Choco Taco, awesome picture.  One of the best I've seen.

That's not my picture.  I just used the link as an example.

I just take pictures, save them to my computer, upload them to Flickr, and then delete the photos off Social Club via the in-game gallery section.

Oh Wayny what would I do without you... :D

I think I'll go with Stingy's method.
Looks like it's the only way to keep every screenshot.

Guys, I have a problem...

My Snapmatic is almost full and there are still lots and lots of buildings without an ingame picture on the interactive map.

Any idea on how to bypass that stupid limit ?

Hey... I'm almost done with the Snapmatic Backup Utility. It won't help with deleting, that still has to be done manually, but at least it keeps all your photos in one place, including previously deleted ones.

I'd give it one or two more days of testing, then I'll post the link. I've also updated the Landmarks Map App, still the same principle, but a couple of new features. New URL too, will post once done.

Needless to say, still amazed by how many buildings you've put on it.  :^:

Yo guys.

So I put all my snapmatic photos on flickr.
I changed all the links to my photos on the interactive map.
I'm curious about that snapmatic backup thing lxr. Sounds very useful !

The cool thing is that it also lets you browse tens of thousands of Snapmatic photos on a map, so in many cases, we may find good shots of buildings that others have already taken.

I'm currently importing the photos, that may still take a day or two. The new landmarks map should be done by tomorrow. Looks like this:

I have absolutely no idea how you are doing this, & only a little idea of what you are talking about, but it sounds like it will be brilliant when it's all done.  :^:

Does it change the way we add & edit locations, or will that stay the same?

Edit.  BTW, if some of us are going to take more in-game images for the interactive map, we should probably designate an area for each of us so we don't double up on the work.  It takes a lot of time as it is.

I've still got to add the in-game images of the Vinewood houses, so I'll probably continue there.

Just a random town in the middle of a farming area.  I don't even know why I was looking there, but you take them as they come.

Take away the side awnings & the orange chevron from the top, & it's almost a perfect match.

Real life.  El Revention nightclub at 12708 Main St, Lamont, CA.

In game.  The Hen House nightclub in Paleto Bay.

A correction to a previous post I made.

I originally thought Helmut's Auto's in Paleto Bay was based on Raul's Autos in Santa Paula, CA.  I always had a doubt about the roofline though.

Kol1kAo.png?2geVPdG4.jpg?2

After viewing hundreds of gas stations around California, I have only seen the same roof/cover on a couple of other occasions, but the buildings were not a match.

Prado's Auto Sales in Lamont CA is a very close match.  In the game, the windows & door have been moved to the side of the building.

Real life.  Prado's Auto Sales at 11301 Main St, Lamont, CA.

In game.  Helmut's European Autos in Paleto Bay.

So glad I somehow stumbled on this little town.  It's revealed a few in-game locations.

The stone cladding is on the right shop in real life, on the left shop in-game.

Real life.  Paredes Fashions at 10909 Main St, Lamont, CA.

In game.  Paleto Pets & The Bay Bar in Paleto Bay.

Yeah, those googie gas stations used to Wilshire and/or Gulf stations, It's a pretty common design. I didn't say anything the first time because I thought you were right, Wayne. So I might as well say it now even though now I think you are 100 percent correct, you know, just in case.

Ah...googie...I never knew the proper name.  Cheers.

I've only seen about 3 or 4 of that particular roof style in SOCAL, apparently there's not too many more.

This one in Needles CA is close, & I was going to include it on the interactive map until I saw the one in Lamont.

XfAWO69.png?1

There is also one in San Jose, but the building behind is different.

Does it change the way we add & edit locations, or will that stay the same?

It's pretty much the same. You have to click on "About" to sign in, I guess that's the only change.

At the moment, someone is still adding or editing stuff on the old map. Once that's done, I'm going to import the data, and we can make the switch.

Edit: Until that's done, please don't make changes on the new map yet ;)

Edit: Wow, two hours later, and the old map is still being edited. So lets postpone this...

BTW, if some of us are going to take more in-game images for the interactive map, we should probably designate an area for each of us so we don't double up on the work.  It takes a lot of time as it is.

Absolutely! I guess most of what's left to do (apart from finding new matches, of course!) is to add the missing screenshots, and in many cases figure out the correct in-game name or address.

Ok, the old map now redirects to the new one.

Here's what's new:

- Coordinates should now match the actual in-game coordinates
- Updated the credits (there's still room for improvement let me know what you think)
- You can now view full-size screenshots and photos
- Screenshots and photos are cached on the server, in case they disappear from the web (we already have some "image not found" images)
- Somewhat prettier markers
- You can search for locations, i.e. street names and areas
- If you're signed in, the list of landmarks shows which screenshots and photos are missing
- Overview map for easier navigation
- A couple of bug fixes (and probably just as many new bugs, please report if you find any)

The issues that I'm aware of (and that I'm still trying to fix) are:

- Sometimes the list of places may be empty for a moment
- If you browse for a long time, the Google Maps images will stop working

And finally, if you explore a bit, you may find the Snapmatic Photo Map too. Backup is still disabled, as I'm not done importing photos, but you'll get the idea. One thing to try: switch Find to "Crew", type "gta mappers", hit return.

Wow sorry about that !

I was the one editing the old map.

I started taking pictures this afternoon, got a little carried away and started looking for names of ingame buildings.

And I just finished putting all this on the interactive map.

So I'm gonna take a look at the map 2.0, sounds very promising !

EDIT : ARGH ! Looks like the last ingame pics I added a few minutes ago didn't make the jump.

Not a big deal, that's about 30 pics I think. I'll reupload them tomorrow.

Hey, no need to worry ;) I hadn't realized you might still be working on it.

I had already made a few edits on the new map, but definitely fewer than you did on the old one.

So I'll revert it once more, to the state of the old map, as of 45 minutes ago. All your pictures should be there.

Just had a little play with the new map.  Great job lxr, it looks fantastic.   :^:  :^:  :^:  :^:  :^:

Love the navigation/overlay map & the larger pictures.

I can't believe we've put over 500 locations on it so far.  Amazing work from everyone over the last couple of years.

This is just one section of the map.  Wow.

I'll have a play with the new features later on today.

I haven't noticed them in the game yet, but I haven't really been looking for them either.

I'll keep an eye out for them as I'm currently looking for other rock formations & caves/arches from the Monterey coastline & the Joshua Tree National Park areas.

I've found a couple maybes, but need to find some better real life photos before I can post anything.  They're probably only 50/50 at the moment.

Oh the depths we sink to.  I'm now searching California for rocks & holes.

Great find Wayny !

Glad to see that someone is still working on this.

Personnaly, I'm buried in GTA Online, it's just too awesome !

But I keep checking this thread on a daily basis so glad to see it back up today :^:

Cheers.

Glad you're enjoying GTA Online.

I can't quite get into it, but I'll give it another shot soon.  I'm still on level 3.

Even though the thread is basically finished, I'll keep trying to find some more real life buildings.  I enjoy doing that alot more.

It's getting harder & harder to find things though.

This actually sounds a lot like I thought I'd be playing GTA V. In prior versions, I was much more into exploring than making progress in the storyline, doing missions only if I felt I really had to. It could take me years to finish the game.

So I thought I'd take it very slow, block by block, take notes and pictures. But Online got me too, it's nastier, and quite competitive. Now I'm level 87, live in Eclipse Towers, have a garage full of modded cars, and 20 million in the bank (gift by random hacker, not my own achievement). So you might say I got my priorities wrong... ;)

But yeah... nothing beats walking, climbing every ladder, maybe cruising on a BMX bike. You're going to discover a lot more.

The Senora Desert around the Sandy Shores airstrip is partly based on the Joshua Tree National Park.  Maybe that's Rockstar's version of Split Rock, or at least something similar.

I've been trying to find Skull Rock in the game (also from the JTNP), but either I've missed it or it sadly doesn't exist.

The little town of Lamont is still giving.

Slightly modified on top, but you can just make out the sectioned windows above the main window.  I love the broken piece of awning though.  It's like a missing tooth.

Real life.  Brizza Beauty Salon at 11017 Main St, Lamont, CA.

The giveaways are the shape of the bowser awning, the broken sign on the awning plus the panelling & little windows above the white van.

I think this gas station is in another couple of places in the game as well.

Real life.  Amigo's Market at 11304 Main St, Lamont, CA.

In game.  LTD Gas Station on Main St, Grapeseed.
