Sorry for the long post, but here's the Sandy Shores Airfield.

Back in August last year, Fido made a post about some Route 66 buildings & signs that were found by Angeleno from the French GTA Forums.

Here's the link.   http://gtaforums.com...entry1062866109  It's worth having a look if you haven't already seen it.  Some amazing work going on back then.

One of the finds was Roy's Cafe on Route 66 in Amboy CA., which can be found in-game on Route 68 in Harmony.

b9WDkDo.png

If you look at a wider street-view image of Roy's Cafe, you can see this awkward looking structure in the background.

jYiNLey.png

There's an old abandoned airfield behind Roy's Cafe.  That building is what they call a "T" hangar, due to its internal shape.

It's an exact match for the "T" hangar at Sandy Shores Airfield.  There's even an old sofa in there for good measure.

KAE4B7Z.png

SDRWmZl.jpg

wTqzYUX.png

3EGACUR.jpg

The large hangar at Sandy Shores Airfield is modelled off the abandoned Riverview Airport hangar which is in Needles CA., also on route 66 but near the Arizona border.

EAJjEu4.png

J9u0k05.png

sOYl4Te.png

The Amboy runways are still visible from the air, & you can just see Roy's Cafe/Harmony Cafe in the distance on the in-game image.

Does it look familiar?

Up6x8lf.png

FYpO2PC.png

3sP4ams.png

gbOLvbI.png

Now the control tower.

This is just a theory, but it makes some sense although it's something we might not be able to confirm.

At the Amboy Airfield, there is a large water tower which has an uncanny resemblance to the Sandy Shores control tower.

Maybe the water tower structure used to be a control tower back in the airfields heyday, but has since been converted to hold the tanks.

Or maybe they are simply water towers for the Hotel next door & Rockstar just used the structure as a reference for the Sandy Shores control tower.

I can't find any pics of the original Amboy control tower or the IRL Sandy Shores tower, so this is just speculation.  What do you guys think?

LYeAhjI.png

Edit was for fixing spelling stuff-ups etc.

haha....we're sniffing out the same trail.
I was looking for the two Fort Zancudo monuments last night.
Point Mugu base also has a plane monument & curved entrance feature that is similar to the Fort Zancudo wall of remembrance.
I don't think they are matches though.
I'm away from home most of today & on my phone, so can't post any pics, but check out Nellis Airforce Base in Nevada.
Their monument is almost identical to the in-game one.

EDIT.

Back home now.

Another find. Completely by accident.

IRL: Bebe Elegant/Van Long Silk & Crafts, 330 East 4th Street, Los Angeles

https://www.google.n...Gogx8p4Ke-Q!2e0

In Game: Open 24 Hours/Happy Shark, Clinton Avenue, Los Santos

UbGdVMG.jpg?1

Also, I´m not too sure, but there might be a duplicate in downtown. The neighboring building to the left in Vinewood is definetely the same as the neighboring building to the right in downtown. Here it is. Same color and shape, but still some major differences. I´ll let you guys decide.

Happy Shark/Digital Den/Downtown Liquor & Deli, Power Street, Los Santos

@ Mr.Killa

Great stuff.

Yeah, it looks like R* have just replaced the arches with a wider moulding along the top.

The street level section with the awnings might come from another IRL building, but the top section is definitely a match.

Well spotted.

@ Fido

haha...I'll leave that decision up to you.

Here's another toilet.

Not really a new find, just part of the Galileo Observatory grounds.

Real life.  Public restrooms, 2867-2875 E Observatory Road, Los Angeles.

In game.  Public restrooms, E Galileo Ave, Vinewood Hills.

Found a couple of roadside signs etc.

This one is at the entrance to The Lost MC hangout at Stab City.

I spent hours searching but could only find two images on the internet.  Both of them only show the upper section, but you can just see the top of the arrow in one of them.

Neither of them had an address for the sign, so I have no idea where it's located or even if it still exists.

WhZG6pF.png

EDIT.

Finally found where it is.  Now there are hundreds of images on the net.

It's real life address is;  Strip 91 Motel, 2091 Las Vegas Blvd Nth, Nth Las Vegas, NV 89030.

Maybe I'll keep looking for the others.  Just gotta be patient & hope to stumble across an image somewhere.

Here's a side by side of the full sign.

CJqAZJg.pngiWr4v0p.jpg

The "Drink Blarney's Beer" water tank is a direct copy of the Frostop Root Beer mug.

There are numerous versions of the Frostop mug, but the one in Chrisman Illinois is one of the closest matches.

Frostop is no longer franchised, so a lot of the original mugs now have different company names on them.

There used to be a few dozen of them, but I think there are only about 14 left, including a couple of neon versions.

IAfwq4n.png

The Yucca Motel cactus sign in Western Sandy Shores has a few close matches, but I don't know if any of them are close enough to call.

There are a couple of real life motels called the Yucca Motel, but their signs don't look like the in-game one either.

LNVcF8U.png

Still on the hunt for these signs as well.

There are a few similar looking ones out there, but nothing that could be considered a match.

You would assume that if Rockstar have copied some real life signs for the game, then these ones should have a real life counterpart too, but who knows.

Just a few more duplicates.

Ray's Electronics in Paleto Bay is another duplicate of the Autoparts & Laundry from 3788 Scott Dr, Desert Shores.

The front of the store has been positioned down a narrow alleyway, so it was a little tricky to spot unless you were looking at it from the right angle.

9nlrvfm.png

dUvymyi.jpg

That makes 6 different in-game shops now.  It's been slightly modified each time it's been used.

Even though the green versions of the store are similar to the IRL building, I've now got that nagging feeling that they actually come from a different IRL building.

If we eventually find it, we can always update the map to suit.  Here's a side-on of the 6 stores anyway.

k8ZN8Ig.png

Two more from Little Seoul.

Real life.  601 East Compton Blvd, Compton.

In game.  Unnamed shop, S Rockford Dr, Little Seoul.

It has already been used at Dutch London St, Sth Los Santos. (bottom image)

MsbETp9.jpg

HxJrGzt.jpg

tobnfEM.jpg

Real life.  Hermandad Mexicana, 1303 East Compton Blvd, Compton.

In game.  Paper Supply Co. & San Andreas Sports, S Rockford Dr, Little Seoul.

Already used on the corner of Carson Ave & Roy Lowenstein Blvd, Sth Los Santos. (bottom image)

I know it's been 6 years, but it would be great if you guys did and interactive map with all these landmarks analysis with Liberty City when you're done with LS. correct me if i'm wrong, but i think there isn't a map like this one you guys made for Los Santos

That could be interesting. It would be alot harder in some areas though, since LC has a lot of very similar looking buildings (Brownstones, tenements), and NYC has pretty much thousands of buildings like those that look 100% the same. There is also no Snapmatic in GTA IV. Let´s see what Wayne or Fido has to say.

Cheers guys.

haha....remember the days whenever a mod came on here, it meant we would be shut down for a few days.  Good times.

This one nearly slipped by.

I thought it looked close from the front but so do a lot of other sheds & garages, plus the scale was way off.

You can get a good look at the garage from most angles in real life, as there is a road which runs down the side of it.

The back & side of the IRL garage have a few distinctive features, so I decided to check out the back of the in-game garage.  Bingo!!!

Real life.  Daggett Garage, 35565 Santa Fe St, Daggett CA.  (just off Route 66)

In game.  Auto Repair Garage, Great Chaparral.  (just off Route 68)

Also, does it say "66" instead of "68" on the back of the garage, or is it just my eyes playing up?

Nice Easter egg if so.

LwXGiqJ.png

SU9Wyf3.png

IsVUSYZ.png

Edit.

Regarding the GTA IV map.

I reckon by the time we find all the V buildings, VI will be ready for pre-release mapping.  Can't wait for that.

That's a very nice find Wayny.

It's very close to the IRL one. Almost no modification.

I'm pretty certain now that almost every building ingame has a real life counterpart. There don't seem to be much R* created buildings...

That's great for us !

Yeah, I think so too.  Whether we can find them all is another matter though.

It doesn't help when IRL buildings have been repainted, renovated or completely demolished since Rockstar went through & took their photos.

I was getting a few more IRL pics last night, when I noticed Google street-view had been updated in the Manchester Ave area.

Even though the buildings are still the same structurally, the cosmetic changes might've been enough to throw us off.

If we scrolled past them in street-view now, we might not even give them a second look.  I suppose we just have to pay more attention to the details now.

This one almost looks like a different building until you notice the little details.

It was the original yellow colour plus the blue writing above the white sign that first caught my eye. I don't know if I would've spotted it now.

p2dpYJt.png

This one hasn't changed all that much, but it was the light blue doors & dirty awning that I first noticed.  With the new paint job & open doors, I might've missed this one too.

zVIeKZw.png

Then there are buildings that don't even exist any more, like this house in Niland.

If Google decided to update street-view in that area before we found that house, there would've been no chance in hell of us finding it.

I actually started in Morningwood & Del Perro, just putting some unidentified pics on the map.

Noticed a couple of duplicates from Sth Los Santos, so went back there to get a few more pics.

Decided to have a quick look in street-view & managed to stumble on a few new finds.

I'll post the rest over the next couple of days.  Haven't had much time to "play" lately.

Here are those duplicates from Del Perro though.

Real life.  Roots Hair Salon, Crenshaw Blvd, LA.

Already used in Sth LS & Mirror Park.  (bottom pic)

I'll have to take a look at some already found buildings. I'm sure a few from Del perro/Morningwood have already been found somewhere else.
