Aw man. Sad to hear that. I've been there as well. This happened several times to me with various projects I had going on or with some photos I lost forever. :(

Phenomenal thread guys! Thought I'd drop by and praise the work done here so far. :)

Ah, collaborative effort. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy knowing things like this exist :)

I'm curious, Wayne, as how you got that huge Google steetview database. Did you use some print screen software or something? because I find it tedious pasting them into a image editor, cropping them and then saving them from there and would like to know a quicker way to do it.

No mate, nothing that high-tech.

I just Google streetview through a town or street & take a simple screen-shot of any interesting or promising looking buildings.

When my desktop is full of images, I just drag them into iPhotos (Mac).  That's it.  Not sure if it's that simple on a normal PC.

Keep in mind, a few months ago I was taking screen-shots of nearly every building because I didn't really know what I was looking for.  That's why I had so many.

If I went back through some of those towns or streets now, I would probably only take about 10% of the screen-shots I did back then.

In a way it's a good thing that I lost all those images.  When (if) I decide to search those areas again, I might spot things that I missed before.

So, losing the images isn't that bad, but finding the time to search again is the problem.

Real life.  HertzRent2buy used rental cars & Atlantic Aviation, 6411 West Imperial Hwy, Los Angeles.  (right next to LA airport)

In game.  Shuttle Bus Rental, Autopia Parkway, Los Santos International Airport.  (expanded version)

There are always 1 or 2 rental shuttle buses parked out the front of the in-game building, so I assume it's a bus/car rental business, although there are no signs on the building.

It ties in nicely with the IRL building though, so I'll go with it.   ;)

Ah man !
I was looking in the wrong place for Pitchers.
I litterally checkex every street in Hollywood/Sunset to find it.
I didn't know it was actually a duplicate.
It explains a lot lol.
Great finds Wayny !

Don't worry Fido, a lot of noobs make that mistake.   :pp

R* did a great job when they duplicated Pitchers.  They made just enough changes to make it look like a different building at first, but still retain the same overall features as the Brewer's Drop building.

It was actually the little side window/verandah opening on the upper level that caught my eye & gave away the fact they were duplicates.

Real life.  Alvarez Fashion Inc, 1700 South Santa Fe Ave, Los Angeles.  (in the old Sudduth Tire Company building)

In game.  Rimm Paint factory, Power St, South Los Santos.

In real life, the warehouse section with the dark green roller door is at the back of the building.

In the game, the back of the building has been moved to the side.

No idea were the in game sign on top of the building is from.

Real life.  Unnamed warehouse & factory at 405 Mateo St, Los Angeles.

In game.  Soyler textile on Popular St, La Mesa.

sh*t! Here`s some trivia for you guys. I don`t know if you guys in this thread are into rap, but this might be interesting anyways. If you watch the music video of N.W.A.-Alwayz Into Somethin`, skip to 1:21, and look behind MC Ren and that though guy. It`s this building. It may not be that interesting to you guys, but I just had to get it off my mind, as the first time I watched that music video, I instantly knew I had seen that building. Wait, just look at the thumbnail:

Mr.Killa, you've got some sharp eyes.  You should be looking for buildings too.

Here are some matching angles of the IRL & in-game building.

bfOB0fm.png?1 EzXokj6.png?1 DkNuQb8.jpg?1

Also, the police chase at 2.43 in the video is filmed right in front of the building, running alongside the 4th Street bridge.

Basically, the camera man filmed both scenes from the same spot, he just had to turn around & face the other way.

Thanks, Wayne. I would probably look for buildings if it wasn`t for that LA county is so damn big that it would take hours to search. Especially now, as the most interesting buildings along major avenues and streets have already been found. And many suburbian houses in LA look pretty much the same.

Got 2 or 3 more from Textile City, but can only post one for now.  Having trouble logging in to PSN at the moment, so I can't get any decent in-game images.

Real life.  Dynasty Fashion, 1600 Santee St, Los Angeles.

In game.  Dallas Fashion (do you get the joke?) & French Dry Cleaners, Atlee St & Sinner St, Downtown/Textile City.

haha...no tough guy.  Just got more spare time than most.

Real life.  Maple Textile Exchange, 902 Maple Ave, Los Angeles.

In game.  Binco & Simmet Alley Traders Co-Op, Sinner St & Sinners Passage, Downtown/Textile City.

Obviously the corner of the building has been modified & I have no idea where the yellow, green & red stripes come from.

Not 100% sure about this one.  I think it's a good match, but not a great match.

With the barred windows of a similar shape & size, the ladder from the fire escape, plus all of the horizontal lines in the right places, the upper levels are a good match.  The lower level leaves me with some doubts, especially the solid looking doorway in the in-game building.

I won't put it on the interactive map unless you guys say it's OK.

Real life.  Wholesale Plaza, 233 East 5th St, Los Angeles.

In game.  Unnamed building, Sinner St, Downtown/Textile City.

I'd say it's the right building but it's been considerably modified.

The location is consistent with other buildings found in that area and we already found some buildings along 5th Street so I think it's OK to add to the map.

Good eye Wany !

Thanks Fido.  It's on the map.

Here are a couple more from Textile City that are close matches but not perfect matches.

Real life.  Ultimate Bridal, 945 Maple Ave, Los Angeles.

In game 1.  Ranch Factory Outlet, Sinner St, Downtown/Textile City.

In game 2.  Gems & LS Gentstyle, Sinner St & Atlee St, Downtown/Textile City.

InF7Hiq.png

5lnsNIm.jpg

It's barely noticeable IRL, but both buildings have a similar brickwork design above the awnings.

MEkY3xq.png?1FZ53KGB.jpg?1

The 2nd in-game building only uses the upper & lower levels from the IRL building, but the brickwork is an exact match.

Cheers Fido.  There's no mistaking this one.

Didn't notice at the time, but IRL this fish market is right next door to the liquor store from a few posts back.

Real life.  Happy Fish Market, 1658 West Manchester Ave, Los Angeles.

In game.  Yum Fish Market, Carson Ave, South Los Santos.

Sorry for the long post.

Not new finds, but one duplicate & a couple of signs from real life.  I guess it's still something.

#1 was posted further up the page, but I've only just noticed #2 on Strawberry Ave, even though it's almost a perfect match.

RLUhK6X.png?1

I've also noticed a couple of signs from IRL that have been used in the game, like Mom's Burgers sign from 336 West Alondra Blvd in Compton.  I've got no idea where the in-game building comes from though.

ipbhhU3.png

We had the carpet shops from a few pages ago that had their structure based on a building from West Slauson Ave, but the signage is based on a shop from South Western Ave.

wp9H6aM.png?1

Then there's this sign from Bruno's Italian Restaurant at 1652 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica that was put on the Davy Jones Liquor building from Venice Beach.  Together, these 2 buildings made Giovanni's Italian Restaurant in the game.

At first I thought the sign was very common for restaurants.  I've seen several similar looking ones, but this one is a word for word match.

Then if you look at the IRL & in-game maps, Giovanni's restaurant (even though its a different looking building) is located exactly where the sign from Bruno's restaurant is IRL.  Not just close, but exactly.  I would say there's no doubt.

This could be my last post for a while.  The last few finds were discovered during last week, but despite doing a fair bit of searching, I haven't been able to find anything new in the last few days.

I might have to give up on the South LA/Textile City areas for a while.  Will probably head back to the Hollywood Hills to see if I can find a few more Vinewood homes.

Real life.  Carpet store, 11516 South central Ave, Compton.
