Umm, I make my living making maps? I'm a Human Geographer. These are fictional maps using orientation techniques. They are type like you use at the zoo or amusement parks made with art programs and not made with mapping software like GIS programs (Geography information Systems)
Nice work, mappers, very impressive to get it pretty much perfectly. Where were you in the days of exploration, when you could have actually profited wildly off your talents?
Well, if you're a professional geographer, take two days off and read the entirety of this thread. Mapping a fictional universe can be trickier than mapping reality -- especially if you can't enter the territory. And the techniques that people employed here (3D models, photogrammetry, etc.) were quite impressive.
I think the one tool we were lacking was a shared repository of all screenshots and video stills, arranged by location on a speculative map, whenever possible. Lately, the biggest challenge seemed to be to actually remember all the relevant images we had seen.
Jesus Christ.. I got to give it up to the mappers, I've been waiting for this map the whole time, and I've seen it about 200 times already thanks to the incredible work by the people in this thread.
You people are like wizards or some sh*t.
While I totally appreciate that people give credit here, I actually think that it was mostly just a fun thing to do, and not particularly hard. You wouldn't travel in cars, trains or planes (or read stuff on the Internet) if people weren't wizards, or at least somewhat persistent once they've set themselves a goal.
