Intermission:

Just want to show my appreciation to everyone in the mapping thread. It's like a forensic section of the forum we can go to or put information in an it's methodically analyzed. Makes me proud of you guys. Welldone and keep up the good work. (Looking to get involved myself but kinda wow'd at what you guys do, so will try my best).

Here's to you.

Was that oval thing on the top right of the city ever confirmed to be a racetrack? I'm pretty sure it reads Vinewood racetrack.

Hard to say yet but did notice There's a 'redwood lights track' further north of the racetrack towards sandy shores

It says 200ft and then 5000ft

not 2000, 3000

I'm pretty sure it says 2000, 3000... as that would fit with the meter scale (3000 ft = 914 m).

At 77 px for 1000 ft (not 100% precise), that map would be about 7.85 by 10.45 km, or about 32 sq mi.

In other news: Single train/subway line, 11 stops/stations.

no... i'm pretty sure the top goes up to 3000ft, as 3280ft is 1 kilometer, aka the 1000m of the bottom row.

EDIT - ha - LXR beat me to it

Yeah it says 1000, 2000, 3000 ft

and what should be 333, 666/7, 1000m

Looks like the map is around 8.5km wide including the detailed underwater area.

Well done on the map :^: :^:  Only bits and pieces were missing.

Here's an actual contribution on buildings:

Looks like this place (spitroasters?)

866-1280-1.jpg

Is based on the Cabo Cantina on Sunset Blvd, it's located west of Miyagi's Restaurant.

Where have you been hiding?

I hadn't bothered signing in after the forum changed :p

Anyway I don't think I'll be sticking around too long, nice work everyone.

BTW: Has anyone noticed the airport subway is in a different place to the official blueprint?  It didn't go under the marina after all!  Weird...

Using the meter scale in the left bottom row (1km = 184px), I came up with this. The map is 14,18km (8.81 miles) high and 9,85km (6.12 miles) wide. However this is not accurate area of a landmass because I measured southernmost to northernmost point, and easternmost to westernmost points.

That would give us area of 140 square kilometers or 54 square miles. However because of landmass obviously not being a perfect rectangle, it's quite a bit less than that. Nevertheless I would say landmass area is at least 40 square miles either way.

You could most likely fit 3 times San Andreas on this landmass

Thanks all, wish I'd have updated my map now as I'd have been much closer.

Not quite, almost 1/3 of the scale bar is off the edge of the picture.  1km = roughly 250 pixels.

Not 100% sure, but... maybe not even that thing north of the power station and east of the desert ("Something Something Research"?) is entirely new.

i want to see a new RDR - GTA V map size comparison. RDR feels *really* big when you're stood on the ground.

Correct, this would have been on my update.   From the mini map I could tell it was in a cove, so I drew a giant cove,  I got the place and map scale wrong but it's where I expected it after the better trophy outline leaked.

It' s official, Los Santos is indeed BIGGER than LC from GTA IV, but it' s not as wide, which means it wont be necessary to get through shi* load of bridges which will save you some time. Here are my (I believe 95% right) measurments:

There a few Native American tribe names for places such as Chumash, Tongva and the already released Tataviam. They were all Californian based.

So the whole landmass is what? More than 5 times bigger than Liberty City?

The size and emptiness of that map.
I seriously hope Rockstar are hiding something because that looks pathetic, Los Santos looks smaller than Liberty City and there's only 3 little small towns.

No wonder you didn't show the map R*, you must be ashamed.

This nonsense again? Los Santos is at least the same size as Liberty City. This was stated by Rockstar and this has been verified on this forum by people who did the math.
Gwaha you are completely right, idiots like this should have the Xbox or PS3 break for them within an hour of playing the game or however long it takes their small brains to process how big the game is. They'll have to take back their statements quickly if they don't want karma to screw with their console I hope.

The games map is at least 40% bigger looking at it flat, ADD IN the mountains and verticality it becomes even larger, ADD IN the fact that there will be more interiors this time, on that same map means lots of space to walk around. ALSO do you see the underwater area highlighted in a different shade of blue, that's the detailed area of underground, when it changes colour it'll probably just go very deep at edge of the detailed part, ie your submarine would be unable to go deeper, or scuba gear would fail.

People like you suck ASS. Rant over!
