To check/verify if these calculations are close to "correct", there are at least 2 options: 1 being the tennis scene (if there is a way to messure the tennis field size correctly), 2 being the golf scene with the "168/169 yards to pin" stats and the map in the lower left corner

There is, I did it in the size thread but didn't bother posting proof. There's a series of overhead shots where you can work out where the tennis court fits alongside the nearby roads. I get something close to the 'white lines' scale in your picture. The dotted grid squares on the blueprint were around 1400m.

I spent some time on the tennis court scale, and think I came up with a result that comfirms your scale. (although I have to admit I'm new to photoshop so it took me way longer than it should have).

when Franklin walks out of the shop, the camera zooms out. First it's just a couple of meter above his head (which I call level 0), then it goes to level 1, which shows the tennis courts clearly. It then goes to level 2, which shows more of the area, and vaguely shows the tennis courts. It switches one last time to level 3, but that level wasn't useful because it didn't show the tennis courts properly. My method was to measure the length in pixels of the tennis court in level 1 and compare it to reallife (also did the width and the area). I used this length per pixel to estimate a bigger distance on level 1, because this is easier to spot on the level 2 screen. By setting the same distance on level 2 and scaling the blueprint map to fit the level 2 screen, I made an estimate of a couple of distances on the blueprint map. The most important one is ofcourse the size of the dotted squares. The numbers and pictures are:

By using a (8:1) pixel:meter scale, the tennis court was approximately 23.78 m long. The width and area was also a match. I've used this value to calculate the blue line, which is approximately 130.5 meter.
Then I scaled level 2 to the blueprint map, as seen in the next picture. It doesn't fit perfectly, because it's not a 100% topdown view, but it's decent enough for an estimate. By using the estimate of 130.5 meter, I have a scale for the blueprint map. Using this scale, each dotted square is approximately 1350 x 1350 meter (0.839 x 0.839 mi), although I have noticed some deviation in the squares, as noted by other members. So yeah, again, by using a different object, the square size is about 1.35 x 1.35 km.

EDIT: nvm

Great find. This should help comparing the map size or estimating the whole map we got so far.

@iTz i Makez HD: I would say so yes. Just look at where the sun is going down. It has to be to the left on the image and right in front of the direction she is looking at.

So does R* not use a east->west sunrise->sunset?

Of course. But she is looking to the south-western part of the map so the sun is going down. She is overlooking the Lake from the northeastern part of the map.

@TillSMC: Both of you could be right. Los Santos is huge and reaches from the part "iTz i Makez HD" to yours.

Ok, I see now.

Looking through the gameplay again, I noticed a few things.

About the tennis courts, I decided to make a few images for the first time on here, but I think I may have screwed up the calculations based on not having used the Histogram in photoshop much.

Anyway, even if it's incorrect it will demonstrate the incredible scale of the game, and give some of the members who don't realise this an idea of what to expect.

user posted image

The scale of the game is huge, above you can see the tennis courts from Michael's perspective.

user posted image

In the first image above, we can see one tennis court highlighted, a standard LTA tennis court measures 23.77m long x 10.97m wide, which gives an area of 260m^2. Using this information I was able to do an estimation( of course it's not perfect) to work out that the area highlighted in red is about 62,448m^2.

user posted image

In the second image above, using the Histogram I was able to estimate using calculation that the area was 148,210m^2. I have also added in a red rectangle representing the playing area of one tennis court, and in lime green that highlights an estimation of all 8 tennis courts. The highlighting of the courts is simply estimated for illustration purposes in this picture, they were not used to calculate area.

user posted image

In the final image, I have highlighted the total area in green from the second image using landmarks and roads to draw the shape that represents image 2, I have also highlighted the area of all 8 tennis courts on the beach just below the second block that corresponds to its location.

I could use the the histogram to work out the whole area, but this has been done many times before and my numbers may not be as accurate. However it does show off the scale of the game really well.

I'm totally loving the work all you guys have done (no doubt with better accuracy than me), bring on the second gameplay video and 9/17.

Thanks biggrin.gif

I think alamo is on the left, bacause the map says to the left is north... this means the mountain far away is die eastern end of the map... i also think the road trevor is driving on leads into a highway because there are these big street signs you can see... these are more like highwaysize than normal street size.... if you know what i mean.....

1. The landing strip seems to be parallel to mt. alamo and alamo see

user posted image

2. To the right: windfarm. Mt alamo FAAAR away!

3. I guess they go through a 45 right turn when they pass the windwheels. Then they are somewhere known from a previous trailer.

4. We all know this one... satelit dishes to the right...

Now.... is it just me or doesn't this fit to well with the maps made yet?!

I just finished the histogram information of Los Santos by using my scale of the tennis court as stated on page 750. LS is 9.4 km^2, which is about the size of 5 dotted squares on the blueprint map (one square = 1.35 x 1.35 = 1.82 km^2), which is fair. The golf course is 0.108 km^2, which is about 10 hectare. Fido's map of the entire island is about 69 km^2 (26.5 square mi)

I had some issues with cache and ram when trying to calculate so many pixels, maybe that's what you're having? Try clicking on the tiny exclamation mark in the histogram box.

148210 m is NOT 92 square miles.. Please..
Its 0,05722 square miles...

Well .. at least according to my conversion tool..
But you must be a math genious, don't you?

Did you know, that 148210 square meters is not 148 square kilometers? No.. It's 0,14821 square kilometers.
