It's Frostbite 2 that has me excited for this, especially as the trailer seemed to suggest destruction.

It's so typical that it's those two companies. All they ever give a sh*t about is money. Although I got to say that I prefer EA over Activision.

It’s called The Run. An illicit, high-stakes race across the country. The only way to get your life back is to be the first from San Francisco to New York. No speed limits. No rules. No allies. All you have are your driving skills and sheer determination as you battle hundreds of the world’s most notorious drivers on the country’s most dangerous roads. In Need for Speed The Run, you’ll weave through dense urban centers, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds, all the while evading a relentless police force prepared – and willing – to use lethal force to take you down.

Isn't that the case with many gaming companies these days? I'd mention a certain case, but would probably result in an angry mob chasing me out of the topic for bringing a certain game up, lol.

Yeah but those two are definitely worst. They are being run by a bunch of corporate guys who likes to milk franchises instead of coming up with something original. That being said, I still think the upcoming NFS will be a good game. Like I said, Activision is worst.

Yes, because your comment about Activision was so inspiring. It really encouraged discussion. rolleyes.gif

There will be discussion when there is more information.

The Frostbite 2 game engine sounds very promising. Hell, even Frostbite 1.5 made Battlefield: Bad Company 2 look amazing! Now, Frostbite 2 is making Battlefield 3 and this game look completely awe inspiring. This game will definitely deliver on graphics, and I hope it can do the same with in every other category.

This game sounds amazing. The idea behind is cool and I think it will be interesting to see how they cover some of the gameplay. I wonder how big Chicago is. From the video there seems to be quite a few roads but the only let down is the bright orange arrows to point you in the right direction. I think I might prefer a GPS mapping system than the big bright arrows. Doesn't bother me that much though.

I wonder what cars we'll have. Hopefully they're not all American muscle and we see some Lambo's or BMW's.

IS there going to be multiplayer? Imagine for big events you can race with up to 10 players in race from New York to San Fran.

Too many quick time events on the foot. Why not just make those into simple cutscenes? No one cares for QTE's it's annoying at best!

I doubt it will be a big part. The real stars of the game will be the cars. If the cutscenes help add a bit of narrative to the game and you have the illusion you can control some of the action somewhat then I'm OK with it.

I just hope there's not too much of it and they are focussing on this at the start because they don't want to reveal too much of the game but only something that's kind of gimmicky and doesn't take a front seat in the game.

I hate it how they implement so many quicktime events/cutscenes during racing. I understand NFS was meant to be over the top and they're taking it to a whole new level, but seriously.

I liked the on foot gameplay though.

You know what's less than 10%? 9%
And that's too much for a racing game.

You enjoy driving from point A to point B with no story?

If the alternative is leaping from buildings and punching cops in between having my car blown up every 30 seconds, then yeah.

Racing game.

I don't really play racing games. But when I do, I play them for racing. I still think Underground 2 is the best racing game ever made. And it didn't need a story to be that, just a car.

It's a racing game. A racing game. Most people buy racing games for the racing. Do Forza and Gran Turismo have a story? No they don't, yet they sell extremely well and get good scores from players and critics.

EA have revealed 5 cars so far,
*Audi R8
*BMW E92 M3 GTS
*Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake
*McLaren MP4-12C
*Porsche 993 (911) GT2

I wish they will include a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 for the first time in a game.

I've always thought that this game would be like Bullrun or The Cannonball Run where you could just choose one car from the start and race your way through an open world United States from point A to B, but I guess I was wrong... confused.gif

I'll keep an eye out for this though, after skipping Undercover, Hot Pursuit, the Shift series, I might get this one.

Guys, how do you know there is too many quicktime events. OK, some of you will say 1 is too many but you do realise that the main purpose of that trailer was to show you something new (quicktime events). Coming up to the release they will show you racing and more environments.

@GTAvanja/GTA Dude: Really. What about GTA? Do you only play that game for robbing cars. Did you not go in to the casinos outside of a mission in S.A. to put some money on the tables. Why would you, it's shooting game. tounge.gif

I don't car much for quicktime events but you can see what they're trying to do here.

They want to implement a story, yes a story in a racing game. In order to do so, they will need to show some cutscenes outside of a car on foot. So you don't feel left out of the action they allow you to feel you have some measurement of control during the cutscenes.

You guys shouldn't be worrying about the quicktime events because that's the story part. You should be more concerned as to whether the story is good.

Completely agree with everything you said.

I'm not aware of a driving game with a good story... or any game at all, for that matter. At least they're trying something different. I think I like the idea of breaking up the racing with some dialogue. Quicktime events or not, it's still a progression in the story. I imagine they just decided it would better to include the player in the clips rather than not at all.

Just to clarify, is it ONLY quicktime events where you can control the guy? Or can you get out of the car and run around whenever you feel like it?

I think more than anything is people purchasing the game (that don't follow the games before the release and just choose games from the store) don't know what to expect from a 'Need For Speed' title anymore. I know they've got three different developers now, but I really think they need to drop the Need For Speed title and label them differently. Even people in the thread try and define what a NFS title is ("a game without quicktime events") when in its current state, NFS is not defined at all.

Not only is that a bad joke, it's already been used.

Earlier Need for Speeds have had a story. Not a good one, but still. I don't see what they can achieve by adding quick time foot events. Something like where you could choose your path from multiple options to reach your destination would've been a much better solution.

Remix, I'm glad you agree. As far as I know it's the only way you can control the player - quicktime events.

People are focussing on that aspect a little too much. They released that trailer deliberately focussing on that feature as it's new to the series (it's either quicktime events or make a completely on-foot like Driver did) and people will debate whether they like it or not. Either that or they just show you cutscenes and not let you control it. Then they will focus on cars next and the driving etc. That's mostly what you'll see and people will buy it and I'm sure when they realise that there's no quicktime events 'every 30 seconds' they might actually enjoy the story. Might!

Hopefully, GTAvanja's mind will be blown when they've fused a story in with a racing game! tounge.gif

People seem to have this notion that they put quicktime events in for the sake of it but you can be sure that they wanted a story first and to give the player the satisfaction of still playing they made those cutscenes quick time events.

Anyway, enough of that crap.

@Carter.Slade: Can't wait to try out the Lambo Aventador and Porsche. I just hope the driving is similar to that of the last Hot Pursuit!

Watched the E3 coverage live, as in when E3 was going on, and I wasn't too impressed, but now, taking another look at the E3 footage ThePinkFloydSound posted, I like it icon14.gif

While watching it for the first time, I was looking at the scripted running and was like, "meh", but it could be really adrenaline-ish and action-packed and actually work out in the end, the only thing I was kinda disappointed with was what the driving looked like - EA should go towards a more realistic approach instead of sticking to the 400 mp/h-arcade-thing, but you can't really know how it's gonna work until playing the game, so I stay interested. Knowing EA, they'll probably even put out a demo to be waiting for.

This seems like the most interesting NFS since Carbon or Most Wanted.
