If you own both San Andreas and Far Cry 3, please do the following experiment

1. Stand at SW corner of Alhambra club, look north towards the NW corner of Alhambra club (I measure it as ~110m according to in game measuring system, what do you get?)

2. Now load up Far Cry 3, put down a waypoint and stand 110 metres away from that waypoint.

When you do this I promise that you will realize that not all games use the same scale.

Furthermore stand on top of the bank tower in San Andreas and compare with the bank tower screenshot for GTA V.

San Andreas does not use the same scale as Far Cry 3 or GTA V.

edit - 110m in FC3 is definitely more than 110m in SA, but unsure to what degree, whether 2x, 1.5x or 1.624x

That's like saying 1 meter on Mars doesn't equal 1 meter on Earth.

1 meter = 1 meter, in any game. Just because that's the one and only universal unit of measurement we have, it's directly derived from the size of the protagonist (~180 cm), and it doesn't magically vary. Maybe read this post once more?

Of course, your instruments may be wrong, some games may display incorrect distances, and varying rendering settings or field of vision can make the same distance appear wildly different. But again, finding a game where 1 meter is not 1 meter is like finding a planet where 1 meter is not 1 meter. If you think that's possible then you don't get the concept of a meter.

1 meter=1 meter in ANY GAME

the problem that there are variations from game to game:
how the developers adapt there measuring system to the game... means you run 100 meters in game, but the measuring system in the stats shows 120...

This is an illogical statement I see over and over. In-game units are based on real units. A kilometer has 1000 meters and the objects in the game are scaled to look a realistic size compared to an in-game meter. Measurements work the same as in real life.

I think Rockstar exaggerates the numbers of kilometers on his maps : 1km IRL = 1km in a Rockstar game + 15%
6km in GTA games = 5 km IRL

When I walk , my steps are 75 cm (I am not small, my height is nearly 1,90m).
but CJ , John Marston and Niko Belly walk forward 90 cm per step. It's too much. IRL, A lot of people would look stupid if they tried to do the same

Goddamn. Besides banning people who ask for fuel and traffic violations, this forum needs some kind of intelligence test for new members. Maybe ask them if a plane can take off from a moving treadmill. Half the internet got that wrong for weeks.

Cool shot !
We already knew that this building was in the game (observatory shot, confirmed by the blueprint map) but it is the first time we actually see it.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious, but some guys in the 'new screen in Gamer'Z' thread thought that is an airport tower.

Well I think that large industrial building is the 'company' building from Franklin's trailer.
It isn't 100% sure but to me, it fits with the blueprint map.

I'm replaying LA Noire at the moment and I took a little time out to drive the city last night. It took me 13 minutes to drive from the bottom right corner (LA River) to the top left corner (Hollywoodland sign / Hollywood Blvd). Overlooking the fact that the cars are all very slow, I think the drive time may be similar, and I think we're looking at a similarly large city area. But with more detail and more life.

Factor in the countryside and we're looking at a huge map overall.

Let's say Big Enough R* always knows a way to make the City how small it is to something with the vibe:

Off course I would love a big City but I just played Driver SF with a big real life format city but when you play it you really miss R* feeling like it was in RDR, LA-Noire and even in not Rockstar Games ACII and ACIII I think the vibe is much more important than map size...

On the other hand I really love to see the work on the maps here Thanks Guys, I'm following the thread from the beginning ;-) ... We only have to download all the maps and put them somewhere so we can look back when VI arrives ;-)

98% Possibility that this shot was taken at GTA version of the Ballona Creek end of the Marina del Rey bike path. The marina is just southwest of Vespucci Canals. You may google it up for additional images.

Lots of previews stated that you can easily get lost in the mountains, forests, etc. It's such that massive.

Reminds me of this scene from trailer #1 - Imagine being on top of this mountain - holy sh*t ....

Somewhere in the north mountain range, nobody is sure exactly.
