Another new find from Crenshaw Blvd.  What a gold mine that street has been.

Koeklin got a stack of finds from there a while ago, but it's still giving.

Real life.  Quick On The Strip Burgers, 4236 Crenshaw Blvd, Los Angeles.

In game.  The Cluckin' Bell Coop, Innocence Blvd, Sth Los Santos.

I actually started in Morningwood & Del Perro, just putting some unidentified pics on the map.

Noticed a couple of duplicates from Sth Los Santos, so went back there to get a few more pics.

Decided to have a quick look in street-view & managed to stumble on a few new finds.

I'll post the rest over the next couple of days.  Haven't had much time to "play" lately.

Here are those duplicates from Del Perro though.

Real life.  Roots Hair Salon, Crenshaw Blvd, LA.

In game.  Rob's Liquor,  Prosperity St, Del Perro.

Already used in Sth LS & Mirror Park.  (bottom pic)

Real life.  Dr. R. L. Donnelly Dentist, 962 West Manchester Ave, LA.

In game.  Stacey's Flower Emporium, Prosperity St, Del Perro.

Already used twice in Sth LS.  (bottom pic)

I'll have to take a look at some already found buildings. I'm sure a few from Del perro/Morningwood have already been found somewhere else.

Great finds Fido.   :^:  :^:

Yeah, it seems that certain parts of Del Perro & Morningwood are just duplicate buildings from other areas, a bit like the seedy section of Vinewood that Mr.Killa was talking about.

We've already identified 4 or 5 of them, just gotta keep your eyes peeled for the others.

New find.

Real life.  Young's Arco gas station & Discount Beauty Supply, 800 W Manchester Ave, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Globe Oil gas station & Discount Beauty Store, Innocence Blvd & Alta St, Sth Los Santos.

In game 2.  Globe Oil gas station & Discount Beauty Store, Clinton Ave & Fenwell Pl, Vinewood Hills.

Surely this is the last one from Crenshaw Blvd.

Real life.  The Pancake Factory, 15619 Crenshaw Blvd, Gardena, CA.

In game.  Bishop's Chicken, Davis Ave & MacDonald St, Sth Los Santos.

The Pancake Factory was originally an IHOP (International House Of Pancakes) restaurant.

Even though the in-game sign is different to The Pancake factory sign, it's actually a recreation of the original IHOP sign.

Great finds as well Wayny !

I was looking for that Bishop's restaurant as well but it was way south of where I looked.

Wayne, those are some amazing finds. I am in awe. I like to think the location team just went around capturing the most interesting buildings in LA and replicated them into GTA V in their own fun way.

@ polaris23

I read an article a few weeks ago that said the R* team actually used Google street-view for some of their initial searching, just like us.   :)

Then they went to the real life locations to get more photos.

I suppose we are just re-tracing their steps, but we don't have many clues to go on, we've just gotta keep searching.

There are tons of interesting buildings that weren't chosen for the game.  They probably needed to get a good balance of interesting & "standard" looking buildings.

New find.

Retail plaza that is used twice in Sth LS & once in Morningwood.

It might be used somewhere else in the game, but I'm not 100% sure.

Real life.  Nix Check Cashing Plaza, South Figueroa St & West Slauson Ave, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Zany-Z's Plaza, Innocence Blvd & Davis Ave, Sth Los Santos.  (full version)

In game 2.  Cart-L Market Plaza, Innocence Blvd & Carson Ave, Sth Los Santos.  (shortened version)

In game 3.  Binco & Ammu-Nation Plaza, Blvd Del Perro & N Rockford Dr, Morningwood.  (shortened version)

Well, instead of mowing the lawns, de-frosting the fridge, washing the car or taking the kids to sport, I decided to do this.  A Sunday well spent.

I'll split this over a couple posts, as there are quite a few pics & details to go over.

Real life.  Mission Market & Grocery plus various shops, 2527 W Slauson Ave, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Save-A-Cent Discount Store & various shops, Carson Ave & Brouge Ave, Sth Los Santos.

In game 2.  Groceries Store & empty shops, Davis Ave & Carson Ave, Sth Los Santos.  (reversed & slightly modified)

vaok9lV.jpg

It's a store that I should've noticed earlier, as it's right next door to a previous find.

Also, I think the "Sweats & Socks 5 for $10" sign comes from a different IRL shop on Manchester Ave.

The font, colours & wording are exact matches, but the layout is different, so maybe, maybe not.

Across the road IRL, there is another group of shops that went unnoticed.

At first glance, the in-game & IRL shops don't look all that similar, it's only when you take a good look at the details that you realise they are a match.

The door & window positions on the lefthand shop are different to the other 4 shops, both in-game & IRL.

There is also a slightly curved shape to the skinny awning over the top.

You've just got to imagine the in-game shops on a flat piece of road (instead of stepped) & without the all the signs above.

Real life.  Nationwide Glass & empty shops, 2408 W Slauson Ave, Los Angeles.

In game.  Laundromat, Molarstation  Dentistry, Family Pharmacy, Furniture store & Nail & Beauty store, Carson Ave, Sth Los Santos.

h4o4c3H.png

8eDxQOR.png

kTfFuQ5.png

at8tOBI.png

From above, it's uncanny how similar the in-game layout is to IRL.  Even the car wash is there.

Geez! It's a copy/paste. They just took the IRL block and put it ingame. Just a few tweaks here and there and voila!
Amazing detective work once again Wayny. You must spend countless hours doing this. I never would have notice that curved shape on top on those stores.
That's seriously brilliant.

Yeah, there's a few sections of the game that are almost copies of real life streets or blocks.  Makes it a bit easier for us I suppose.

About that curved awning on the shops.  At first I thought it was something that would set the buildings apart.

Only after going back for a second look did I realise the in-game shops had it as well.  It was a case of "more ass than class."

I don't know if we've discussed this before or not, but the You Tool Hardware on the Senora Fwy is actually based off the Slauson Super Mall.

Rockstar have just removed the curved awnings & added a Home Depot/Lowes facade over the top of the Davis Mega Mall building.

The building & the whole complex including the parking lots, laneway down the side plus the shops & storage facility out the back are exactly the same.

May as well post the real life versions too.

I'm not 100% sure of the real life jewelry store name, but there is a King's Jewelry in the Slauson Super Mall complex, so I suppose that'll do for now.

Real life.  Kings Jewelry, 1628 W Slauson Ave, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Discount Jewels, Carson Ave & Brouge Ave, Sth Los Santos.

In game 2.  Discount Jewels, Senora Fwy, Sandy Shores.

Real life.  Sunny Market, 5871 Denker Ave, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Carson Self Storage, Brouge Ave, Sth Los Santos.

In game 2.  Carson Self Storage, Senora Fwy, Sandy Shores.

There is a Gibraltar Self Storage down the side of the Super Mall complex in real life, but in-game it's located at the back.

Oh so disappointed !

I was hoping You Tool was a huge hardware store but I'm sad that it's just a copy of the Davis Mega Mall.

Ah well, that's another match anyway :)

Yeah, it is a bit of a shame, but I suppose we always suspected the scale wasn't quite right for a hardware store.

I just can't believe it's took us this long to realise they were the same building.

New find, & possibly a reverse Easter egg too.

Real life.  Big Bear Mini Market, 1510 Santa Fe Ave, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Long Pig Mini Market, Alta St, Sth Los Santos.

In game 2.  Long Pig Mini Market, Jamestown St, Sth Los Santos.

Wow, I never noticed the You Tool was just a modified Davis Mega Mall. It's so obvious now when you put the pictures side by side.

@ boxmonster

Absolutely, it's very very obvious now.  Just goes to show how a few cosmetic changes made us think it was a completely different building.

I wonder how many other "tricks" are in the game.

@ Fido

If you were disappointed with the You Tool building, then I gotta say I'm disappointed with this church near Franklin's 1st safehouse.

All the other churches in the game are almost direct copies of the IRL ones, but this one has been altered enough to make you almost dismiss it.

The spire & gothic windows don't even exist IRL.  They were the two things I was keeping an eye out for.

Everything else is a 100% match though.  Maybe there is a second IRL church with a spire & windows that match, or maybe R* have just used the windows from the Piru church.

There are hundreds of churches in the Sth LA area, so I don't know why they decided to modify a plain looking one when they could've just chosen one that was more suitable.

Real life.  Compton Community Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1226 West Compton Blvd, Compton.

In game.  Children of the Mountain Fellowship, Strawberry Ave & Forum Dr, Sth Los Santos.

Wow good one Wayny !

Like you said it's very different from the ingame one but it's definitely the correct match.

Too many similarities between the two so that's what the ingame one is based on.

Like you said, I don't understand why they didn't just put a real life church from South Central instead of creating a brand new one.

We already guessed that the windows were from the Piru Church. But the clock tower...

Here's my theory. Early in development they modeled the real life church into the game. Then at some point it was decided that it didn't look "churchy" enough. I think without the street sign you could drive past that building for years and not know it's a church, so a little poetic license was needed for the game.

Maybe. The RL church looks very bland and boring. But the IG church has a very interesting look. There are many cased where the R* managed to make the buildings in the game look better than their IRL counterpars.

EDIT: This might be a find. Not too sure. But the roof of over the gas pumps looks quite like this LTD Gas Station.

IRL: Shell Gas Station, 3645 Crenshaw Blv, Los Angeles

In Game: LTD Gas Station, Davis Ave & Grove St, South Los Santos

Sorry if this is not a find (If there are ton of similar-looking stations). Koeklin or Wayne has already found some of the buildings on the neighboring block.

Hey guys.   There are about 3 or 4 of those hexagonal Shell gas stations in the Crenshaw Blvd & Slauson Ave area.

We've never posted them before because they look too similar to each other, so we don't know which one is the match.

I'll try to put up a few IRL pics so we can all decide which one is closest.

Okay. There is also a Xero gas station south of Olympic Freeway on Strawberry Avenue that has a similar design, but the one in Davis looks more like this one.

Mr.Killa, that Xero gas station has a zig-zag roof instead of a hexagonal one.  A few other IG gas stations have that roof as well.

I think Fido found the zig-zag roof gas station in Del Perro before the game came out, but it hasn't been put on the map.  I'll check it out to see if they are all copies of the same one.

The LTD gas station in Mirror Park has a hexagonal roof though.  It could be a match too.

Sth Los Santos.

Here are the IRL gas stations I could find that have hexagonal roofs.  Pretty sure I've seen 1 or 2 more, but I only had these ones in my photo folder.

A.  Cnr of Crenshaw Blvd & Rodeo Rd.

B.  Cnr of West Vernon Ave & South Figueroa St.

C.  Cnr of Long Beach Blvd & East Imperial Hwy, Lynwood.

D.  Cnr of Crenshaw Blvd & West Slauson Ave.

What do you guys think?  A, B, C or D?

Because of the different store design, I think D is out of the running straight away, but it's a tough call between the others.

Great finds Mr Killa !

I wonder if R* have duplicated a specific station or if they took a few details here and there and made their own.

We should look for every Shell Gas Station in LA.

Maybe we could split LA in 3 or 4 and each of us would search his area ?

EDIT : I searched throughout LA on Google Earth and found 4 possible matches.

But the one that feels like THE One is your number A Wayny.

It's located in the middle of a 'hot spot' where we found 5-6 matches already.
