I have a copy of GTA III. It was working fine, until today when I went to load my lone saved game, it loaded perfectly but when it got to the blue screen with the characters on it, it hanged, and stayed there. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, reinstalling the 1.1 patch, everything, yet no luck. How can I fix this?

I have no mods installed either.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1. Please note that this NEVER happened before.

Does the same happen if you start a new game? Your save game could be corrupted.

Delete the gta3.set file from the User Files folder and try again.
You can also try running the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode to see if it makes any difference.

Deleting the set file makes it work, however it goes back to the problem after I close and reopen the game. Is there any other way or will I have to make deleting the set file a daily routine to play GTA III?
