@man dragon, I can see where you're coming from. In ADWD Dany's story is kind of boring. But I trust the producers of the show to punch those scenes up, like they did with her in Qarth. I really hope there's a few scenes with Barristan training his knights in Meereen. But you got to admit the fighting pit scene is probably one of the best action scenes in the books. Well worth reading through the boring stuff to get to.

That was a good scene, you're right. I just find that most of the characters with her seem to echo my sentiment. For example when she spurns Quentyn for Hizdahr. The f*ck is wrong with her? She could combine her army with one of the most powerful Houses in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and she doesn't because he's not "comely." The thing is, everyone wants to see Dany get to Westeros because that's been her goal from the very beginning, she's had chances to go and she hasn't taken them. Why? I find her to be a spoiled little girl above all else and a terrible ruler to boot. At this point, I wouldn't even be surprised if she goes insane and becomes a shadow of her father, turning into the Mad Queen, obsessed with power and revenge.

Jon on the other hand, is up in the North doing everything he can to protect the Kingdoms from impending doom. He wants to hold no lands or win no glory, as per his vows - he just wants to do what's right. Even though he has no "f*ck yes!" moments like the Dracarys scene, he's still a far better character in my mind.

Don't get me started on Tyrion...

So you don't like Tyrion?

Oh, and I think Jon's "f*ck yes!" moment is when he's appointed lord commander.

What about when Jon says "Edd fetch me a block" and beheads Janos Slynt? Also the stand at the wall against the wildlings at the end of ASoS was good too.

Great great great episode. The last scene was brilliant,
How far away is she from King's Landing?

Joffrey better watch out.

The whole Night's Watch stuff, got really messy !  I really thought Sam was going to call him a bastard, but then the random dude did. I guess in the books there was a lot more build up to this whole scene?

The bald eunuch guy, Vaesaerys has some great lines. What did he say about Little Finger, if it meant the whole world burning, he'd want to be King of the ashes'

She's very far away. And the distance is magnified because now she has an army. Imagine crossing Asia, then an ocean, all on foot, then by sailboat, and oh yeah, you need to feed an army the whole time and find a way to get an army across the ocean in medieval times.

Thanks for the answer Darth.

Theon is being tortured and that whole escape ploy was I think just to give him a little hope, for it to only be crushed.

I told you not to get me started on Tyrion, dammit. Let me declare: I f*cking love Tyrion. He's great, everyone knows it. But does he stay great? During a Dance With Dragons, he literally whines and moans the entire time about anything to anyone who is willing to listen. He's always complained a lot, though it was no different to Jon complaining about being a bastard or Arya complaining about not being the pretty one, until about ASoS. After Blackwater when he almost dies, he slowly begins to wallow himself away. After murdering Shae and Tywin, he never stops. I'll also say that I think he was written this way on purpose and that it won't be like this forever, someone just needs to come along and slap him out of it, maybe Rhaegal or Viserion would do the trick.

As for Jon's BAMF moments: there are a few sure; When Donal tells him he has the wall, and Maester Aemen urges him to lead. Of course, "Edd, fetch me a block" is great too. My personal favourite Jon moment is "I have my swords, Jon thought, and we're coming for you Bastard." But none of these moments compare to Dracarys, and that was my point all along. Jon has always had great moments. Dany really only has one or two.

This was another great episode. Really liked how they did the bathtub scene with Jamie and Brienne. Very true to the books, and Nikolaj Coster Waldau was pretty damn awesome.

Very good episode. Enjoyed everything to be honest. Ygritte and Jon in the cave was good but it lacked the relationship building that happened in the books. Jaime killed it again as awell as the other Lannisters. I actually enjoyed a Robb scene this week. In the past episodes his parts were lacking but this week it got back on track.

Not much really seemed to happen this week, seems like they're doing a lot of scene-sitting. Magic seems to have gone from being non-existent in the world to near omnipresent.

Agree 100%. Ygritte kind of just out of nowhere jumps his bones. In the book it was more of a prolonged thing, where she vouches for him, basically telling Mance that if he's still allied with the Night's Watch, it's her head, and (if I remember correctly) other wildlings are questioning his allegiance much more, so it's a much bigger deal that she does that. And you kind of get more of the story between them, because of Jon's inner dialog, which of course isn't in the show.

In the book the cave scene actually made me do an Annie and Shirley from community like, "Aww". Just because it reminds me of the ASOIAF version of a couple of crazy high school kids falling in love for the first time.

Jaime and Brienne in the hot tub was pretty spot on with the book. And that's a good thing. That's one of those scenes that peels back a layer of Jaime, that made me change my opinion of him.

I don't know if it's because I know what's going to happen, but the Show is making it more apparent about what is going to go down with Robb.

I loved the hot-tub scene, but Jaimie was borderline whispering and raspy. Too much important informations being imparted for that kind of delivery. I'd call that a rare misstep by the team on that one.

I've not seen much of S3, but I definitely got a vibe like this reading the book for the second time. The constant rain leading to the twins, the fact that Ghost was not at Robb's side and general unease created an incredibly foreboding atmosphere.

Man Dragon: Yeah I see your points concerning Tyrion. To be honest though, I really can't blame him bitching and moaning for all the injustice done to him. I agree he'll be more of himself again when/if he meets Danaerys and her dragons.

Was it just me?

But when Stannis' daughter starting telling the story to Davos, it seemed at first like the following scene was a recreation of the story she was telling about the past kings....I was pretty disappointed when it turned out to be the unsullied and Baristan and Jorah bitching to eachother.

Is it the same in the book, ie. are they clashing?

Anyone else watch the Westeros.org / Elio videos on youtube?

really?
seemed like a pretty important week to me.

between Dog and Beric, the Red priest, Tyrion and Sansa, Cersei and daddy Lannister, Jamie's admission to Brien, etc.
I also payed more attention to the intro this week; where they do a fly-over of the world map of Westeros.

you know it's the first time I realized JUST HOW FAR Dany and her slave army has to travel.
like holy sh*t. I hope she gets to use some clever magic soon to speed things up. it looks like she has THOUSANDS of miles to go before she even reaches the ocean!
and then they still gotta' cross the ocean. with all those men. and no boats. what a logistical nightmare.

and how is she feeding all these mouths as they trek through the desert??
I'll stop asking questions now lol.gif

In the books the unsullied are on drugs / magic potion. I think they're leaving that out.

Also the HBO website has a good map to check out the distance and stuff, yep it's damn far, the show could allude to this a little more.

When I saw this scene though, I chuckled:

Care to explain why you don't like this, are the show writers shooting themselves in the foot, by straying too far from the novels?

Paul Kaye is doing a brilliant job as Thyros of Mir, I assume you americans know of him playing Denis Penis? If not, youtube wink.gif

It definitely helps given that Stannis never besieged Storms End in the show, thus he never cam across Edric Storm (?). I am curious how they will handle the situation with Gendry.

The way Jamie and Brienne bonded in a nonsexual way is far more interesting than the cute-girl-meets-cute-guy-ends-up-making-out-in-a-cave romance of Jon and Ygritte.

And I don't really get what Robb's on about? Is he trying to overthrow Joffrey or something?

In the book, Jon and Ygritte's romance is more gradual. There's more of an explanation of how it's a wildling thing.

As for Robb. He wants two things. He doesn't want all of the Seven Kingdoms (all of Joffrey's domain), he just wants the North. And he'd probably also want to have a true heir to the throne take the place of Joff, Stannis probably.

And they just dropped Ros, like a hot potato. I figured she'd either just fade away or be killed off. Although, I really enjoyed the scenes where she showed her nethers.

I dunno about anybody else but I'm already pretty sick of Theon and his sidestory.

it was interesting during the first 2 episodes of the season.
after the first "gotcha" (when he thought he was escaping, only to be led back to the dungeon) it's gotten old pretty fast, and I tend to just groan whenever a Theon scene comes on now. it's like, ok, we get it. he's being tortured. the guy torturing him is a manipulative dick. we got the message.

here; this is a summary of every single scene with Theon in season 3:

user posted image

it's really boring.
I mean there better be a really good twist or point to all of this. Theon better turn out to have some extremely important role to play as a result of this tedious crap or it's gonna' feel like a huge waste of time. I actually went to fast-forward through his scene this week. I already knew nothing was going to happen.

oh look, some pretty girls are gonna' pretend that he's gonna' get laid, then just before he gets laid, the crazy guy is gonna' show up and cut off his dick or something.
oh look, I'm right of course. yawn.

Same here, it's different in the books I've heard too.

I think they must make sure they include tits in each episode somewhere, so they did that whole scene, it was stretched too far, and I'd rather get a bit more coverage of the other stories.

That said I liked how Jamie turned back, and the scene with the dragons, she looked hot but she's also acting really well !

In the books you dont hear anything about him past the 2nd book (Clash of Kings) until the 5th ( a Dance with dragons). I don't know why they're showing all this. It happene laright but its better to focus on more important things.

Probably so they could give Alfie Allen something to do for a few years. Which is fair enough, he was f*cking superb in season 2, but I wish they had handled it better.

Having said that, there are a ton of clues as to who his captor is. Why he is doing it... well, even as a book reader I can't answer that one tounge.gif

Still torture porn only works if it's clever and I can't say it has been too great, to be honest. I think Iwan Rheon is making the best of a poor situation, he'll be great once we can drop the "mystery" pretence.

Robb is only mildly concerned with matters of succession. What he truly wants besides Northern independence is justice for his father's murder.

I don't mind the Theon scenes, but I do sorta resent the fact that viewers of the show who haven't read the book get to instantly find out what happened to him after the sack of Winterfell. Also not a fan of how Ramsay Bolton was cast as a fairly attractive individual, when in the books it clearly makes the point that he is hideous. I just don't want a total sociopath torture fanatic to be woobified by the more pathetic members of the fan base.

Only two more weeks till the Rains of Castamere.

Yeah, I guess you're right about Robb's need for revenge.

As for Theon, this show isn't known for flashbacks. And telling what happens to Theon in the current time of the show, is needed to explain what he turns into in later seasons. BOOK SPOILER: The shock of Theon being an arrogant headstrong fighter, into a weak minded frail bodied servant to Ramsey without this part of his story wouldn't work well on TV. You need to see Theon getting tortured physically and mentally for the full impact.

Is this the Red Wedding episode? I was under the impression that this part wouldn't be happening until next season. There will be shock and awe amongst viewers of the show who've not read the books.
