missing photos... almost all unidentified landmarks have screenshots now!

To see all landmarks, select that option from the menu at the top left. To sort by screenshot / no screenshot, click on the square symbol in the head of that column, at the top right.

EDIT: In other news, R* changed something on their Social Club login page, which temporarily broke the Snapmatic Backup Utility... but it's fixed now.

I'm still here! Currently doing what a previous user did with the Movie Studio (Looking for more specific points of the structure they put in the game), except with the Rockford Plaza.

You guys are so amazing at this. How are you finding the real life counterparts? I'm assuming by google earth or something, but are you just scrolling along the city until you find something you might have seen in GTA V?

Damn Rockstar. The amount of detail to make it look just like California is awesome. You guys on this thread have a good eye pointing out things like this.

Finally I've come to the conclusion that Tinsel Towers is just a smaller version of Sierra Tower... :)

@ lxr

Great work putting the remaining buildings on the map.

I got my laptop back the other week & it still had photos of all the Sth LS house.

I've been a slack bastard & couldn't be bothered putting them on the map.

Now I feel really bad because you've gone ahead & done it.

I agree with Tinsel Towers being a smaller version of Sierra Towers.

We've all had a pretty good look for it IRL, but there just isn't any other building that it could be.

If the front entry matches IRL, then surely it's gotta be a match.

@ Harryhenry

Excellent stuff.   :^:  :^:  :^:

I suppose we sometimes forget that some of the larger finds consist of lots of smaller finds.

Those smaller finds tend to get overlooked when we add the bigger building to the map.

You've inspired me to do a similar comparison from Mirror Park Lake.  I'll post it later on today.

@ polaris23

Yes....that's basically what we do.

The rural areas can be scanned from the satellite images, then when you see something interesting or a cluster of buildings, you just zoom into street-view & scroll along.

Some large buildings in the suburbs can be found from the satellite images as well, but the smaller shops & houses need to be done from street-view.

It also helps to do a quick Google image search.  You sometimes get lucky & get a result on the first page.

The hardest part is finding the time & motivation to keep looking.

Wayne Kerr, I assumed as much. But what I was really asking was, how do you know when you've found a building/landmark that is also in GTA V? Do you just remember them or are you driving around the game too? I ask because some of the finds are of amazingly mundane, generic buildings in the game which I often just drive by, yet you guys do such a great job at finding whatever real life building its based on.
Really impressive.

We've been doing this for a long time so we know almost everything about the game and its setting.
But really, I believe each of us has ingame pics of various buildings, houses, shops... on our computers. Then we just look for them in Google Earth/Street View.
There's also the interactive map where almost every building in GTA V has an ingame image attached to it.
Then we look in the supposedly correct neighborhood in LA to find the building that inspired it.
Works most of the time but it requires patience... Lots of it!

@ polaris23

Yep, pretty much what Fido said.

I'm not sure about the other guys, but I've got hundreds of in-game pics plus thousands of IRL pics on my hard drive.

If I see something IRL that looks familiar, I go through the in-game pics to either eliminate it or hopefully find a match.

There are dozens of misses for every hit though.

As time goes on, there are less & less IG buildings to find, so it's getting a little bit easier to remember them, but harder & harder to find them.

Taking Snapmatic pics is one of the best ways to get familiar with the IG buildings.  You see little details that you'd normally miss when driving past at 100mph with the cops on your tail.

Here's the Mirror Park Lake comparison with Echo Park Lake.  There's some nice little matching details that R* included.

Real life.  Underwood Family Farms, 5696 East Los Angeles Ave, Somis CA.

In game 2.  White Water Activity Center, Tongva Dr, Tongva Valley.

That building seems to be the source for the classic Up N Atom (same windows on the side), never noticed that. I guess I was wrong about it being based of the gas station across the old McDonald's. Still proves my point that they added the Glenn's 50s diner sign to a random building though.

When I first read your post, I thought you'd finally lost the plot, but you're absolutely right.

The Retro Rocket Diner is definitely based on the Underwood Family Farms building.  Really well spotted.   :cookie:  :cookie:  :cookie:

If the Alamo Fruit Market wasn't in the game, I don't think we'd ever match the diner to the Underwood Farm.

The rocket diner is the top pic in the following images.

mMFPeo8.png

S7fSUuD.png

They even used the same shed out the back.

fic129L.png

The retro diner was shown a few times in the trailers & is such a well known & iconic looking building that I felt it deserved it's own IRL counterpart.

I'm happy & relieved that we finally found it, but I've gotta say I'm pretty disappointed that it's just a mashed up version of another IG building with a copy of a fake 50's diner sign from the Philippines.

At least that's two mysteries solved in the last couple of days though, Tinsel Towers & the diner.

Bonus find! When I was looking around the Los Angeles Country Club, trying to find more specific points, I found right next to it two sets of tennis courts:

Which look very similar to these tennis courts, not far from the golf course:

Great work on the Beverley Centre again Harryhenry.   :^:  :^:  :^:

The tennis courts belong to the Los Angeles Tennis Club on Clinton St. (just off Melrose Ave)

I'm pretty sure the club has been identified already but it's not on the interactive map for some reason.

Hey guys, I think the small park in Little Seoul is based on Lafayette Recreation Center in Wilshire :

D4098DDBFED03A79675C72F35EB52AF77DAB0C5C

14458471794_a46b99306d_z.jpg

Two basketball courts, a big building next to it, the pathway kinda look the same, location on par with real life...

What do you think ?

Also, I added the Tennis Club to the map ;)

And that residential building near the Hilton is also there IRL.

same for the building near the Archipelago/Peninsula Hotel. I'll add them later.

That's a new find Wayne ;)

Wow.  Really?

I just thought it was common knowledge it was the LA Tennis Club.

Can't find the post, but I think someone did mention it back when the game was released.  Could be thinking of something else though.

Wish they were all that easy.

Regarding the park.  It's hard to say.

Can you get any images of the toilet blocks or any other IRL features?

That would help confirm it or not.  It does look very similar though.

Edit.

New Find.  Sorry for the long post.

The IG store has windows down the side & a rounded off corner.  The IRL store was also re-painted in the darker colour earlier this year.

From the older satellite images, you can see that the IRL store & sign used to be the same colour as the IG one.

Real life.  Archer Investigations, 6546 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Pops Pills, Spanish Ave & Alta St, Vinewood.

In game 2.  Unnamed pharmacy, Boulevard Del Perro & Morningwood Blvd, Morningwood.

By default, it means the Fruit of the Vine store in Morningwood is the Berlina Gallery IRL, which is the right-hand part of the same building & is still the original colour.

Don't know where the sign comes from though, but it's been used a couple times in the game.

Does that mean that the "fruit of The Vine" store is a match for Archer Investigation as well ?

For it's similar position in real life, I would say Berlina Gallery, but for looks & the corner entry, I'd say Archer's.

Archer's is probably a safer bet though.  I'll change the address on the interactive map.   :^:
