That would put the Alamo Sea in the east. That picture is still most likely looking north though. They probably just put the sun there to make the picture look better.

So, the new GTA Logic is you can manually MOVE the Sun into unrealistic directions? lol....

For once, I actually agree with something you posted. This picture is definitely strange given what we know so far.

Yeah that sun does look a lot like post processing. Good find.

It looks like they're manipulating where the sun is in that screen to make it look better? In these two screenshots it looks like the sun is in the proper placement, setting in the West.

I don't know which name is which, but that's not the mountain in the other pics. But both mountains can be seen from the top of the bank tower in the night time shot.

CVG are not reliable, it's not worth wasting time trying to make sense of what they're saying.

I remember bringing this up ages and ages ago. I believe the sun is added after the screenshot is taken by R*, just for the nicer visual effect.

EDIT: @zombie elvis
I think the mountain in that screen is Mt Josiah, which is NW of Los Santos and is visible off to the left in the US Bank screenshot, whereas Mt Chiliad is the one on the new plane screenshot, and it directly north of LS and central in the US Bank screenshot.

Bingo- I think the one showing the sun to the north just has it added there for aesthetic reasons.

Just a doubt: if the Salton Sea is so close to Los Santos, why would Trevor need an airplane to travel between the two places?

You are a troll, aren't you?
Read the pages before and you will see, if you don't believe him or the screens. There are people here in this thread who took more time than you for analysing each screen. And you are wrong.

I think the above is perfectly correct, although you should ignore the sun as it has been added by R* for the purposes of this screen. The sun goes East-South-West across the sky, or just East-West straight overhead in summer.

The developers can, yes.

From the way the lighting on the buildings looks, I think they moved the sun rather than photoshopping a sun where there wasn't one.

For some reason GTA 3 and Vice City had the sun going through the North of the sky, but I don't think that's happening here.

Not true. In Los Angeles the sun rises in the northeast and sets in the northwest during the summer. Not exactly northwest but around 30 degrees north of west. But yes Rockstar probably manipulated the sun for the screenshots.

Oh, I though that would be true for places in the southern hemisphere, but I've not been so I can't really say.

No it's true, in the summer in the northern hemisphere the sun rises and sets in the north half of the sky. Doesn't change much at the equator but gets more extreme the further north you go, with 24hr sunlight in the arctic.

Not that that's any use to us, I think it just went straight east to west in GTA IV.

Actually yes that is true, I live in the UK and I have noticed in summer that the sun does rise in the NE and sets in the NW, but during winter the sun definitely travels E-S-W, on the shortest day of the year at midday it is not far above the southern horizon. Anyway we are getting way off topic here, I think we can both agree that the sun was added or changed position by R* on that screenshot.

The game takes paces in a fictionalized version of California, in the northern hemisphere-- what you said would be true if the game was set in Australia.

Edit: just realized you said the sun rises/sets to the north in LA, which is completely false.

Some of the nighttime screens also have manipulated light giving more dramatic lighting, if anyone is curious.

Actually, I'm completely right. Here's a visualization from google earth. You can try it yourself if you don't believe me.

And I didn't say to the north, I said 30 degrees north of west during senset (or 30 north of east for sunrise)

But yeah we're getting off topic
