since i can run the game 20-25fps with minimal stuttering at a mid-end pc.. and all settings are set to lowest except for shadows which is set to high and reflection resolution to medium.. because i'm bored.. i thought maybe i should share a few tweaks that i did to achieve decent performance. well atleast for me..

1) do a clean install of gta iv (just in case you're using the latest patch skip)
2) install patch 1.0.4.0
3) put these in commandline.txt

-memrestrict xxxxxx (resource usage * 1024 * 1024)
-minspecaudio
-disableimposters
-noprecache
-safemode(optional)
-reserve 0
-width xxx
-height xxx
-fullscreen

4)make the game moddable or use xliveless
5)open timecyc.dat can be found at Grand Theft Auto IV\pc\data\
6)locate farclp and change all values to 750 (default is 1500) then save
7)next open visualSettings.dat can be found at Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data
8)find rain.NumberParticles and replace the default value to 1024 or desired value
9)find rain.ped.lod.distance.high and replace the default value to 10.00 or desired value
10)find pedincar.lod.distance.high and replace the default value to 5.00 or desired value
11)find car.lod.distance.high and replace the default value to 12.00 or desired value
12)find car.lod.distance.low and replace the default value to 50.00 or desired value
13)find misc.BloomIntensityClamp.HD and set the values to 0 or desired value
14)find misc.BloomIntensityClamp.SD and set the values to 0 or desired value
15)SAVE
16)Run the game and see how it performs..

20-25fps when i'm not doing anything, goes down to 15-19fps in some areas or in heavy actions.. but without the shadows and reflections sometimes i reach 30fps..

I get like 10-35 fps over all with lag spikes here and there on my pc... Everything on lowest at 800x600 windowed. Not many tweaks for IV besides commandline.

i think 800x600 windowed puts more strain on your GPU.. setting it to fullscreen will give you more performance and stable framerate.. and use memrestrict command..

Already did but patch 6-7 basically killed the performance. Im back at patch 4 now as for windowed mode plays better in windowed mode for some reason...

try setting ur resolution through commandline

-width 800
-height 600
-fullscreen

i set mine to 1024x768 and i get almost the same performance as 800x600 resolution

I know and also you're right about putting it on 1024x768 resolution bit more stable. Find it funny I can play it on medium textures on 1.0.0.0 and 1.0.5.0 when I was experimenting with the patches month ago. tounge.gif

I have a rig with a 9400GT video card and i3 processor and it can run GTA IV at 15-25 FPS and EFLC at 20-35 but with shadows off since the new shadows are resource-intensive.

try setting your ingame resolution same to the resolution of your desktop.. i've heard it's much more stable..

Already did I have it on 1024x768 but my true screen resolution is 1280x1024 but have it to 1024x768 for fps reasons in games I play... Also OCed my card abit see how that turns out for IV.

PC Specs:
Nvidia 8400 GS (256Mb) (Overclocked)
1GB of DDR2 RAM
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.40Ghz (Singlecore)
Windows Vista Basic 32-bit

Never tried those commands for 256 mb cards also game more smother since OCed my 8400 GS lowest was 11 fps with few lag spikes now. I'll be back see if those commands work. cool.gif

i suggest you use -memrestrict 188743680 for low textures.. but you could try the other values if u still notice stuttering..

also try the farclip tweak... it help with the performance.. even if your view distance is set to 0 you could still get much lower view distance with this tweak

but best way to get rid of stuttering or lagspikes is to upgrade your whole pc.. your pc barely meets the game's minimum requirements.. so if could upgrade your pc much better..
