My guess is that Grapeseed is somewhere north of The Alamo Sea, but as you said we cant tell precisely yet. Do the mountains in the background of that pic resemble mountains seen in other screens?

They are closest to the view from the freeway in Trailer 2. North East side of the Alamo is where I've got it, if you look at the screen of Trevor by the lake, you can see a barn and a row of tall trees.

Wow that grapes red area gives me hope that there is much more to the map we haven't seen. Look how far those mountains are away that's gotta be near Alamo sea area.

I was expecting to see a map for the 500th page and you didn't disappoint we'll done guys keep it up.

So just to clarify: Mt. Zancudo = Mt Eliah and Mt. Alamo = Mt. Chiliad? Right?

I'll add roads, train tracks and other details tomorrow.

I believe we'll have more area to the North and to the east, and maybe behind Malibu Hills who knows ?
One thing that seems quite sure : the Alamo Sea looks to be at the very center of the map.

That's pretty much exactly the way I see it. Same layout. Same sizes. Same proportions.

I'm going to put up my final map a little later even though there's not much of a point. It's going to look like yours, except not as nice. tounge.gif

Fido & zombie elvis: great new maps!

Two details I disagree with though: In Fido's map, Mt. Pointy is even further to the east than in GTAKiwi's, while in fact it's the mountain that's visible just east of Vinewood Hill, when seen from the city. Not sure if the Alamo Sea has to be moved or rotated, but Mt. Pointy should definitely end up further west.

And in zombie elvis' model, I don't believe in the reservoir extending that far to the south. My theory is actually that this highway passes the mountains east of Los Santos and becomes this highway.

Hate to make you scream at your monitor but, no, SoCal does not have snow. That is, nothing like what the rest of the world considers snow. When you see those snowy mountain tops up close and personal, it looks more like frost. It's not like being in Connecticut or Minnesota and walking knee deep through a foot of thick snow... more like frost and powder sprinkled on the ground not even an inch thick (you can still see the mud and pine needles through it and it's actually kind of gross).

It has snowed in L.A. but it is so incredibly rare that my L.A. home has only been snowed on once in my 27 years living here... and the snow we got was incredibly thin and melted in hours. A snowy environment like we got in RDR would feel very inauthentic in a SoCal game, trust me.

Claiming "there's no snow in SoCal" is pretty funny as you're resident. I'm sure you know Big Bear in San Bernardino. Damn, there is even ski resorts.

Hmm I dunno, but this looks like snow to me.

54 Minutes drive from LA according to Google. Salton Sea is more than double the distance.

10,000 posts... congratulations everyone! Here are some pointless statistics wink.gif

In the chart, one pixel is one post. In the list, usernames are somewhat anonymized, so that it doesn't turn into too much of a contest, but one should still be able to figure them out. Of course, number of posts does not indicate quality... times quoted per post is probably more interesting.

Good point F4t4l1ty. The other big mountain should be hidden behind the dishes there.

Fido & zombie elvis: great new maps!

And in zombie elvis' model, I don't believe in the reservoir extending that far to the south. My theory is actually that this highway passes the mountains east of Los Santos and becomes this highway.

I based that on the fighter jet/chopper screenshot. I'm not sure what tall buildings are in that shot but I think there's city hall, and the water of the reservoir seems to extend south of there, assuming that's what it is. But I think I should leave the city details for Fido, all the streets and buildings get too confusing for me.

With regards to the mountains east of the city, I still think there's a lot more to them than just "one rim running from north to south". I'd say there are at least three separate ranges, see here.

But letīs hope Iīm wrong cool.gif

Population and land wise, San Diego is a bigger city than Las Vegas... San Diego is America's 8th largest city.

Which I acknowledged in another post. A lot of those resorts (e.g., Mountain High) use snow machines or fake snow fyi, even when there is real snowfall, which is generally light in SoCal. And no, it virtually never snows in the L.A. Basin, surrounding valleys, or anywhere sea level.

perhaps it really is a version of San Diego?

As much as I want San Diego, and as surprising as some buildings match up, I'm very sure there is no San Diego in the game.

The Long Beach skyline is more plausible, since it is part of the LA Metropolitan area.

The Los Angeles port is in Long Beach in real life... In all of the screens there are no TALL BUILDINGS near the port... So either this is another city (San Diego) or R* decided to add Long Beach in a completely new area.

Anybody know? I'm looking up Tudor style mansions in Los Angeles but can't find one like this.

These are directly next to each other, we can tell by the view of each mountain and hill. They're identical. So we know there are dishes at the entrance of sandyshores. Surely that helps us map this place now: user posted image

I agree with that although I haven't modelled it very well. I had that brown arrow as being water but it might not be.

Edit: ignore what I said about the airstrip, something's not right.

I would put my life savings on the fact they are hiding a snow environment at the most northern part of the map.

This is what I have though about as well (if anyone says anything about SoCal not having snow I'm going to scream at my monitor). But, if Chiliad is the tallest point in the game and it is not snow-capped, why would smaller mountains have snow on them?

I've been thinking the same thing... Chilliad will be snow covered and maybe based off of Big Bear? or Mammoth.

I think San Gabriel Mountains make the most sense
