Of course it's not Union Station. But it's the more look-a-like train station building in all Los Santos. And situated near LS River like IRL

What about this? Anybody ever find this?

Also, I'm interested in the location of this nice-looking forest. :/

The first one is in Puerta del Sol, in the marina. I've passed by it a hundred times.

The second one is in the Chiliad State Wilderness, most likely in Raton Canyon

Might this be some type of indication of Rockstar's intention to make North Yankton an expansion to GTA Online?

@ lxr & Fido.

I'm not sure if either of you are going to be doing the interactive map, but I'll post this here if you need to use it for the Malibu/Chumash region.

I'll post the Northern & Southern sections of Chumash separately, as the images are quite large.

The red dots are the buildings & houses I couldn't find.  Some of them are just generic 24/7 & clothing stores, so they are probably not based on specific real life buildings anyway.

Quite a few of the beachfront streets in Malibu are not available in google street view, so some of the remaining houses might not be identified unless someone from LA wants to go down there with a digital camera

Here's Northern Chumash.

Real life building & address, plus the in-game replica & location on the map.

EPC Hwy stands for East Pacific Coast Highway.  Got sick of typing that each time.

Edit.  Of course the pier is based on the real life Malibu pier as well.  Found by Fido when the Malibu screenshot was released a few weeks ago.

Maybe a mix of buildings... The clock tower is based on Urth Caffé in the Arts District (downtown)

I'm currently working on making the interactive map editable. Looks all good so far, I'll keep you posted.

Could you explain how you're doing it ?

And did you use the original size satellite map (8000x8000) ?

So excited to see that thing !

I'm curious, how do you find some of those South-Central landmarks? Especially something like this?

Some of the "matches" getting posted on the last several pages are... highly questionable. This one isn't even f*cking close.

I think the building completely north of the city, just to the west of the Los Santos Freeway is the CNN Building located on Sunset IRL.

Besides, ingame it's the Headquarters of the CNT TV channel.

The other poster didn't make the claim it was the same building, he claimed it was the substitute. There is no LA Union Station in the game but for all intents and purposes the train station shown could be seen as the main station of Los Santos according to the player (I have no way of knowing it is true or not because I don't own the game since I am waiting on a PC version if that ever comes out).

As it turns out, there are actually 3 Foreman & Clark buildings in Los Santos. Two of them are downtown, one by the raised street, the other near Legion Square. On the other side of the street from the Capitol Records is another one, but it's shaped like the Biltmore.

Did a bit of research and that building was somewhat historical, having been there since 1946 until it closed down in 2007, which is probably why they included it.

Google images ;) . The main difficulty was finding the church in Los Santos: i've already known the real one before playing GTAV

Rockstar probably photographed Los Angeles in 2008. So, Los Santos is based on the city of that time.

Basically, it's just as it is, but you can add landmarks, edit names and image URLs, and move the markers around. The only thing that kept me from finishing it was that I got distracted by the BAWSAQ stock market ;) But I hope I'll get it done by Monday.

And yes, I'm using the original 8192 by 8192 px (=12 by 12 km) maps, split up into smaller tiles, like Google Maps. Zoom level 5 is the original map at 100%, above it gets blurry because there's no higher resolution data.

Great !

So can we start adding things to the map ?

I agree that only a couple of us should have access to directly add things to the map, to keep things organized and coherents.

Also, I found a natural landmark.

Mugu_Rock,_Pt_Mugu,_Calif.jpg

On the Great Ocean Freeway, just below Bixby Bridge at North Chumash, there's a rock extremely similar to Point Mugu.

IRL, it's located exactly as in the game and besides, there's a military base a few kilometres from it.

and in Blaine county, you have Fort Zancudo just south of the Point Mugu look alike...

Coincidence, I don't think... :p

Whenever I was driving past that thing, I thought: Now that's some really stupid and silly map design ;)
