DYOM ISSUE #4

Welcome to yet another issue of the DYOM Magazine. Many events occur in the DYOM forums section. This is the one and only magazine that will bring you the news from all around DYOM. LeonCJ, or commonly known as LCJ, have finally made a topic for his epic storyline: Matthew Hegan's Path. Mati also released the Preview for his 'surprise mission pack: Think Twice. Many other mission packs were started but can't be listed. There are more news, so read on to find out more.

DYOM Mission Index
DYOM Mission Index is a topic made by Secronom President that basically gives link to the missions in an orderly manner. This thread was made on January 5, 2011 at 03:32 (GMT - 5:00 Hours) at the time when the 'Search' tool only worked for staff members and a few chosen ones among the normal members. Its goal is to unite all the missions into a single thread, yet there are only a few. The concept of this thread is simple; ask for your mission pack thread to be put in the list and it'll be done. A new version has recently been created, and the previous table have been cleared. So if you want to have your mission in the index, make sure you request for it by posting it in the topic. The request format is simple: Give your mission pack/ single mission name and the link to the topic/ mission and it will be added in the main post as soon as possible.

DYOM General Thread
DYOM General Thread is a topic created by Secronom President on Sunday, Jun 5 2011. The topic contains information on all the major/important information/threads you will find in the DYOM sub-forums. It contains important events, important topics and also the release versions of the Design Your Own Mission mod. Make sure that you read it to keep yourself up to date with the activities and events in the DYOM Subforums.

Interview with SatournFan
DYOM Magazine had an interview with SatournFan. Below you can find the questions asked and the answers given by SatournFan.
-When did you first start designing DYOM missions?
It first started in 2009, or 2010, I don't remember. I found some files on Russian site with [DYOM] written, so I tried to check it out. When I realized it's a program for designing your own mission, I was in awesome mood, so I began creating my missions.

-Why did you choose DYOM instead of other mission creator modifications?
Because I didn't and don't and maybe won't have any SCM experience, so this is the best choice for me.

-Is there any difference between the first five missions and the last five missions that you made?
For sure, man. My first missions were like sheesh, but then I improved (you see, my Last 5 missions are from LISD).

-What are the things that made you improve in your missions?
Fren's and some new plots. Friends made me improve, they, like DP, always said that I can create good missions. And plots... I wrote them in my note and they were like cool.

-Who, in your opinion, is the best and most creative DYOM designer?
That's the hard one. There's no best designer, like someone said once, everyone can be better anyone in any category. But still, I'll choose Mattatatta for quality, Jimmy_Leppard for creativity and leoncj for number.

-Which topic in the 'Mission or Support Forum' do you think is the most useful?
Missions: DYOM Vid Reviews/Support: DYOM Magazine

-Who do you think should have won the DYOM awards and was not mentioned? What category do you think they should of won?
Jimmy_Leppard: The most creative one

-What was your first published mission?
New Stories (really, it's a mission pack)

-What one of your mission-packs do you think was the best?
Life In San Diablo, no doubt.

-What do you think of all the new DYOM designers joining our small community in the last few weeks?
KaRzY6 - He's cool, though, he must learn English.
john12 - He's a kid, I don't like him.
abishai.kochara - He's kid too, though, he's not so bad as john 12.
AnDReJ98 - He's just stupid ignorant bastard who needs to learn English.
shiva s - Dunno much about him.

-Do you think the new members will improve our community?
Not all, but some...

-Any way the senior designers can help the newcomers?
Give 'em some advices, help 'em makin' missions. I can be one of those helpers biggrin.gif

-Do you have any other comments to say about the interview or any messages to the DYOM Community?
Interview: No
Community: Gimme some damn feedback biggrin.gif

Your opinion
this will be a simple question, to which you will give answers according to your personal opinion. The answers to the questions will be helpful in various ways. Your answers will be published in the next issue.

So here's the first question: How many objectives should a good mission have?

You can post your answers in the topic or sending a PM to any of the team member.

Note from the editor
I didn't add any mission walkthrough, review links or tutorials because I wanted to cover some important topics first. Hopefully, after this or the next issue I will be through with important topics and you will see those content. Special editions will also be released after some few more issues.

30-50 will do, if the mission is quality over quantity. If it's the combination of quality and quantity, 50-70 will do

@Alifjenius
I think it has to do with his internet problems. When he sends me a PM, sometimes they come in doubles with a difference of only one or two minutes in between them.

About that objective q.

Every member has his/her own visions on great looking mission, for me, 30 in normal, 50 is great. But, someone likes so f*ckin' long missions that they use 70 or even more. I never designed such long missions. So, my answer is 30-50.

For me it depends on the type of mission. If I am making a proper mission with a story and such, it is always more than 50, most of the time it's 70 - 80, even reached a 100 once. tounge.gif But if it's random missions, it can be as less as 10, because of no story, and mostly gameplay.
