It's simple; what kind of music do you like? I am more of a hip hop fan, even though i like other forms of music.

This is cool, it's a bit weird we didn't have a topic like this before though.

Anyways, I voted for hip hop, unsurprisingly, didn't need half a second to decide.
It's dominant for me, but I like older soul, punk (which doesn't seem to be on the list) and lots of other genres like dubstep too.

Btw, it's rap, not hip hop. Hip hop's the culture.
Not that important tho'.

I went with Rock, yet almost chose Alternative. I love just about all of the genres listed, apart from Country and modern Pop/Rap.

Other. Even though rap is what mostly occupies my playlist, rock, and reggae are also great. And not to forget dubstep.

I still have a hard time believing people stick to and label themselves a fan of a single genre of music; it's so... pedantic.

Labeling yourself based on music taste is stupid and not listening to other forms of music because of said labeling is downright idiotic. [/rant]

I suppose if I were to narrow it down to a single genre right now it'd be either Indie-Electro-Pop, Trip-Hop or electronica but that's likely to change and branch out fairly soon.

Hip Hop. Techno would be my second choice.

I chose House/Techo/Dance/Electro because it's what i mainly listen to, and i've even started making myself. But i always listen to Alternative and lot's of Rap too, especially 2-3 years ago.

Tritto. It's a toss up between various forms of metal, blues, jazz, ambient/drone, and neo-folk.

Agreed.

Went with rock either way.

You missed out on punk btw, as said, and even then the list is rather confinded for a subject so broad as music.

I chose Metal because that's mainly what I listen to but I also enjoy Rock, Classic Rock, Dubstep, Electro, Old School Rap, New Wave (thank you Vice City) and even Classical music from time to time.

I wish to pleasure you

I also agree with meta187. I can't narrow it down like that.

What label do you give to video game songs arranged in a Rock format? Alright, so that's easy.

But what about extensive use of chiptunes in said songs? How about a guitar and orchestra in unision?

Sure, I can put 'Rap' since it's what I grew up with and such. But my tastes have branched off much farther than just that. Plus, some artists love to mix things up and really make it f*cking difficult for people like me to answer the eternal question of what I listen to

I also chose metal because that is the primary genre of music that I listen to, but I do also listen to Rock, Punk, Grunge, Alternative and bits and pieces of other genres too (and their subgenres). Infact, the only genre's of music I don't really listen to is Hip Hop or other forms of Electronic Music; i.e, Techno.

Edit: It looks like metal is leading! icon14.gif

Whoever makes these categories doesn't know much about music (not the OP, because I'm sure he copied the genres from some site). Punk, Metal, whatever other Rock genre>Rock music the same with House, Techno, whatever electronic genre>Electronic music. There's too many genres of Rock and Electronic music so it's pointless to put only a few of them. Anyway, I voted Electronica.

Musical genres and their prototypical forms aren't linear, that's true, but you could argue that there obvious general differences between the typical styles of the listed genres. There's a general consensus regarding these differences, even though you could nit pick and argue until the Eternal Dragon returns. There are plenty of metal bands that, even with the use of instruments typically found in rock, employ compositions more akin to Jazz, or Classical music. So for the sake of avoiding arguments, these are general "catch all" genre listings, so shaddap.

Not necessarily. It's still Hip Hop music, with Rap more specifically referring to vocals. Rapping. Yes the term Hip Hop (as you know) covers more than just Rap as there's instrumental stuff like scratching etc...

This is a classic Hip Hop song, I wouldn't exactly call it a Rap song cause there's not really any rapping in it.

Good Rap song (but of course it's Hip Hop too)...

LOL x 50. This is not a ''what is you favorite rock genre poll'' but a simple ''what's your favorite genre of music'' in general view. If he wanted to put all sub-genres of all general genres of music, that would be another thing. I listen to instrumental rock and neo classical metal, which are sub-genres of rock and metal in general. I like them both equaly so I decided to vote for ''rock'' genre this time cause it consists insturmental rock as a sub-genre in general view. I think that is what this poll is about. If there is no EXACT music sub-genre that you listen, vote for the one that consists that sub-genre in general.

It was a close call between "Alternative" and "Dance/Techno/House/Electro" but ultimately, I went with the latter. I just love to zone out and get lost in progressive house and electro.

It was incredibly hard to decide which one to vote for. On different days, and depending on my mood, my favourites will be different. I'm a huge fan of trance music in particular on most days, but today, for example, I don't want to do anything but listen to R&B and relax. On others, if I want to pump myself up for an event or a soccer match, I'll be listening to some good rock music or some really upbeat trance. I'm open-minded with music, so regardless of what my favourite is, I can pretty much listen to any genre, and I appreciate good music, regardless of the genre. icon14.gif

My vote now is alternative.
