Fido I think that you put the town of Paleto too far to the west.  There is a picture out there where you can see the green houses on the eastern shore of Lake Alamo in the same frame as the city while the peak of Mount Alamo sits between them.

what?

That's what I first thought, but after looking at the mini-map in the sky-diving scene (3:30 in the trailer) you can see where North is in relation to Paleto.
In the screenshot looking down from the top of the mountain, North is actually at the bottom right corner of the picture.
If you rotate the picture so North is pointing straight up, you get a completely different perspective. I believe Fido has got Paleto in the right spot, or at least close enough.

By the way. I've being reading this thread for a few months now. Helps pass the time until Sept 17.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread & to the construction of the various maps. They all look great. A few new screenshots would help right about now.

Yep, I don't disagree with Fido, I was just doing that other member a favour since I already had the images from before.

That's cool mate. Didn't mean to imply anything about your views.
I just quoted your post because it had the whole conversation & the picture links all in one place.
Cheers.

Hey guys, not sure that this has been pointed out but you know that house in trailer that we thought was Michael's. I think its the same one as the house we can see in the vine wood hills photo viewer. However in that screenshot we can see Franklin on the balcony. This could suggest that this is a purchasable confused.gif property.

ok, I think I remember that IGN said, Rockstar told them that this mountain would be Mt. Chiliad - the hoghest point (on foot) of Blaine County and Los Santos

and that's not the same mountain as the one shown in the gameplay video

Don`t trust IGN, they said parachute in V was a first for GTA tounge.gif

I've gone through and gotten the all of the mini-maps from the gameplay trailer and zipped them up. Some of them are during flying/driving and will require perspective changes. You can get the zip of all the screens below.

https://mega.co.nz/#!FcNUSQAC!GNilh...Hl2v9asan0puo5A

EDIT - If you would like the raw screens that those are extracted from as well, let me know.

Fido, you are missing a second peninsula southwest of Paleto, you can see it here. user posted image It is further than the sandy one and has 5 trees on it, also can be seen from the Bixby Bridge (when Trevor is evading cops in the gameplay trailer).

And yes Paleto is in the NW quadrant of the map, to all those who think Fido or Zombie Elvis' (which I feel should be on the front page as well) maps are putting it too far west.

Also, I think the scene with Franklin shooting a bunch of guys on a red building in the Gameplay video is in the NW also, from an initial examination, that is the S-NW part of Alamo Mountain (you also see some kind of construct in a possible location in the Zoomout locale).

US Bank tower is taller in V.

How did you come to that conclusion? Wishful thinking?

No, I just though it was accepted in this topic that buildings in the III era are not scaled accurately, whereas the ones in the HD era are.

There's no proof that the Bank Tower in V is higher, lower, or the same size as the one in SA.

Choco Taco...

If you would have experience in photography, you would know, that your picture comparison ( http://i.imgur.com/0LLP0vK.jpg )is more than silly, and very innacurate...
We cannot judge, how distant the mountain really is, because we do not know in wich condition the bank building shot was taken...

Just watch this, and you will know, how different the percepition of distance can be:

Vertigo Effect

Plus, it seems Chocotaco is implying that Mt Chiliad is the same height in both games here. Some of his comparisons are decent, but this makes no sense at all.

I see some folks are disappointed with the size? I have the opposite, looking at these maps and then the screenshots, the scale of everything is really impressive. Those are some grand vistas, just look at how tiny everything else is. I think a drive from the city out to the countryside is going to be long enough to feel like you're covering ground but too long so it gets boring. Most importantly it's going to feel fluid and have more logical transition from city to suburb to countryside.

The comparisons to SA are unfair. I think people are making it bigger than it actually was in hindsight. It was very condensed and they did some smart tricks with roads and mountain placement so it felt a lot bigger. It was an entirely different scale, almost toy like. Just look at how tiny the cities are.. 10-12 blocks across maybe? That wouldn't work now.

Exactly! icon14.gif

Also why x3.5 RDR map count only with the "playable area"? That's stupid as f**k. It still counts, without it map wouldn't look properly, so it must count as a whole map.
GTA V has different scale, everything has proper size. In SA whole map is highly compressed, 3 cities with different specific surroundings and couple of towns, but now Los Santos and Liberty City from IV alone are almost the size of that. What makes that map so big was small Draw Distance, specific weather conditions for each area ( now it can't be done with soo big Draw Distance ), differential terrain but on really small scale and story making you feel that you really away (that time when Tenpenny get you out of LS).
