Call of Juarez: The Cartel has been announced for PC and "next-gen consoles" - presumably PS3 and Xbox 360.

QUOTE
Today Ubisoft announced the development of Call of Juarez® The Cartel, the third game in the award-winning Call of Juarez series. Developed by Techland® for next-gen consoles and Windows® PC, Call of Juarez The Cartel will be available worldwide Summer 2011.
Call of Juarez The Cartel is set in present-day and brings the best elements of the Wild West to a new and modern setting. As a first person shooter with an immersive and mature story, players can expect to embark on a journey like no other – one that will take them from the heart of modern day Los Angeles, California to Juarez, Mexico.

“Call of Juarez The Cartel is an action-packed shooter game with a strong story, interesting characters and a wide variety of gameplay options,” said Caroline Stevens, EMEA Brand Director at Ubisoft. “The game will bring the best elements of the Wild West into modern times with a very gritty and relevant plot.”

That dude doesn't look very present-day.

If they're trying to deal with crime in Mexico today, this needs to be viciously gory, bloody and extreme.

presumably PS3 and Xbox 360.

Ya think? The 360 artwork kinda gave it away.

Not enough information to get me interested yet though.

Could be good potentially, particularly if reflect the present situation in Mexico pretty well. Then I'd definitely be interested. Otherwise I can see it just being a poorly ripped-off RDR imposed on the contemporary.

There was a big improvement from the first one to bound in blood, hope this one will keep the tradition.

It's no longer a western? f*ck that. I'm not interested.

EDIT: OK, I'm a little interested. But still, it's supposed to be a western.

I'm getting tired of this modern bullsh*t. It's almost like WW2 shooters some years back.

I think after RDR the devs got scared and decided to travel to another era to avoid comparison.

News, screens etc ..

Ain't that bad. A city with such landscape, similiar to GTA IV or Kane & Lynch 2 details as a open-world map if it will have, will be an interesting game. And I see some gangsters holding dual weapons. Maybe they will bring this option to the main characters too, uzzi and a beretta, how they did with the other 2 games.

Oh yeah, and the characters names are Ray, Kim & Eddie by following the first 3 pictures.
Yeap. I sure Techland has a good reason why thy choosed to put a similiar Ray in this new series.

It doesn't look bad. I wanted a cop FPS with street gangs and whatnot. I can't stand all those military shooters. This looks like it might just do OK. It looks fresh.

Wait so it looks like it's wild west yet it is based in the present day, on drug cartels in mexico? Because if thats the case it sounds sweet, they always needed to make a Cartel game.

Well, they changed the boxart where the style resembles a lot with the one from Bound In Blood. I don't know, from what I see and read, they still keep Call of Juarez style.

Details so far ...

QUOTE
Today Ubisoft announced product details for Call of Juarez®: The Cartel, set to launch Summer 2011. As the third game in the award-winning Call of Juarez series, Call of Juarez: The Cartel is being developed by Techland® for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Sony PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel keeps the unique themes of the Wild West intact while taking gamers on an action-packed adventure set in present day. As with past Call of Juarez games, Call of Juarez: The Cartel is from inception to execution, a Western shooter. Call of Juarez: The Cartel has a deep and gritty storyline that begins with a fictional drug cartel bombing a U.S. law enforcement agency, devastating the building and killing hundreds of people. The attack is a surprise, leading the U.S. to believe that cartel members had somehow infiltrated federal agencies. In a last-ditch effort, the U.S. puts together a special task force to hunt down and stop the drug cartel.

The task force consists of:
- Kim Evans, a gang-affiliated street kid-turned-FBI agent
- Eddie Guerra, a DEA agent with a chronic gambling habit
- Ben McCall, a brutal LAPD detective and descendant of Ray McCall from the original Call of Juarez

As the task force trio searches for the head of the cartel, they’re confronted with a variety of challenges that take them on a journey from Los Angeles, California, through Arizona and New Mexico to Juarez, Mexico. To complicate things further, Kim, Eddie and Ben each have their own personal challenges and demons to face, which makes for a complex and high-adrenaline gaming experience driven by a rich storyline evident throughout the Call of Juarez franchise.

Key features include:
- Three player online co-op with Kim Evans, Eddie Guerra and Ben McCall
- Gamers can play the entire campaign with each of the three characters; each character has his/her own unique story and ending
- Huge selection of weapons including pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles, anti-air weapons and more
- Wide variety of maps and missions including punitive raids, witness protection, undercover missions, and car chases

Additional information will be revealed soon, including details about multi-player and a twist on the three-player co-op storyline. For more information, to view the trailer, and to pre-order, please visit: www.callofjuarez.com and www.facebook.com/callofjuarez

I usually buy games for the multiplayer, but this game looks like it has a rich storyline. Might just have to get my hands on it.

Ehhh set in modern times? I played the first two CoJs for the landscape of the Wild West and they binned the idea now for some reason. Oh well I never played a game about a drug cartel before. yawn.gif

This disappointed me almost as much as Max Payne 3.

Sounds very interesting. I always liked BIB, but this was a pretty un-expected twist for a 3rd game. I must admit though I think another Wild West game would've started to grow stale. Especially with the release of RDR in the past year.

I hope they make it so you actually do feel like a cowboy in a modern world. I hope Ben has personality characteristics similar to Ray. Ray was the best out of himself, and Thomas IMO.
