Also, maybe someone wants to apply some mountain top voodoo here:

Better frame:

Obviously very different mountain ranges, but also clearly not that far away from each other.

See, and I thought by our current standards of "same mountain", the one on the right was a very good match.

Looking closer at the rigde right above Trevor's hair, I'm actually almost certain:

Of course, the argument I'm actually interested in -- and I think one could try to make it -- is the one about the mountain on the left:

Apologies. It's just that I was trying to say 4 different things: Ridge matches, highway exit matches, peak may match or not, sign matches.

Good spot, hopefully this could give us an approximate location for the wind farm for fido's map.

I'm just shocked at how close and compact all these images are to Los Santos. They don't see far away at all (though I know when driving in the city, it will seem like a good distance). They seem to transitions environments rather quickly in some locations and I hope it works smoothly. We do not see anything from outside of this limited area Rockstar has decided to share with us.

If I was OUPS, who is still trying to show, see here, that the three violet mountains in his images #1 and #3 are the same, then I would actually try very hard to make the case that in the two images below, the tiny blue and green arrows match.

This came to my mind because after looking closer, and for longer, at the second image below, I'm pretty sure I can make out the airfield, including the secondary runway (along the edge of the rotor blades). Once I can see the surface of the main runway, I'm much more willing to believe that what lies behind the three small mountains is water, and not just fog.

There must be many wind farms and highway exits in Southern California, but I agree, it's tempting.

Doesn't this shape look familiar? It doesn't match with the location of LS to the airstrip however neither does the location of the Liquor store near Salton Sea. Zoom out a bit and you will see it is close to the Salton Sea as well!

Ok guys, I think I'm ready to believe that OUPS is correct. The consequence would be that a lot of what we've seen is connected, north of the city, from (roughly) east to west: the dead guy in the water, the recreation area, the airstrip where Trevor takes off, the gas station, the Zancudo River, the big peak, the train bridge and the motocross scene.

Needless to say, I'd be just as happy to be proven wrong... wink.gif

Anyone can give opinion on this?

See here for 3:25/11:15, and here for 3:12.

Look at the way the radio telescopes are arranged at ~11:15.

If we were looking at them from the large freeway at ~3:20 then why is the arrangement so different?

Instead of just posting links to stuff I already read, why not explain why it is impossible for us to be on the other smaller freeway I suggested

Just because in the first three images of the post I linked to, the arrangement of highway overpass + transformer station + satellite dishes seem to be a perfect match.

After seeing the transformer it looks like my theory is out the window

But it would have been better if true because it would have made the whole scale of the map larger

As it is, the map is starting to look smaller and smaller after each discovery sad.gif

Does the overhead zoomed out shot give the impression of a map 3-3.5x as big as RDR or larger than SA, IV and RDR combined?

I can't see it yet, it does not even seem larger than SA by itself sad.gif

I guess if you're looking for things to be the way you want them to be, you're more likely to guess wrong.

The size of the map compared to RDR (or RDR+IV+SA) is confirmed, rather officially, so the reason the aerial view doesn't look like that is that it only shows a fraction.

To me, the map keeps getting bigger and bigger, actually. I still find it almost frightening to imagine that this is going to be the map for a game that (in terms of gameplay, in terms of what you do in it) is more or less like GTA IV.

Sadly companies have lied many times, In Battlefield 3 they said they would have the largest maps they have ever made but in the end it turned out to be false.

I'm more likely to believe a company that gives me an exact comparison to prior games, and exact percentages of land and water, than one who claims to have "the largest map". Other than that, I agree, companies lie, and if that's the case with Rockstar and the map size of GTA V, this thread is very likely the place where you'll read it first.

Until then: Offtopic

Id say that your first two pictures are perfectly right. The shape of the smaller mountains in the valley are perfectly matching from both directions. it would even make sense with the direction Trevor took off just before the flying scene. Great find.

Ok, to sum it up:

Grand Unified Theory of (Almost) Everything we've seen up north, so far

A) Very strong. Peak further left in both images helps.

B) Very strong. Many more details match, and fits with aerial view.

C) Strong. We know where Trevor is driving, and we'd *expect* a runway.

D) Very strong. Next to each other in real life.

E) Strong. The liquor store image has a peak where we'd expect it.

F) Very strong. Various people have pointed out various similarities (train track, shoreline, trees etc.)

G) Strong. Same tunnel, opposite ends. Again, the peak further right and up in the second image helps.

I wasn't sure about the three mountains as such, but the two points convinced me.

Big plus: If I) is correct, we'd expect J), and vice versa.

Wow awesome stuff. Do you have any explanation of what those "buildings" are to the left of Trevor when he's taking off in the plane? Someone needs to put together an updated map of all this.

And that river in the parachuting/dirtbiking shot. It seems like that it's just going off the edge of the map, far away from Los Santos. I wonder where it goes?

I'll also show you the one that is still worrying me (click for full size, two perspectives in one).

I guess most of you will see the same peak as I do. And I think it should be further to the left (west).

user posted image

user posted image

You can construct "north" by cutting from the top left of the VINEWOOD "W" through the antenna above. Also in this image.

My only hope is that I'm still very bad at estimating angles and distances.

Edited to add (for the sake of completeness):

Grand Unifiied Theory (continued)

K) Very strong. Prison, satellite dishes, runway, highway, etc. Might even show Griffith Observatory and Sierra Tower.

I'm sure you've seen it, but I didn't see anyone point it out (I went a few pages back, but not too far...).

Bridge and river:

user posted image

Also, I can't be sure that those signs C) are the same even though they seem to have the same white print. One looks taller from a distance at the airstrip and the one when he's pulling out of, what I think the sign says is recycling center, seems way closer to the ground close up. Just look at the motorcycles for scale of how far off the ground that sign is at the airstrip. Plus, it looks like he's pulling onto the over pass anyway (the cement truck helps in that scene as well).
