Only two more weeks till the Rains of Castamere.

Can't believe they're skipping Sunday the 26th, that date was mentally scarred into my brain. RoC won't be airing til June now. But daaamn if it isn't going to be worth the wait.

(Book spoilers)

Is this the Red Wedding episode? I was under the impression that this part wouldn't be happening until next season. There will be shock and awe amongst viewers of the show who've not read the books.

Dude, they're on their way to the Twins right now. I think the episode synopsis for #9 is "Edmure meets his bride" and so forth. It's so totally happening during this hour... going to be horrifically awesome.

I hope they kill Robbs wife. She annoys me and I'm not sure why. As for Catelyn and Robb... I don't really care for them. The only Stark I ever liked was Arya.

In response to above posts, Oh sh*t, I hope someone records reactions to show only fans. This is the biggest moment in ASOIAF, so far. I think those fans will finally understand how big of a game changer we were talking about, before the season started.

I liked Robb but knew his cause was doomed. I also really admired Catlyn for being both a strong female character and nurturing maternal one (I do find it rather petty that she hates Jon though, and her releasing Jaime was f*cking madness that meant the end for Robb's cause). I've not seen much of Talisa, but that which I have scene does make me find her bloody annoying--Jeyne Westerling was just a sweet girl from the Westerlands, couldn't they have just put her in the series as in the book? She won't be there for long anyway.

My theory is that... book spoilers Instead of Jeyne Poole being used as the fake Arya, they're going to claim that Talisa or whatever her name is, as the rightful heir to Winterfell, being that every other Stark is either dead or missing. This happening of course after Sansa leaves King's Landing.

Maybe it's just a trivial thing but has osha's face aleways been so brown? I found it very distracting. Nobody else in the group is tanned and weathered from wandering in the woods, and I'm sure that just last episode her face was no darkere than bran's or hoder's, what's the deal?

Yeah I suppose that is pretty sensible actually, and it would make some sense as a reward for her mother's part in the Red Wedding. It'd also give some more scenes to the girl who plays Talisa. I can't help but feel that this would be too divergent from the book though.

There's a popular theory that Jeyne Westerling escaped with the Blackfish before Riverrun surrendered due to her possibly being pregnant. If this theory is true, I doubt they'd be able to kill her replacement off in the show.

That's the big problem with doing a show about a book series that isn't finished yet. The show might have glossed over seemingly minor details that turn out to be important later. I know GRRM has discussed the ending with the show's creators, but its still possible for things to get screwed up.

I'm more than willing to accept that the show and the books are two different entities, and enjoy them separately. More so lately, than last year when I was kind of more of a stickler for wanting the show match up with the books.

Now I'm more worried that they might write something from the show, say a minor character is definitively killed off (Syrio Forel for example), and my fear is that GRRM will then be afraid to want to bring back that character (god I hope so). In other words, I'm more afraid that the show will effect how Martin writes the final books. That's why I'd prefer him not to write anything for the show, and just maybe approve the scripts.

EDIT: as for Talisa I can completely see it all laid out. Talisa is captured at the Red Wedding. She is taken to Dreadfort, and imprisoned with Theon. Next season, they have some adventures, and the season after (or even after that) she marries Ramsey at Winterfell, and that's when her and Jeyne Poole's story becomes one. Or I can see what you said being possible, TEoS. Of course, that's up to GRRM in the end.

I'm also curious about if the show will show more of Lady Stoneheart in season four. Although I could see them keeping that bombshell secure until the end of the season, and showing more of her during season five.

I'd love to read the books someday after the show is finished.
just to bulk up on the backstory and history of the characters since there's not a lot of time to explore it in each episode.

I really enjoyed this weeks show.
my thoughts about Dog were confirmed too; he's a cool guy. most people in Westeros seem to assume he's a huge douche, but I always liked him for some reason and now I know why: he may be a murdering bastard, but he's an HONORABLE murdering bastard.

he had to explain to Arya how he helped Sansa and is not the kind of man who would beat or rape a girl.
and suddenly - for a moment there - it sounded like Arya had warmed up to him while they were riding together. very nice scene between the 2 of them. and the girl who plays Arya is seriously underrated. I really hope her character develops into an important person who has more screen time in the future.

GREAT scenes at the wedding too between Tyrion and Joeffrey and then Tyrion and Sansa later on.
priceless.

what are you talking about?

it seems like her magic is very real.
if she was just "using" it for sex, she wouldn't have summoned the ghost-monster-thing from her vagina that killed Renly, for instance.

I'm pretty sure that her power is legit, not just an excuse to get laid tounge2.gif

I think Daario is a political player. He got the chance to take the second sons for himself, got the chance to join the side he predicted as winning, and also got the chance to make a good impression on his new employer.

Sacking the city will be much more profitable than defending it IMO.

As for Jaime, I wonder how the new, improved Jaime is going to react to Cersei when they're reunited and how Cersei's going to react to Jaime. I mean she seems worse man, worse. She seems worse than she used to be. And I have a feeling he's not going to put up with it.

Great episode this week. I guess that's Rob, Joffrey and Greyjoy f*cked. I wonder what will become of Gendry now? Will he remain tied to the bed, and intensively farmed for his murder milk? Not a bad proposition I reckon, as I would gladly lose a limb just to spend 24 hours with Carice van Houten - who has to be one of the most perfectly beautiful women in the world right now

I feel like they were forcing it. They seem to be adding sex violence and swearing wherever possible even if it makes no sense. I don't wanna come across as a book purist as Elio and Linda take that sh*t way over board but if something isn't said or done in the books I find it odd when it's done in the show. Is c*nt said in the book. Yes. It's not whoever used every 3 seconds like an angry 14 year old. Which it was especially in the titan scenes. Also Robb dies next episode given the title name and the Red Wedding. So excited for that. His character always annoyed me. The actor who plays him is brilliant though. They might even kill Balon off next ep as well.

does it really bother you?
this is pretty standard fare when it comes to adult television. have you ever watched HBO before? it's par for the course.

also, I thought all this sex and swearing was accurate according to the books.
unless I'm thinking of a different book-to-show series, I thought I remember Game of Thrones readers talking about how dirty the books were; almost more than the show is. at least in the show they 'dress' certain characters up. in the books there are apparently many foul-mouthed characters who constantly whore and drink and cuss like a sailor.

In the book the sex is more descriptive, and explicit. If they accurately portrayed the sex from the books in the show, it would be hardcore porn. The chapters with Dany and Khal Drogo's sex scenes would make a sailor blush. Although the fact that she is 13 at the time would make it downright illegal. In the show of course they can't show Tyrion try to stick it in Sansa, but they make it up by show exclusive gratuitous sex and nudity.

The violence is pretty much on par for the books in my opinion.

They have added sex scenes that didn't exist in the book something like a dozen times now, purely to satisfy the frat boy audience.

Yes, it's adult TV. Yes, the amount of added tits and f*cking in the adaptation is still too much. It borders on comic book territory.

There's also the ever-present spectre of them cutting characters, cutting scenes, and changing scenes for no reason whatsoever, while they still find time within 45-50 minutes of TV for extraneous sex scenes that never occurred in the original story.

I'm fine with cutting judiciously because of the limitations of the format and budget. I am not fine with things being cut to make place for original scenes that add nothing, or changes because the showrunners thought it would be cool, not because practical concerns dictated it.

Honestly, all the sex and swearing bothers me a little bit. It doesn't offend me though. I'm not a moron. I just think it's stupid and it's pandering to the lowest common denominator. I feel like it's dumbing down the show. Like they're saying "Please don't stop watching our show. Here, have a sex scene or two".

extraneous sex scenes

are we even watching the same show?

there are entire episodes without any sex at all. maybe just some background nudity.
and when there is sex, most of the sex scenes don't last more than 60-90 seconds.

seems like you're going out of your way to complain.

Yeah, there is only one gratuitous sex scene in the series to me and that would be when Littlefinger told his backstory in the first season while Ros and the "foreign" whore were enjoying each other in the background.

The show definitely has more sex in it in some regards, because it adds more scenes, but they are still within the same character of the show and of life. People like/need/want/desire sex, more so in certain circumstances.

I'm not prude, but I do resent pointless sex being inserted into the show when we're having characters merged/dropped/delayed due to budgetary/time constraints. I'd agree with Ronmar that the most ridiculous one was the Littlefinger hooker coaching session from season 1, however Theon's almost-threesome is a close 2nd.

It's not a big deal, but every time a superfluous sex scene starts, I can't help but wonder what plot developments have been cut to make room for it.

Yeh it bothers me. I have watched HBO before - True Blood, Sopranos, The Wire etc.
Sex and swearing and violence don't bother me or make me uncomfortable, make no msitake. But as GTA Avanja said it does seem silly when it's put in for no reason and I do get a feeling that it is being put in for no reason. It doesn't really push the plot forward much and given how much they are cutting from the books it seems silly that they are still adding in a bunch of sex scenes that didn't originally occur.

'Blackwater' got crap viewing figures last year when it aired over memorial day weekend so they've skipped a week to avoid a repeat. Pretty sh*t, should be worth the wait though.

yeah it's because they assume that most people will be outdoors on Memorial Day weekend and not watching TV.
I know I was.

but they also wanted to have the world premier of Behind the Candelabra stand on its own.
it's that new Michael Douglas comeback film where he plays Liberace. it's an HBO production so they didn't want GoT to interfere, or vise versa.
