yeah i know, the moderators need to get their heads out there ass and be a little more appreciative of the f*cking 700 pages that have actual achievement in mapping that these fine fellows have committed to. I say 700 pages because of all the trolling and spam that got us to 1000 pages. Trust me if they don't re-pin it, I'll have some friends of mine fix it permanently for us.

Can anyone take the 184.5 meters from the creator tools shown in the online gameplay and compare the radar with a radar from los santos gameplay then scale that down to the exact spot on the blueprint so we can get an idea how wide los santos is?

If you go to page 961, a discussion starts around there.
Scan through the next few pages after that. I'm not sure if we came to a conclusion or not.
There were a few questions about what the correct distances are etc.

Edit. zombie elvis, lxr & TheTruthOnly are probably the best guys to answer.

Just to add to that, I have a new estimate of the map being 8 to 10 miles long based on that 92.25m distance, that's bigger than I used to think it was.

Oh my goodness! This thread isnt in the top 3 topics. Its a tragedy People might be to dumb to read past the top 5 topics.

This is the most active topic. Its not going to get buried even with all the spam new topics. The purpose of pinning a topic is to keep it near the top so that it doesnt get buried because it contains important or relevant information. A better definition:

"Pinning a topic ensures that the topic does not become difficult to find in a forum that contains many posts. For example, if you are posting details of an important community event, then you might want to pin the topic so that community members can find it easily."
This thread is too popular to get buried amongst the spam. Get over it already. It was likely unpinned to keep the influx spam comments taking this thread off topic. Sorta like it is now. Dont jump off a bridge. This thread isnt going to die. Seek help immediately if you feel suicidal about a topic not being pinned.

We know that the in game iFruit phone has a calendar app as confirmed by CVG during their May 2nd private demo.
We also know that there is no snow on the map that we have seen.
It doesn't make sense to have a separate island off the North Coast with permanent snow. I mean, really? An island in the sea with snow? No way.
So unless R* are hiding something really big, we can assume that North Yankton is already on the map. We just don't know exactly where yet.
Here's my view on North Yankton & the snow. Just my theory. I could be wrong, but it makes sense & there is NO EVIDENCE at all for a separate location.

BTW, I put the calendar app icon on the iFruit phone, but it was confirmed by CVG previously.

Wayne, I 100% agree. What bums me out about your theory (even while I agree with it) is that we have yet to see (I think) any snow-less ski trails. For example:

HERE and HERE

You can see that off-season ski trails are very distinctive and easy to spot. Your theory bums me out simply because there were really only 2 reasons I was excited about the possibility of snow:

1. 4-wheeling/snowmobiling in the snow &
2. Skiing

Okay, maybe 3 reasons:

3. 4-wheeling/snowmobiling/skiing gunfights down a mountain!

I suppose part of me still holds out hope that there will be some downhill (or heck, even cross-country!) skiing. But, since it looks like there is no hidden "always-snowy" mountain region, and the idea of SEASONS is making the most sense, combined with the lack of evidence for "snowless ski trails" in everything we've seen so far...I'm afraid I might not be needing that lift ticket I was hoping for. sad.gif

If someone could cheer me up by pointing out some possible ski trails I've missed, I'd be much obliged! smile.gif

I don't think the mountain has enough trees on for ski trails to look quite like that in this game. My best guess is still North of the farmland on the east of Chiliad.

I know what you mean about the ski trails without snow.
We haven't seen anything like the pictures you showed, but the mountains in GTA V aren't that dense with trees either.

We have to keep in mind that there is absolutely no evidence for snow in the game other than that single portion of the postcard from the website.
I believe snow is in, & I hope it's in, but we need more evidence before we get our hopes up or get let down.
I don't believe R* would tease us with an image of snow if they didn't put it in the game. That would be cruel.

Cheers.

Edit. I'd be happy with just the snowmobile, but actual skiing would be a cool bonus.

Fanmade from a few months ago.
I just added the calendar app to match what CVG said in their preview of the May 2nd demo.

Google GTA V iFruit. It should be the first link. Check it out, it's really well done.

I reckon snow is going to be DLC. It could be implemented like Undead Nightmare - same map, different content. It's also one way of introducing the vehicles we've seen in the Max Payne files.

I dont know how often your went out for skiing but in my area all skiresorts have the skir-trail, slope next to the cabelway or in the same direction. And the one known cableway is on the N/W side of chillad and not on the E part.

so this has been asked many times, but what I'm thinking is, can someone compare between the 1st and 2nd checkpoints, and with that distance between them, see how many landmarks -street lights are the closest thing to mind- there are, and then with some agreed upon measurement -the car length- tell us if the distance measured in the vid is one way or two ways. I hope this makes sense to someone smile.gif

and thanks for the great work guys smile.gif

If you look over to the right hand side - It looks like there is quite a dip in the land.

We have not seen that part of the map yet have we. Maybe they are hiding another small town there.

There is something sticking up that looks man made to the far right. Could be an interesting part of the map - they have not shown this area for a reason - same as the area with the military base.

I would be the first to be happy if it is, but I think if R* really had inserted the opportunity to ski and use ski-lifts (in addition to the cable car), they would have already shown/announced a news so big, especially one month before the release (as they did with tuning, clothing, barber, etc.)

on the right ridge appear strange structures (which does not seem to be all trees, maybe high voltage pylons?), but it is also true that with these pictures not all clear is easy to be deceived (although it's also true that over cablecar also chairlift appeared in the famous list of max payne, but don't know how much it can actually be trusted)

Absolutely ridiculous this isn't pinned. Usual story, bureaucrats thinking everything is about them and their bureaucracy. Who cares what the excuse is, it's the most popular thread here by far. It should be easy to find.

If its the most popular thread by far then its always going to be at the top of the forum topics list. Don't see what the major hang up is about if I'm honest.

Mods have said it will become pinned again in due course.

Now, i saw this back on one of the 960something pages, and if this really is the location of that spot.. Then, gee whiz the size of the place is actually HUGE! I thought it would be big, but if its that big.. well, holy sh*t.. From the higher view, it looks like its not alot of room to cover, but when you go in closer and see how much is actually there, that makes it look even bigger. Wow, it's simply brilliant.

There were a few questions about what the correct distances are etc.

Edit. zombie elvis, lxr & TheTruthOnly are probably the best guys to answer.

The reason I stopped bothering was that these distances can have so many different meanings (some of which are obviously wrong):

- Sum of the distances of straight lines between the dots

- Sum of the distances, starting at the flag, ignoring the white dot

- Same as above, but including the distance from the last to the first point

- Like above, but with the white dot as start and the flag as finish

- Like above, but following a somewhat curved path for the last segment (*)

- Any of the above, but on a slightly tilted radar map

(*) Putting waypoints on a highway will give you the actual driving distance, not a straight line; and even off-road, the game will have preferred routes for vehicles (to simulate traffic) that are not necessarily straight.

Long story short, I think that measuring an object in the satellite/transition animation is more promising.

But zombie elvis may have more clues about the above.
