Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

QUOTE
It’s official. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is real and will be shown at Spike’s Video Game Awards this Saturday.

Announced by Geoff Keighley on his Twitter account, Entertainment Weekly has the story. Taking place in the desert, Nathan Drake will follow the footsteps of Sir Francis Drake and T.E. Lawrence. The same man of “Lawrence of Arabia” fame, Drake’s Deception will follow the history of the man during his British exploring days. It will feature incredible animation of organic elements, such as water, sand, and fire. It came out of an inspiration for Naughty Dog to push themselves as hard as possible. Why? Naughty Dog’s co-president Evan Wells said “[Because] We’re a bunch of nerds.”

The game will feature new innovation elements to the series, rather than a new skin on Among Thieves. Several new things, including enhanced backward climbing and the ability to fight multiple baddies at once, will be introduced to the series. Online elements will definitely play a major role in the new game, so cooperative and competitive multiplayer will be a major focus for the game. Wells said, “We want to be in the big boys, with Halo and Call of Duty.”

Can't wait. This series is one of the few reasons I'm glad I own a PS3. smile.gif

Are they sure they want to be "in the big boys", rather than "in with the big boys", though...?

I instantly want this, even without any gameplay or a proper cinematic trailer, oh and also because this makes it look epic:

The reference to Lawrence of Arabia makes me want to get a PS3.

Exclusives be damned.

Drake looks extremely weird in those shots. Kind of like he got fat.

Well, just the one where he's looking into the distance.

I just have finished reading CVG's analysis of the short teaser, and I was surprised that it's going to set in a region that's about 2,000 km away from me, Rub' al Khali. It's one of the largest deserts in the world, located in Saudi Arabia.

It's a logical transition from a cold snowy region to a hot deserted region. In fact, even before these rumors came around the internet, I expected the franchise to move into the desert. I was almost sure that my expectation was true after a co-founder of Naughty Dog, Evan Wells, said in an interview that his team is playing Red Dead Redemption. I said to myself, why are they doing so? the idea that came to my mind, is that they want to see how the desert was re-created in games by other development teams so that they create Uncharted 3's setting in a way that it comes in a superior form or at least doesn't go under the benchmark that has been set by RDR in creating a visually stunning desert.

Another wondering, could there be some survival elements this time? maybe. It would fit into the setting very-well, for example, you may need not to stay under the sun's light for a long time otherwise Nathan's health and abilities will be affected, so you need to find shadows from time to time.

A final wondering, could it be more open this time in terms of the setting? maybe, especially after Evan Wells stated that they have been inspired by GTA III in creating the project. In fact, if there are survival elements, then it would most likely feature a more open setting, since most of the survival ideas can't fit into a game unless it's an open-world regardless of whether it's a large or a small world.

For those who are interested, this is CVG's analysis:

Also, to read about the lost city that Nathan is going to look for, Iram of the Pillars, see the link from Wikipedia:

On another subject, this finally kills the 'sure' words that have been said by multiple members who said that Sony's secret game is going to be Agent. Who would say that in the first place? tounge.gif

I'm extremely worried about that last sentence, though. Uncharted is one of the best single player games there is. Uncharted 2 was successful, but having any slightest bit of storyline suffer because of online play...

Wow, I should pick up this series sometime. Looks pretty epic.

I also love how Naughty Dog and Insomniac have 'matured' from the days of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro biggrin.gif
Sure, Uncharted is more popular than Resistance but whatever.

I hope this game will be rated M for MATURE. I just don't see why it should be anything else. 95% of action-adventure games nowadays are rated M.

Great to see sand introduced. The snow in the last game was an amazing introduction and I think sand will have the same impact.

I really hope one game in the series has an underwater level, perhaps scuba diving.

I'm getting flashbacks to Raiders of The Lost Ark.

I hope they don't focus on multiplayer too much.
