This house appears twice on Invention Ct. Do you think it matches 2420 Grand Canal Ct?

100% yes.  Well spotted.   :^:  :^:  :^:

Is it possible to get a street level view or is the canal in the way?

@ Fido

I'm with lxr on the Schlonberg & Sachs building.  It's a tough one for sure.

Those concrete fins/columns are very prominent on the in-game building, but not so much on the IRL buildings.

You have searched those buildings a lot though, so you would be a better judge.  I'll just sit here on this nice comfortable fence for now.

@ Mr.Killa

I hope I didn't send you on a wild goose chase.

The Jilguero Jewelers is not duplicated in the spots I mentioned, but it's poorer cousin is.

I was thinking of these 2 buildings.

They are a little bit similar to Jilgueros, but definitely not the same.  Sorry about that.  I was going off memory but should've checked first.

To make it up to you, here's a little tip.  Go back to the real life Wholesale Mart you found, then look to the right.   ;)

Don´t worry, I haven´t seen your comment unill now. And that looks like another match. Great work, Wayne. Are you putting those ones on the map, or have you already?

Yeah mate, I put them on the map a bit earlier today.  This is what they look like.

Real life.  Czar Jewelry, 631 Sth Broadway, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  L.S. Gentstyle, Sinner St, Downtown. (Mission Row)

In game 2.  Ice Planet Jewelry, Clinton Ave, Vinewood.

EDIT.

Interesting to note the corner building as well.

The building on the far left in the pictures below is most probably based on a building from LA's Fashion District, so the corner building may very well be from somewhere else entirely.

It might be worth doing a quick check along Sth Broadway though.

This one is more obvious... 460 Sherman Canal:

It appears at least 6 times around the Vespucci Canals:

Vespucci canals look to be a gold mine for new finds. Lots of duplicates though.
Great job lxr!
I'll keep looking for the one in Rockford Hills but it pisses me off!

It's definitely more straightforward than many other places. More duplicates than I would have expected, makes taking pictures somewhat disorienting after a while.

Here's a third match for 2420 Grand Canal Ct:

I think I've got them all (photographed and added to the map, not identified!), about 80 buildings. If you spend too much time there, you know every single NPC...

This one was easy, too. 458 Howland Canal, 4 matches:

And here are matches #4 and #5 for 2420 Grand Canal Ct. Same street, right next to each other:

One more. 205 N Venice Blvd. 4 matches so far.

Btw, I realized that the Content Creator is the best way to get an overview of the area.

Not convinced about that last one lxr. The chimney thing is not ingame and the windows are different. What do you think Wayny ?

There are two very distinct details that match all 6 in-game buildings: In the satellite image, that's the front left corner of the facade (small balconies with rounded corner and two openings in the wall, next to a chimney), and the balconies at the rear, on the left side.

Here's one that I'm not convinced about. The building appears at least 6 times, too. The three houses below have a slightly similar design, but it's far from identical. (EDIT: Just realized that the second one is already on the map.)

In case someone else wants to have a go at the canals, I guess that for now, I'll leave it at that.

I agree about the other one, the balconies look like no coincidence.

This one I can't really tell without street view but I don't think it is a match, the dingbat style parking seem to be a telling feature as to what it is based on.

If you play rooftop rumble and follow the route the gps gives to for the drop off.... you pass that shop. I was looking at the building when a black SUV tore my front end off, and put speed holes in my Turismo. Recognizing the buildings gets me killed quite a bit.

Holy crap lxr.  Absolutely amazing.   :cookie: :^:   :cookie:   :^:  :cookie:   :^:

Took me a few minutes to take it all in.  My head is still spinning.

Regarding this one 205 N Venice Blvd, I wasn't fully sure at first, so went into street-view for a better look.

When you see it at street level, I don't think there's any doubt.

The little openings/windows in the balcony handrails are dead giveaways.

I have my doubts about this one though.

What were you thinking?  Clearly the balcony furniture is a different colour.

While searching on S Broadway for the corner building seen next to the building Wayne Kerr found, I found this.

IRL: The Fmda´s (That´s atleast what I can make out of it), 1102 South Broadway, Los Angeles

https://www.google.n...O9b3h7xsJ2w!2e0

In Game: Chihuahua Hotdogs, Vespucci Boulevard, Pillbox Hill, Los Santos

ChihuahuaHotdogs-GTAV.jpg

Looks like a match to me, same color, and it´s almost unchanged. It´s real-life neighboor has been found, but not this one for some reason. In the game, the two buildings are also located right next to eachother.

What an epic day it's been on the thread.

At this rate, we'll find every building by next week.

Here's another one of the apartments in Sth LS.

Real life.  Apartment complex, 4722 August St, Sth Los Angeles.

In game.  Apartment complex, Strawberry Ave, Sth Los Santos.

SICK!!! Waynie! Waynie! Waynie!!! Dude I was literally HERE in game yesterday... I think. One of the halls can be entered and it has only one entrance and a PERFECT window to snipe from.  I wonder if the Restarant called LA Spada, has been spotted. I love LA Spada, one of my favorite roofs to get gibbs on.  I love you Wayne Kerr! You are a TRUE GTA entusiast. Hopefully they put you in the next game.

Thanks, Wayne, lxr and Fido. Also, Wayne, have you done any searching on that duplicated building you wondered was on S Broadway? As said, that was the building I was trying to find. I searched the entirety of Broadway from the Santa Monica Freeway to the Civic Center, and nothing resembling it there. I also searched a bit on South Los Angeles Avenue, but nothing there either. If you haven´t been looking, maybe someone should double-check, as I may have overlooked it.

Great finds! Including duplicates, we got more than 30 new matches today.

If anyone feels like it (as I said, I stopped looking at the Canals), there are at least 20 more that seem doable.

And with the photos already present on the map, you might not even have to fire up the game for that.

I love you Wayne Kerr! You are a TRUE GTA entusiast. Hopefully they put you in the next game.

Now that's a great idea!  :^:

@ FilthyEsquire.....haha, thanks mate.

Not sure how long you've been browsing the forums, but if you haven't read this thread from the beginning, then I recommend it to you.

The true enthusiasts are some of the guys & girls in the contributors list on the first page.

They were able to locate & identify a huge amount of buildings from a handful of screenshots, or a few seconds of trailer footage that never quite showed enough detail.

Sometimes buildings were identified just by the style of brickwork or a partial view of a window or archway etc.

Identifying buildings since the game release is a helluva lot easier.  We've now got Snapmatic, so can take shots from any angle in any weather conditions, any time of day.

Finding the time is the hardest part now.

@ Mr.Killa

No, I haven't searched for the corner building.  I had a quick look on Sth Broadway near your find, but didn't go more than a block or two.

It may not be on Sth Broadway though.  I just thought it might be in the general area as all 3 of the in-game buildings are duplicated together in the same order.

Knowing the way R* have placed some of the buildings, there's a good chance it comes from a completely different area, so don't worry if you can't find it.  We'll get it eventually.

EDIT.

lxr, if they put any of us in the game, I'll probably be a hobo.

The amount of time I spend searching instead of working will probably lose me my job.

Then I'll be broke & destitute in real life so it will be quite fitting.

After this one, there are just two more Sth LS apartments left to find.

They are variations of the same IRL building & I think I've found it, but I'll need to double check the area incase there's a better match.

Real life.  Casa de Coco Apartments, 3910 Coco Ave, Sth Los Angeles.

In game.  Apartment building, Forum Dr & Carson Ave, Sth Los Santos.

@Wayne: Excellent!!

I just realized that several of the Vespucci Canals buildings (but none of the ones I've already found) reappear at the southern end of Bay City Ave, between the marina and the beach. Who knows, maybe that area of real-life L.A. is also where some of these houses can be found.

Seriously guys, if you're not already using it, you should give the Content Creator a try. Nobody bumps into you or steals your car, it's faster and more maneuvrable than any helicopter, and it has the "3pm forever" mode that I really miss from modded GTA IV.

Gave me an instant match in Vinewood, right behind the Chateau Marmont (sorry for cell phone pics, going to make better ones later). I don't think I would have found this without it.

The one on the right side is a bit hard to make out, and maybe this is technically part of Chateau Marmont anyway, but otherwise...

While here, still on the campus, one can argue again that this is part of the stadium anyway. Otherwise, there are a few small details that match exactly.

EDIT: This is already on the map, as the Acosta Athletic Training Center. Google Maps currently says Knapp Football Center, but that's probably the same thing. However, if you look closely at the satellite map and at the 3D view below, you'll realize that the building has changed since the map was made. The SW corner was angled, now it's rectangular. Actually this is the famous elementary school that R* removed. Strangely though, in the linked photo, the SW corner is clearly rectangular too, not angled. It's not a big deal, but it's not a shadow or similar, it's in fact a tiny mismatch between map and game.
